I shall defend the anime here.
The first anime overtook the manga. The manga artist didn't want the ending of the manga to be spoiled through the anime, so she allowed for that to happen.
The manga is a monthly release, while the anime was weekly. So it makes sense that the anime would quickly catch up with the manga. The manga being only 101 chapters at this moment. So you can imagine it was vastly shorter when the first anime began.
Now, there has been a second anime following the manga in closer scrutiny. However, it is already catching up on the current chapters quickly. It's covered about 60 chapters in 29 episodes, the first episode basically there to differentiate it from the first anime. So, that's about 2 chapters an episode, give or take.
That means it would take about six more months for the current anime to overtake the manga. I highly doubt the manga itself will be complete by that time as it is still in the climax of the story and could very well be for six more chapters.
Anyway, firstanime!FMA and manga!FMA are completely different continuities and should be treated as such. The characters develop differently, the plots develop differently, etc. Please don't get angry about firstanime!FMA because it's different from the manga. It's a simple case of
Overtook the Manga.
