Devastating!

“We must fight against the spirit of unconscious cruelty with which we treat the animals. Animals suffer as much as we do. True humanity does not allow us to impose such sufferings on them. It is our duty to make the whole world recognize it. Until we extend our circle of compassion to all living things, humanity will not find peace.”

Devastating!

This is just the tip of this tragedy being reported. Tar Balls still being found on the beaches show they contain deadly bacteria, people are being told to avoid at all cost, so you can only imagine what it does to the sea life that cannot avoid it.
The Gulf is suppose to be several degrees warmer this year which increases the odds of hurricanes that stir up the Gulf and will dislodge these mats of oil just below the surface. I fear even decades later the Gulf and everything in it will still be sick, dying or dead. It fills me with a sense of hopelessness.

and it's not just the gulf. Scientist wrote that it would get into the jetstream and travel around the tip of Florida and into the Atlantic. How long will it be before people start seeing deformed marine life and water fowl there?

I grew up on the Texas Gulf Coast and my heart is breaking ...

I'd just like to add - in ALL of the literature on the spill, I have heard no one address the eventual cancer rates there will be 20 - 30 years from now, in the gulf, of all living things. More frightening yet, is that mutations are happening in sperm and ova now, that will result in rare and unusual cancers in the children of the next generation. I know that this barely addresses animals, but reading this book, by a highly credentialed and world-class epidemiologist, completely changed my outlook - and my actions towards the earth:
