CALLAN LANGLEY IS:
5'5" tall and one-hundred nineteen pounds at her last check. She has brown eyes and brown hair naturally, although she's in the habit of dying it bright colors and it is currently blue. She has the tattoo of a fox patronus on her left shoulderblade.

5 THINGS CALLAN LANGLEY SELLS:

    1. Cigarettes

If there's anything Callan's guaranteed to have at any time, it's cigarettes. She doesn't smoke them herself outside of a social setting, but they're the item she gets asked for the most, and sometimes she sells them alongside bigger items.

Ironically enough, Cal's grandfather died of lung cancer when she was a child. She just doesn't care.

    2. knock-off Robes

Can everyone afford designer robes? Pfft, no. Does everyone want them? Yes. Callan's discovered that it's very easy to create knock-offs: all she has to do is buy some regular robes and spice them up with some quick magic, maybe add a fancy logo here or there.

Callan is almost always wearing a trenchcoat. She isn't sure if this is because the stereotype - sketchy dealer of items in a trenchcoat - amuses her, or because she just likes them. Either way, they're a thing of hers.

    3. Antiques

By order only. Callan robs rich muggles of their ancient things and sells them to wizards and muggles for a high price. This actually may be the least dangerous business she's in, as she makes it look like a muggle robbery on her way out and burglaries aren't exactly on the Ministry's priority list at the moment.

The first thing Callan sold was when she was nine. It was a snowglobe her grandmother bought her, but that she didn't like much.

    4. Requests

Callan's customers can order things that aren't antiques. If you want something semi to very illegal and she can get it, she will. The only things she turns down are books on dark magic. Dark items she'll get, because they can be hidden, but book content is a lot harder to disguise.

Once upon a time Callan was detained for selling a book on dark curses to an underaged wizard who was the child of an auror. This was shortly after she graduated, and she spent five months in Azkaban because of it. If there is anything that proves Callan can fear, it's her flat-out refusal to discuss this event.

    5. Information

Dealing with the shady character of the wizarding world, Cal knows quite a bit about things she probably shouldn't. She is willing to anonymously sell this information to the highest bidder - or bidders.

Callan hasn't picked a side in the War, and probably won't. She's openly admitted that she's not supporting anyone, but she will sell what she knows to whomever has more money.

PEOPLE CALLAN LANGLEY CARES ABOUT
Callan is loyal to a very brief list of accomplices and clients, as well as to her younger brother and sister. Her parents she could live without, her teachers she didn't care for, and she doesn't like to make friends.
THINGS THE IMPORTANT CLIENT UNDERSTANDS ABOUT CALLAN LANGLEY
Callan was born to a pair of very poor, very in love wizards after two other children. They were taught from birth that love was more important than money, and that money didn't buy happiness. Callan was the only child that didn't believe them, and displayed a startling (to her parents, anyways) desire to earn money. She displayed magic by levitating a fork at age five, and she started selling things regularly at age ten. Callan displayed very strong instincts for self-preservation as well as conning several adults into giving her "dollars for a soda". It surprised no one when she was sorted into Slytherin after a brief moment with the hat on her head, and she walked proudly over to join her new roomates. Some of the people she met in her first year ended up becoming her accomplices or, more likely, her clients.

Her twin siblings, four years younger than her, are probably the only people on the planet she genuinely cares for. Neither of them were in her house at school, but that didn't matter. She is actually affectionate towards them and when she had a will drawn up after her bout in Azkaban, a large portion of her small amount of money was devoted to going to them. Callan is a strong proponent of house unity, believing that she should be able to sell to anyone, although she is prone to making fun of people from other houses in a harmless sort of way.

Callan showed a strong knack for Potions, Defense Against the Dark Arts, and Arithmancy in school, taking NEWTs in just those classes. She found Transfiguration too difficult to really matter, History of Magic just plain stupid, and Charms for fluffy babies. Of course, one could argue that the last opinion was only there because she scored a T on her OWLs, but she refuses to admit it.

Rather than get a legitimate job once outside of school she immersed herself fully into the wizarding underground. She sold everything she could get her hands on, which ended up being a problem when an auror's son requested she get him an illegal book. Callan was caught making the sale and the boy got off, but she got five months in Azkaban.

