Board rules & guidelines
*** Board Rules***

1) Member conduct and activity:

1A) Activity and participation:-

All members and staff are required to maintain a certain level of activity to ensure that any staff position, canon character and/or account remains available to them.
Any members and staff taking a holiday or leave of absence from their position will need to give prior notice. The Administrator(s) only require notice of absence for a specific period. Any personal/private issues need not be made public should you feel the need to keep them private - we assure you, we will understand.
The required level of member participation is two posts per week. Should you fall below this level without prior notice you risk losing any staff position and/or canon character.
The required level of activity is no more than two weeks inactivity. If you do not sign in to your account at least once every two weeks, the administrator(s) reserves the right to delete your account for the purpose of general board maintenance.
Members and staff returning after a period of absence where no notice was given are not automatically entitled to any staff position or character they once held.

1B) Member and staff conduct:-

The administrator(s) maintain and expect a minimum level of proper conduct from all members and staff. As a result, all members and staff are expected to maintain a civil and mature attitude towards one another regardless of position/job/rank within the community.
In the majority of cases a senior member of staff will issue a first and second offense warning before any other severe disciplinary action is taken. Disciplinary action may take any form from suspension, demotion, canon character confiscation to a permanent ban.
However, the administrator(s) reserve the right to ban any members and staff without issuing any warning in the most severe and unacceptable of cases.

1C) Disputes and Disagreements OOC:-

Any and all OOC (Out Of Character) disputes, heated discussions and arguments are to be kept off the boards entirely. This includes the OOC chat section.
If you and another member or member of staff have a disagreement over any matter please keep the matter private and attempt to resolve the issue via PM (Private Message).
Should you feel a senior member of staff is required to mediate a dispute to bring it to a quick and civil conclusion please contact a staff member who is senior to both parties. The scale of seniority is as follows:

Member > Global Moderator > Administrator

Should a senior member of staff decide a dispute between two parties is having a detrimental effect on any individual, the board or community as a whole, the administrator(s) reserve the right to step in to solve a dispute. If a conclusion cannot be reached the administrator(s) reserve the right to take disciplinary action against either or both parties. Disciplinary action may take any form from suspension, demotion, canon character confiscation to a permanent ban.

1D) Unacceptable behavior:-

There are certain kinds of behavior that fall well outside of the rules and far below the minimum level of civil conduct expected from all members of staff.
This includes racism, abuse, bullying, flaming and any other kind of serious discrimination. In any case where a member is found to be guilty of unacceptable behavior the offending party will be permanently banned from the boards.

2) Appeals and inquiries:

2A) Appealing disciplinary action:-

In any case where you feel a member of staff has not judged your case fairly you may appeal in writing to a board administrator via PM or email, stating both the circumstances under which disciplinary action was taken and your own argument as to why the action taken was unfair or disproportionate.
All appeals will be reviewed as soon as possible and judged by a committee of impartial staff where possible. On successful appeal any disciplinary action taken against you will be retracted and a full apology will be issued if appropriate.

2B) Queries regarding board rules & guidelines:-

Should you be unsure as to the specific meaning of any rules stated in the board rules and guidelines please feel free to contact and administrator (via PM or email) with your queries and they will be happy to address your concerns and clear up any discrepancies in the rules.

*** Board roleplay guidelines ***

3) RPG Guidelines:

Note that whilst these guidelines relate only to the RP environment itself and are not strictly rules, it is recommended that all members and staff follow them as closely as possible.
This allows a little leeway for beginners (new Roleplayers), members new to the site and creates a somewhat more relaxed and casual attitude towards the text RPG (Role Playing Game) this board is based upon.
However, those members who flaunt and ignore these guidelines and fail completely to conform to general standards in the RPG will have their membership reviewed.
Whilst this may sound harsh, it can involve as little as a cursory glance from an Administrator or Moderator at your posts, character and general performance/attitude in the RPG and a little advice.
These guidelines are here to make the RPG better for everyone, and show the standards you should uphold during your time here at Deep Six.
Members who refuse to improve their conduct within the RPG may find themselves asked to leave. Those who are simply struggling with a new concept will receive all of the help and support we can offer.

3A) No GodModding / GodRP'ing:-

GodModding and GodRP'ing refer to the practice of writing a character other than your own or assuming a level of control over an IC (In Character) situation that usually only a GM (Game Master) would posses.
This generally takes the form of writing another player's character responses/actions - for example:

Member 1
Mike walked over to Jenny and said "Hello"

Member 2
Jenny turned to mike and punched him in the face. Mike said "Ouch" as he hit the floor.

The first thing things wrong with this situation is the fact that Member 2 did not allow Member 1's character a chance to react - the blow might not have even landed due to Mike's speed and agility.
Secondly, Member 2 wrote in action and dialog for Member 1's character. Member 1's character 'Mike' might have not even fallen should the blow have landed, nor might he have said "Ouch".
The reaction of the other character, including whether the blow lands and how it affects them, are up to that characters player. The situation should have read:

Member 1
Mike walked over to Jenny and said "Hello"

Member 2
Jenny, still angry at mike for cheating on her, turned and threw a wild punch at Mike's face.

Member 1 (Decides on reaction)
Mike was expecting her to be angry, but not this much. He was unprepared for the blow and it took him on the cheek. Mike staggered slightly, before regaining his composure.
"What was that for?" He asked.

Very simple? You bet it is. Just be considerate and remember that your character is not all powerful, you are not God or the Game Master and your character is not all powerful and omnipotent.
Remember to take some hits now and then. Nobody likes to RP with somebody who thinks themselves invincible. Don't be afraid of playing a character with weaknesses - it's what makes characters interesting.

3B) There is a difference between IC and OOC

Remember the difference between In Character (IC) actions and Out Of Character actions. If you're going to make a comment as yourself (OOC) before you start writing In Character (IC) please make it clear with tags. For example:

Member 2
((OOC: Hah that was funny! This is almost as bad as EastEnders))

Jenny found tears welling up in her eyes as she glared at mike. She'd promised herself she wouldn't cry in front of him, but it was all so hard.
"You know damn well what it was for you ass!" She yelled as the tears started to flow.

Also, please remember that just because a character hates your character it doesn't mean their player OOC hates you as a person OOC. Don't let it cause disputes and if you must raise an issue with it send a nice, reasonable, calm and mature PM on the issue to the member concerned.

3C) Cursing in character

Please keep IC cursing to a minimum. We understand that your character might be a bad ass with a bad mouth, but not everyone wants to hear it - even IC. If you really must let your character curse himself blue please try and use obscure, genre appropriate curse words such as (the ever popular sci-fi curse word) frag - "Oh frag! There's fraggin' millions of 'em!" etc. Be creative.

3D) Adult themes:

Please keep all adult themes private. If your character feels he or she needs to get it on with another character then please PM an Administrator who will supply you with a password to the restricted, adult section of the boards.
Despite the fact that is generally intended to be a mature site with themes such as horror, violence and gore to be expected, we would like to keep it away from gratuitous crudity.
