Sitting in a comfortable little lounge, Otto tried to relax in his disguise. His face didn't feel normal with the mustache and goatee he had on, nor could he get used to the bright blond hair he saw in the mirror. At least Imperial clothes were comfortable.

"So we all ended up on the Rinduvi Holotheater, band and all! Oh, it was a frightening time for all of us. I'll never forget it."

Otto nodded at the pudgy Muun sitting next to him. The man never tired of conversation. In fact for the last hour or so Otto had only uttered a dozen words, the Muun had said the rest. He had a lot of stories about him and his band as they traveled around the galaxy doing gigs in strange places. It seemed each one was an adventure.

Looking up at the chrono on the wall, Otto noticed they had ten more minutes before the Magnificent Spinner exited hyperspace. According the captain's spiel, it would take them nearly another hour on sublight speed to reach Bastion, then hour or so getting through planetary traffic. Bastion was the hub of Imperial Space after all.

"So Mr. Larooge, do you think you'll have a chance to stop by the Blue Shaak? My band's sure to stir up a crowd."

"When will you be playing?" Otto asked, somewhat curious.

"This weekend will be our first show. Natunda and Atunda, two evening gigs each night, one at 26:00 the other at 29:00, Bastion time."

"Well I might be free then. I'll have to see how things go." Otto rose from his seat. "It's been nice meeting you Mr. Suri, and good luck with your show."

The two parted ways as Otto headed toward his cabin. All his things were packed and BOZ was guarding the room. Five more minutes to realspace.

Adelaide walked into the apartment at 507 Lazzara Plaza, named for a minor Imperial bureaucrat who had made some kind of great stride in the tax laws for this district of the ecumenopolis that was Bastion. The apartment was part of the identity Otto had fabricated for her. According to the records now in the Imperial databases, Olivia had been living with her mother on Coruscant for just under two years. Before she'd left, she'd sold her apartment, and had made arrangements for a new one before returning. This is where Adelaide was now.

She set down her bags and looked around. It seemed that this apartment complex provided a few basic pieces of furniture. A table stood in one of the corners, surrounded by three cheap folding chairs. An old couch sat in the other corner of the room. The kitchen was open to the living area, and a hallway to the right led down to more rooms.

Adelaide dragged her suitcase of clothing to one of the adjoining rooms, which contained a bed, and returned to the living space. She reached out with the Force to detect any sort of mechanical surveillance devices, but she sensed nothing. Satisfied, she opened the second bag and rummaged around, pulling out both vibrokamas and her lightspear. She reached back with one hand and undid the bun she'd tied her hair back into, neatly catching the focusing crystals to her weapons as they fell out of their hiding place. It was the work of moments to reinsert the crystals and test the weapons. The green of the shoto blades affixed on top of each vibrokama glowed brightly, and the three orange blades of her lightspear were no less brilliant. The physical blades of the vibrokamas, Adelaide was pleased to see, flicked in and out of the handle on well-oiled hinges. She began unpacking the bag, which contained various homey trinkets and gadgets she'd decided to bring from home. As she unpacked, she came across her blaster. Adelaide picked it up and turned it over and over in her hand, frowning.

She'd never been a blaster kind of girl; her unconventional Jedi weaponry was more than enough to handle. She remembered vividly the day she'd received it, the day she'd left home.

"This blaster's been in our family for generations," her father had said with a shrug when Adelaide had questioned its origins, "Supposedly, it belonged to an adventurer within our family, and it's been handed down ever since."

Adelaide remembered mentally dismissing the gift. At that time, she'd just been accepted into the Jedi Academy and had been full of wild dreams of wielding a lightsaber and using the Force. And why stop with a lightsaber? There were so many interesting variations on the weapon that she could pursue...

As if to read her mind, her father had continued, "I know that Jedi don't usually use blasters, but it's always been given to an adventurous member of the family, somebody in the spirit of the guy who made the thing in the first place," he had said. "Like any true Grenada," he'd added with a smile. "Even if you never use it, think of it as a sort of...good luck charm. You're embarking on the biggest journey of your life, and I'd love to send a little something along with you."

