After much rumour President Gerdan has issued the following statement at a press conference on Base 24:
'Both fresh troops and supplies have been dispatched to allied forces on the Planet Malevion. This is not an indication of the situation on the surface. Operations are running smoothly and we have everything under control. Troops are in good health and are optimistic. The situation is good. We continue to hold Sergie City against enemy forces.' When questioned about the death toll, Gerdan had this to say: 'Of course there have been many deaths, this is a war. And my sincere condolences to the families of those parties who have given their lives for freedom. But I assure you, current numbers circulating in the press are merely rumour and nothing more. There is no official death toll, so I cannot tell you figures, but I know that things are going smoothly. Even as I speak, medivacs are being dispatched to the areas most affected to avoid further loss of life.' When one journalist asked the President of the reports that Sergie city ws under siege, Gerdan handed over to his war minister, General Balaton. 'Sergie City is a prime northern base of operations on Malevion, and as such, is highly sought after by the enemy. But our troops have held them at bay. With the support of both our ground and air units, the city is unlikely to fall to the enemy.' Neither Gerdan nor his war minister would speak further. Both left among a barrage of questions, leaving Vice President Hollinger to take over. Hollinger denied claims that the situation was graver than the President had spoken. One newspaper claims that on of its reporters sent a message from outside Sergie, with news of a much harsher reality, and no sight of the end. These reports are unconfirmed. |
