Pretty self-explanatory (threat titles help so much).

Thunderball - 10/10
Great, great Bond film. Up there with Goldfinger.

Top ten as of 9/9-9/11. Note that the figures are in millions; the figure in the paranthesis is the total gross of the film.

#1 - The Exorcism of Emily Rose - $30.05 ($30.0)

PG-13 horror is like censored porn. Unacceptable. But it brings in the teens. Films like this are modest successes because, I believe, teenage girls don't want to be grossed out by a film, but they'd like to be creeped out.

#2 - The 40-Year Old Virgin - $7.72 ($82.1)

Excellent. I just wish his Aquaman action figure was a more modern incarnation.

... Did I just type that? blink.gif

#3 - The Transporter 2 - $7.39 ($30.3)

I'm sure somebody will try to pin the less-than stellar performance of this film on the fact the main character is gay.

#4 - The Constant Gardener - $4.73 ($19.0)

Wouldn't that get boring after a while?

#5 - Red Eye - $4.47 ($51.2)

The villain's name is Jackson Rippner. 'Nuff said.

#6 - The Man - $4.07 ($4.07)

Sometimes, my faith in humanity is reaffirmed.

#7 - The Brothers Grimm - $3.34 ($33.3)

I predict an eventual director's cut that rock the casbah.

#8 - Wedding Crashers - $3.25 ($200.0)

I still haven't seen this. Damn. And I was telling people before it came out how I got a great vibe from it...

#9 - Four Brothers - $2.95 ($68.3)

John Singleton should direct more. I can't wait to see his Luke Cage film...

#10 - The March of the Penguins - $2.64 ($67.0)

The last several years have been great for documentaries. I dig it.

****************

Opening this weekend (in wide release) are:

Venom, generic horror with good atmosphere
Corpse Bride, Tim Burton's latest fantasy
Everything Is Illuminated, a drama I've yet to hear/read a bad word about
Lord of War, an arms dealer romp starring Nicholas Cage
Just Like Heaven, generic romantic comedy with Reese Witherspoon as a ghost

Plus Proof , Thumbsucker, and The Thing About My Folks in limited release.

So. Seen any good films lately?

Pulp Fiction - 10/10. Classic.

SLC Punk - 9/10. Great film, with some really swank introspection. I can honestly say this is one of the best "coming of age" films ever made, and it manages this without being obnoxious about it. And Matthew Lillard was able to turn in a performance that didn't make you want to gouge out his eyes with the nearest rusty object.

Freddy Got Fingered - N/A. As a film, this is a trainwreck. However, as a curiosity and an excuse to get drunk and get together with friends, it's perfect. Pure ridiculous mayhem. Tom Green really went the distance on his fifteenth minute.

If Aquaman were a more modern one, then he wouldn't have been able to sell it for so much.

That movie was like an allegory for my life.

You're right, I should've said "most" (or at least, most that go to trendy films).

I thought Transporter 2 opened to #1 last week. That's certainly more than I was expecting. And the fact that March of the Penguins is still in the top ten is beyond me (in a good way, mind you.)

You think that.

Oh, and The Transporter 2 did indeed open at #1. Thus it's current double-digit gross.
