5-year-old ABQ BioPark elephant dies from virus

The BioPark news release points out, the other members of the zoo’s elephant herd are not in danger however, 19-month-old calf Jazmine is under close watch by zookeepers.

Checking the asianelephant.net database, I see that DAIZY's father is ALBERT (16) and JAZMINE's father is SAMSON (17).
Both bulls were born at African Lion Safari.

The zoo ought to stop being "devastated" (paragraph 8 on the kob.com link) and do the right thing - stop the breeding!

"They need to move and have stimulation. They need to be browsing, foraging, socialising. They need to have reason for movement." Pat Derby, PAWS, on elephants' needs.
