RESCUE UPDATE We can report that our rescue team have arrived back safely from Tsavo with the orphaned calf. A female, she is aged about 12 months and from the Mgeno / Talio area. She is quite aggressive with her keepers at this time, not unmanageable though as she is quite small. Aggression is also a good sign, indicating they she has not given up her will to live. She will meet with the other Nursery shortly, which will help her to understand that she is not alone and that the orphanage is a safe haven. -------------------- "They need to move and have stimulation. RESCUE UPDATE We have named the elephant rescued yesterday, Talio, after the area she came from. We are pleased to report that she slept well in the night, next door to Tano who helped in calming her when they first met at 5pm yesterday. It was quite amazing to see how within minutes of meeting Tano, Talio calmed down significantly. https://www.facebook.com/thedswt#!/phot...&type=1&theater -------------------- "They need to move and have stimulation. We are heartbroken to report the sad loss of Talio, the young elephant we rescued on 13 July. She will be greatly missed by both her elephant and human family, especially Tano who spent lots of time comforted her. Rest in peace Talio. https://www.facebook.com/groups/TheElephant...&type=1&theater -------------------- "They need to move and have stimulation. They need to be browsing, foraging, socialising. Rest in Peace Sweet Baby ...
-------------------- “We must fight against the spirit of unconscious cruelty with which we treat the animals. Animals suffer as much as we do. True humanity does not allow us to impose such sufferings on them. It is our duty to make the whole world recognize it. Until we extend our circle of compassion to all living things, humanity will not find peace.”

Another sad loss....no mention of cause of death, illness, or perhaps grief from separation from mother...At least she had comfort from Tano, who now must find solace elsewhere... |
