...oh crap, that's right! Thor #3. God damn I'm...wow. Well, I do plan on getting the first collection of the new Thor series...it just sounds so good. Also the first time I'll ever be reading a Thor story arc.

I cannot state enough just how great Simonson was on Thor. His stories and art elevated both the character and his status in the MU to new heights. I have over half of his run with a few missing holes but the 3 TPBs (so far) that reprint his run are well worth getting even with the $24.99 tag.

Defalco/Frenz had a nice run on the title after Simonson and that team came the closest to recapturing the original spirt and energy of Lee/Kirby's work. After Heroes Reborn, I really liked Jurgens' run with the character but I hated he got bumped by Bend-ass for his Disassembled stuff.

I just read #5... and wow. I'm in love with this series. I need to go out and grab a copy of #'s 1&2. While I do find it hard to follow what they gods are saying and have to re-read it a few times... I do want to see Thor run up against the Frost Giants and the Midgard Serpent.... so freakin' badly I want to watch that fight. But even more than that

[spoiler!]
DOOM! HELLS YEAH!

They could have, but I just read the issue. I buy it at my local gas station. So it comes a few weeks later. Hey, I gotta support the comics at the gas station, around here a lot of kids only have the gas stations to introduce them to comics.

#6 - this is simply the best comic Marvel is producing right now in my o-pin-yun. Free (mostly) of the clutter of Civl War, JMS is returning Thor to his former Marvel brilliance.

A wonderful segment on how Asgardians mix with decent middle-class people in Oklahoma. From problems with plumbing to why you shouldn't use a gun in hunting to a man's haunting midnight encounter with a beautiful Asgardian goddess, it was all delightful. But when Thor questions Blake over the possiblity of releasing Odin, things get more serious. Thor's outlook is that they are finally free to discover their own fate and not to live out a fate preordained for them. A new lease on life requires new ways to look at that life and Thor fears the All-Father cannot or will not do just that, instead he fears Odin will lead their people back down the same dark destined roads. In the end though, Thor decides to release all the rest of the human-bounded Asgardians on Earth at the same time in a display of raw power that should give everyone on the planet a heavy pause.

Terrific.

#7 - First of a two-parter and it's all about father issues.

Thor starts to confront the issues over why, so far, he has made no attempt whatsoever to restore Odin. It may have to do with the gods' actually having to 'kill' their fathers in order to become their own men. Djark's art (sorry I can't spell his name right) is very good and suits this type of storyline very well. His Odin and Surtur are awesome-looking.

I herd something about Thor not wanting to find Odin because now that ragnorock has happened, the Gods are free to forge their own destiny, and that Odin may try to lead them back down the same path again instead of letting them change.
