Gland may not be interested in it, but for me I was highly looking forward to Thor #1 and have finally read my copy. It's off to a great start. smile.gif

The most intriguing aspect of it may be who exactly is Donald Blake? Is he simply a mortal disguise for a god or a mere mortal forever linked to a god through ancient spells and magic? I found the given reasoning (for the moment) behind his return as well as Thor's to be original to a degree. Blake now understands Thor and their relationship much better and it is he who 'saves' Thor. The only slight problem I had was some of the repeating motifs but I was willing to look past that.

Coipel's art is great. I have been a fan of his work ever since his LSH days and he certainly stepped up to the plate and delivered here. Terrific montages and wonderful full-page spreads highlighted this issue. Shoot, you can almost feel the lightning erupting from Mjolnir.

Best line - 'Wherever there is Thor, there is Asgard.'

Great beginning for the sole Marvel title I am now reading.

On a last note, somehow the copy in my box was the variant Turner cover issue. Eh, it's alright I guess.

So apparently Thor fights Iron Man in Thor #3 - I'm tempted to pick it up just to see Tony get his ass handed to him by someone other than the Hulk.

What intrigued me some was one of the montage shots in issue #1. It featured Sif, Beta Ray Bill, and Valkrie. I hope she appears in this title because I like the ideal of her character but I felt she was always wasted in her appearances in Defenders.

She might be in Thor, but she's also going to be in Ultimates 3.

Well I think technically the Ultimate universe is getting a second Valkyrie. There was one with the Defenders (the street group Pym joined in Ultimates 2).

I read a review of #1 in CBG that basically said the only thing to have happened was that Blake found Thor and rented a room in Oklahoma. A sort of decompression story-telling but unlike Bend-ass' type, I actually don't mind this.

For in issue #2, the only real thing to have happened was that Thor re-makes Asgard and boy, does he ever. Granted, it's hard to overshadow the grandeur that was Kirby's Asgard but this is a very close job of doing so. Keeping in line with previous statements from JMS about possible influences on the title and characters from Lord of the Rings, this Asgard, with it's dizzying heights of towers, walls, and minirets, could easily pass as a fortress city on Middle-Earth.

Of course, the whole scene with the police and the owner of said land who didn't like to see this new city suddenly pop up on it was great, especially how Thor paid the man for that land.

But still this may be type of decompressed story-telling, but I get the impression that this is more laid out like an epic or a movie, to impress upon the reader the depth and newness of what is occuring. Now, Thor is off to search for the other Asgardians and it'll be interesting to see in what form they are. Blake keeps mentioning how they are 'in the hearts and souls of mortals'. So Blake is tied to Thor so does that mean the other Asgardians are tied to mortal hosts as well? Don't know, but can't wait to see.

Oh...and here's to hoping he stomps Tony's ass into THE GROUND! smile.gif

I love the preview pictures of the new castle. Absolutely love it. This is a book I want to jump on board on.

Oh I'd imagine he will, although it would be interesting to see what would happen if the real Thor squared off against his clone...or Sentry.

Instead of showing someone open a door for eighteen panels, with this, I get more of an....epic feel to it. Like this is something important and worthwhile and thus shouldn't be rushed and squished into four pages. It works very well, at least for me.

I read the 8 page preview for #3 on newsarama. I was flat out impressed. Something I never expected to see was a hero directly adress the fact that superheroes could've stopped Hurricane Katrina.
