M1

Location: English Channel
Depth: 66-75m
Diving: Trimix
Organising: Glenn

QUOTE
The M1 wreck sits on a silty seabed at 75m, with a least depth of 66m to the top of the conning tower. It is almost upright, 5m proud of the seabed with a slight list to port, and almost intact except for that huge 60 ton gun turret and operating mechanism. This has fallen on the port-side seabed only 2m from the main hull...

QUOTE (Glenn)

Have approached two skippers out of Plymouth for the M1 - there's a scheduled trip on the 6th June - Weds - cost for the dive is between £40 - £60 and with gas on top for the 75M, petrol & B&B etc. then all good news - perhaps £110 - £150 cost in total. I'll advise on this forum page of any progress - but it's very exciting!

If any of you have views on the 6th June please advise!

G

M1 Update:

Rich from Deep Blue Diving recommends a slot between the 9th and 12 of July for the best tides - this is getting real now - and is a serious dive - so all of you who are interested please let me know and we'll start getting deposits down.

COME ON!!!!

Hi Glenn

I'm not sure, but I don't think PaulT has had chance to send out a circular to all the Tech Divers with the Tech Meeting details...so I doubt many people know to look here yet for planned trips etc ....

At the moment, this dive is out of my range sad.gif ... and finances are a little tight to do the appropriate training & dives, but, be sure, as soon as I can, I will biggrin.gif .

See you soon.

That's great Jes - that's two of us confirmed for sure and we'll see what the rest of the guys can say!

My trimix cert came through last week too - so all good to go!

Dear All,

I'm looking at availability with Rich for late August and September now for this awesome little pinnacle dive - the tides have to be right and in general we'll need to be aware of the following:

1. The boat is in 80m to the seabed - 72ish to the top of the conning tower - not too heavily netted as reports indicate. Rich is diving this on Thursday so we'll see what he says about the state of her.
2. The mix will be likely 15/35 to be on the safe side, suggest 40% & 80% for deco.
3. On open circuit 20 - 25 minutes bottom time is what we can expect to get out of twin 12's and 2 slings.
4. Rich will help us on organisation and maybe getting more divers on his newsletter to help reduce cost, I know a couple of experienced trimix guys that could help get numbers up as well, and they're nice DIR chappies!
5. I really want to get some deep practice dives in as well - anyone else up for a weekend on deeper action? Gary -would Ivor be interested from Protector?
6. So far there's PVT, Jez, Gary Linger and me - anyone else in after these new certs are done?
7. As a thought - we could maybe do the dive on two days running - it's a BIG wreck - so could make it more worthwhile?

Link here for the specs of the boat:

Let me know what you think - PM me or I'm on 07811 201570!

I believe that flights to Malta are mainly on 8th/ 9th.

I'm going to be working due to schedule changes but I hope to get out there for a couple of days smile.gif .....does mean though that I'm not going to be able to do Trimix this time... so M1 is still out for me for a while yet! : (

Aha!!

That's great news, but there's only three of us for the M1 right now! You could also do most of your trimix on a couple of days . . . . . . then finish it off back in Blighty! Am hoping to get to Malta and to Cyprus for the Zenobia - schedules allowing!

Hope you can make it!!

Hi all,

The M1 trip is now postponed as it was only Gary Linger and I that were able to do it - so we couldn't fill the boat, even with all of our gear!!!

However - we're now looking at later in the year and I think it'd be great for all of the Trimix qualified divers (more of us after August!) to get together and start training in teams for some deeper dives in the sea. First practice is scraping the 80m bottom at Chepstow!

Anyone up for it?

Hey Glenn, I should get some dates soon for Trimix. After that, for sure I'm up for some team training. As soon as I know more, I'll drop you a mail.

Journeys to the bottom of the ocean last night on UK history was M1. Don't know if it will be repeated anytime soon.