Those were the worst months of her life. Callan nearly lost her mind in the prison, but she had a good lawyer who scheduled her an appeal when the auror was out of the country. The Wizengamot ruled to free her, saying that she had obviously reformed, and Callan was released. She started dying her hair to the color of her fancy whenever she fancied and she got a tattoo of her patronus. Callan refused, and still refuses to this day, to discuss her stint in Azkaban. Anyone who mentions it earns her temper and their price is hiked up.

In the years after her release, the wizarding world started working itself up over a "Lord Voldemort" person. Personally Callan thought both sides of the war were stupid. Blood status was trivial and the only thing it was really good for was getting you a job in the ministry through your parent's connections. She adamantly refused to pick a side but sells her information to both, believing that if people are going to be so stupid she might as well profit from it.

Callan did have a contingency plan for the "stupid war", though. She refused to pick a side even if one finally appeared to be winning, because from what she remembers of her time in Muggle schooling the path of wars can change easily and she doesn't want to die. If things really went to shit Callan would leave the country and perhaps even the continent, running her business somewhere else, preferably somewhere that people don't start things over the "settled" issue of blood status.

5 WORDS OR PHRASES THAT CAN BE USED TO DESCRIBE CALLAN LANGLEY, AND WHY
    1. Disloyal

Callan will stab her clients in the back. This is a fact of life, and one that all of those who buy from her are eventually aware of. They can only rest easily with the fact that she doesn't name names and she sells information on who she sold their information to. The one way to guarantee her not selling is to make sure she owes a person very badly - and Callan hates owing people. It makes her feel silly and useless, and she will do her best to re-pay them and go back to her selling their information as soon as possible. Still, she tries not to sell things that will get her clients killed. It's bad for business.

    2. Morally Loose

While not 'amoral' Callan certainly doesn't follow the prescribed morals of most people. She follows a simple code: pay people back in turn, (either with revenge or temporary loyalty), everyone has a price, and feed your friends and siblings. Is there more than that? Not really, although Cal can be swayed with guilt if small animals or people who demonstrate her code are involved. She could also betray part of this code for things she desperately avoids. Once upon a time she made a list of her morals that weren't really morals. They are 'don't fuck with the ministry' and 'avoid Azkaban at all costs'.

    3. Cool Tempered

Callan's temper is very rarely set off. She can handle yelling, violence, riots, and other ridiculousness with a flick of her wand and a bored expression. If her siblings sneak out, she doesn't care so long as they're back by morning and don't get arrested. Losing money irritates her, but the one thing that really sets her off is the threat of Azkaban.

    4. Utterly Incapable of Being Surprised

Callan has seen a lot in twenty-three years of being a semi-poor member of the underground, and no matter how much one try to surprise her, chances are they'll get a small, amused smile at best. Callan is decent at reading people, she sells to the worst of wizarding society, and she lives in Spinner's End. Trying to surprise her just makes her speed up the transaction.

    5. Flighty

Callan may live in Spinner's End, but she doesn't go there much. She likes to travel, and while she doesn't leave the UK very often (or, really, at all), she switches from wizarding city to city. Her business travels with her, and she's very hard to track. Some people think she plans her travels.

Really, Callan just likes to go where she wants to.
ONE SCENE FROM CALLAN'S EXISTENCE

She stood, hands locked behind her back, in front of the imposing Wizengamot. While in her current place of residence she wore a black and white prison uniform, her lawyer saw fit to clothe her in a skirt and blouse. Her hair was brown and brushed around her face, and her eyes were hollow. She kept glancing over her shoulder to the front doors, where the dementors would take her if they didn't deem her fit to rejoin society.

"And what were you arrested for, Miss Langley?" an imposing, balding man with glasses asked.

Callan Langley reached up to brush a small lock of hair to the side of her face. "I was arrested for selling a book on dark curses to a minor," she said. Her language was clear and precise, and she stood a little straighter. She had to sell this, just as she had had to sell her wares five months before.

"And you got five months for that?" a Wizengamot witch asked, arching her eyebrow at the girl.

Callan shrugged. "Yes." She didn't blame the auror who was related to the boy, although she had wanted to. Her lawyer had drilled that into her head. You-must-not-accuse-an-auror-of-nepotism-let-the-Wizengamot-do-that-themselves.

"And if you were there again, would you do the same thing?"

Callan glanced at her lawyer, who gave her a tiny thumbs up.

Go for it.

"Godric, no. That was a mistake."

You didn't mess with the ministry. Dark books weren't able to be hidden as objects were. She had learned those lessons.
