Just as a quick update, I've unfortunately had to put the project on hold again until I can fix my computer. I'm currently online off of my laptop, however my desktop where I do all of my work became fried after a major malfunction. Luckily, I have all of my files stored to a separate hard drive, so none of the work was lost.

Unlucky, had my graphics card fry on me at the end of last year, just after I got all those new christmas games too :\. It's a royal pain, but hopefully you'll be able to get it fixed quickly and you won't have to hang around for months like I did.

Blah. My desktop IS up and running at the moment, however it's having problems connecting to the internet for some reason. Without the ability to go online, I can't download re-download my programs (as in Game Maker) to program the game. So until I can solve that problem, I'll be busy prepping for when I can get back onto programming by doing maps and finalizing Pokemon locations.

And as a quick side-note to where I am at with the programming, I have configured the file so I can set up NPC's and other interactive events on a whim. Along with that, most animations have been programmed in such as water (which was the hardest to be honest), flowers, trees, grass, as well as having NPC's looking around while stationary. Because of these major changes, once I get the base mechanics of the game programmed then everything else should essentially be a cakewalk and just becomes a matter of inputting data rather than programming.

I've also changed up how I am incorporating maps into rooms by putting the maps together into one collective room, whereas before I had each map in its own individual room. By combining maps, it will allow the player to flawlessly move about from one location to another without glitchy room transitions that may have been experienced before.

The PokeGear programming is being massively edited which will delay me a couple of days longer than I wanted to, but alas it will be for the greater good as players will now get smoother transitions when changing cards in the PokeGear.

I can't really think of anything else to mention that I just recently did before my desktop crashed. I'm currently thinking about collecting up a voluntary story team so I can share the in-game story with them and attempt to get insight, as well as constructive crit, to see if anything needs changing.

The seamless transitioning sounds very useful, and if the PokeGear overhaul does mean a better experience, then sounds good too smile.gif. Having to do programming is the more difficult bit I assume, so I'm glad to hear that's out of the way for you, though I suppose there's a heck of a lot of data to input seeing as it's a Pokemon game.

And I wouldn't mind auditing the story and providing constructive criticism (i.e. PICK ME! PICK ME! laugh.gif ).

Another quick update:

Currently working on revitalizing the Johto Pokedex. The goal of doing so is to have a similar system such as DPP where you get the National Dex after you have seen all of the Pokemon in the original Dex. In doing so, the Johto Dex may be reduced down some Pokemon but that means there will be a more diverse amount of Pokemon to be spread across the three regions in the game. Currently I have set the max to 210 Pokemon in the Johto Dex similar to the Sinnoh Dex in Platinum.

As for a programming update, I'm currently editing the second field for the Johto region (in simple terms, Violet City to Ecruteak City). I've managed to get all of the Headbutt Trees programmed in and am currently working on the ocean/water edges for the game.

I may be able to get some more screenshots out soon for the game such as shots inside of Prof. Elm's lab, New Bark Town, etc. I'm trying to keep public information limited at the moment (obviously), so the upcoming screenshots will be limited to the beginning of the game.

Yes, some locations will be open. Though some of the locations that will be opened will require events that the player will have to trigger in order to open the areas (ex. Safari Zone in Fuschia City).

Sounds good, and one more question: will there be any completely new areas besides the orange islands?

Doubtful, to be honest.

Well of course. Though it's not like the game is going to be released with any problems as I will, as well as several others, will beta test it to determine if anything else needs to be polished before the official release.

Also, do you have any idea on when you think the official release, or at least the beta will be?

No idea, especially with my last year of school starting today.

Essentially, whenever it gets done then its done. Once the beta is done I'll re-go through everything to polish and then find a pluck few to play the game and check out problems before the final release.
