I.C. Information

Name:
Kayleigh Marie Doyle (Kay for short)

Age:
26 years. Born around November 5th.

Gender:
Female

Nationality:
Kayleigh was born on her grandfather’s ship, the Calypso.

Occupation:
She's making some credits on the Nomad by serving as the bartender on board.
However, she learned emergency medicine from her mother, who was the ship’s doctor. As a necessity for survival, Kay became fairly proficient at hand-to hand combat and she is a very good shot with almost any weapon.

Personality:
Kayleigh is a bit rough around the edges. Stubborn, short tempered and understandably fond of her alcohol, not everyone can get along with her on a daily basis, but she's perfectly alright with that. If she likes you, you're in pretty good shape, let’s just say she's taken a blow for her loved ones more than once.

She dislikes a lot of things, such as: People touching her personal things, her weapons especially, arrogance (a.k.a. most authority figures.), and touchy-feely, overly emotional people. A hug does not make it all better.

On the other hand, Kay has an almost obsessive thirst for adventure. If it gets her adrenaline rushing, she's there. Space walking, piloting a shuttle through an asteroid field at top speed, chances are she's tried it. She also has a thing for tattoos. She has quite a few of her own, most of them not visible.

Politically, Kay is completely unconcerned, just so long as no one scrutinizes her too closely.

Physical Appearance:

Kayleigh is an average 5'7", has short blonde hair, and is on the slender side. She weighs in at 135lbs, and most all of it is muscle.

However, her colorful past has certainly left its marks. Her knuckles are latticed with scars from various nicks acquired when one participates in the occasional barroom fight, or doesn’t have time to hold on before their ship lurches suddenly. And her nose is a bit crooked, having set improperly when she broke it once upon a time.

More sinister is the scar that traces from behind her right ear and across her throat, and the round, spidery one in that softer space just below one's collarbone, near her left shoulder. A few other scars trace across her back, but she doesn’t show those ones.

Medical:
Kayleigh doesn't have full mobility in her left shoulder, consequence of catching a bit of shrapnel, or so she told the doctors. Other than that, Kayleigh’s medical history is fairly blank, just a few broken bones and stitches.

History:
Kayleigh was born on The Calypso, her grandfathers "cargo" vessel. In reality, her grandfather ran a lucrative smuggling business. Kayleigh grew up on the Calypso, performing whatever tasks needed to be done. It was definitely not the bet environment to raise a curious little girl in, but Kayleigh survived in one piece. She loved that ship, especially when she was old enough to really help the rest of the crew.
Her grandma was really her role model; you don’t get to meet too many gun-toting sixty-year old women, do you? Kayleigh’s grandma was the one who taught her how to shoot with whatever weapon she might come across, and how to mix a good drink.

When she was sixteen, her grandma died from lung cancer. It was devastating for Kayleigh, however it essentially left her in charge of the weapons systems on The Calypso. Sadly, her career as a smuggler was cut short when her grandpa sold The Calypso and retired after her father was killed in a violent encounter with another group of smugglers. By that time, Kayleigh was eighteen.

Much to her mother’s chagrin, Kayleigh went off on her own. She found herself in the military for two years before she was dishonorably discharged for insubordination and assaulting a superior officer.
After that, she drifted from ship to ship and colony to colony, performing odd jobs and never staying in one place for long.

It really wasn't a bad 6 years, until she ended up on Earth. It was not a pleasant place, and Kayleigh had never enjoyed being planet side anyways, things seemed too stationary. Jobs were annoyingly hard to find, and Kayleigh found herself stuck on that over-polluted rock.

Thankfully, she had hardly settled in when one of those "Deeps" had shown up. Kayleigh didn't think twice before trying to get a job on it. Her experience with the military and lack of formal schooling barred her from most of the technical jobs, but she could still mix a drink. Before she knew it, Kayleigh belonged to the Nomad.

As far as education goes....Kayleigh taught herself as she went along. However, just because she hasn't had any formal schooling doesn't make her stupid, quite the opposite, actually. Experience is a good teacher.

Other:
Nothing I can think of.

Roleplay Sample:
Kayleigh massaged her shoulder absentmindedly as she watched people milling around the room, most in various stages of inebriation. A glance at her watch informed her that it was time to clean up, so she pulled a rag out of the sink and began wiping down the counter. Mentally, she calculated how many credits she had saved up so far. A few more months, and she’d have enough to leave the nomad and find some “real” work.

All in all, life here wasn’t so bad; it just got a little boring. Occasionally, the Nomad landed somewhere interesting, but lately they had been spending more time in space, travelling. About a month ago, Kayleigh had discovered an interesting source of entertainment. Some of the mechanics and other crew would hold boxing matches when time allowed. She rarely joined in, most men didn’t take kindly to fighting with a woman, but it was fun to watch, and it supplemented her income a little when she chose to bet on her favorites.

“Working hard or hardly working?”

Kayleigh looked up to see who had addressed her and smiled, it was one of the more interesting regulars. A deep space miner, if she remembered correctly.

“Oh, you know me, just doing enough to get paid. “

She pulled out a glass and poured in a shot of whiskey.

“Could you make it a double?”

“I thought you were trying to watch it?” She dropped the empty bottle into a trash bin.

“Our little secret?” He winked as she shook her head.

“Fine fine, I’ve got to get more from the back.”

Kayleigh slid out from behind the bar, dodging through the kitchen to the back room where they kept more supplies. She had just found the box she was looking for when the Nomad gave a sickening lurch. Caught off guard, she was thrown into the shelf. Desperately, Kayleigh reached out for something to grab for support as everything went black.