That had made Adelaide smile. She had accepted the gift, hugged both her parents, and set off for Kashyyyk. And as she'd expected, she'd never used the weapon. It had lain in a corner of a dresser drawer during her entire time at the Academy, and when she'd moved to Coruscant, she'd packed it just like she had all her other luggage.

Adelaide looked at the weapon. Imperial citizens don't carry Jedi weapons, I bet she thought, looking at the pile of her remaining weaponry sitting a few feet from her. She studied the weapon. There were several dials at the intersection of stock and barrel. Adelaide continued turning it over and over. From the look of it, it was meant to be held in the right hand. She curled her fingers around the stock and marveled at the fit of it in her hand. She tested the dials. All of them were easily accessible from a firm hold on the weapon, and though they were a little sticky, they moved quite well for their age. I probably havenít been maintaining it too well either, she thought, a little guiltily.

She made quick sense of the weaponís operation and set output to the lowest power. She cast around for something to fire at and found an old flimsiboard box on top of the fridge. She lifted it with the Force, took aim, and pulled the trigger. The weapon sputtered, but did not fire. Adelaide returned the box to the counter and studied the weapon some more. She found a door and opened it, revealing a mess of components. Adelaide had taken the mandatory technical engineering classes at the Academy and was able to identify the power source. She popped it out and looked at it. Must be depleted or something, she thought, and slipped it back in. She would get the blaster looked at inside some kind of machine shop later on. She set the blaster down with the rest of her weaponry. Later on, she would hide each piece separately.

As she turned to continue unpacking, she wondered if Otto was on the planet yet. She supposed that she would sense his presence when it arrived, and wondered what his orders would direct them to do next.

Riina almost fell asleep over her usual reports. Nothing was happening in the Emperor's Office, nothing was happening in the Palace, nothing was going in or out of Bastion...

Nothing. Ever. Nothing had happened in the entire Empire since Flat had usur- taken over the throne. Nothing. Not. One. Crinking. Thing.

It was enough to drive her mad. Whether she was loyal to Flat, or to the Emperor...

Couldn't someone invade? Maybe try to assassinate the Emperor (and succeed, if the Force was with her)? Couldn't someone at least... she didn't know... do something?

Riina's eyes began to drift shut for the fourth time in half as many hours when she came across a report from someone that brightened her day. Zim! Her boyfriend on Coruscant, a Naval Lieutenant who she hadn't seen in... well, way too flippin' long, had written her a letter! Riina marveled for a moment at the system she had set up. It had probably reached her "apartment" no longer than 20 standard hours ago, and now the original version was here in her hand.

Oh, yes. It even smelled like Zim. A little bit of sweat, a little bit of starch, and just a hint of Bluefruit Kintle tea. The real deal, indeed.

Dear Nomi,

How are you feeling? We haven't gone out in far too long- I hope school and work aren't doing you too bad. I miss you so badly. You have no idea.

Iblis is killing me. A pair of Jedi just disappeared, and with them government support on Coruscant is plummeting. You might have noticed yourself. Iblis is sure that they're spies of some sort, the way they were acting.

Maybe we could get together some night this weekend. I miss you, and we could both use something to take our minds off of work. I'd comm you, but they told me your comm was disconnected.

Love you, Zimmel.

Riina's heart fluttered. It had definitely been too long. She figured she'd answer this in person. But first...

Two Jedi leaving Coruscant. Jedi that the revered Admiral Iblis thought to be spies of some sort.

Spies were something. Riina could deal with something. Something was so, so much better than nothing.

She wasn't falling asleep anymore.

Otto and BOZ were in line at the spaceport now. At least the Imperials were efficient. The line was moving rather quickly. His forged documents got him passed the first check without any problems. However, it was the second check that had him nervous.

Placing his luggage on the conveyor, the large bag slowly disappeared into some boxy oversized scanner. Then he and BOZ had to walk through scanner tunnels themselves. BOZ's was designed specifically for droids.

Otto calmly walked through the tunnel and met the guard on the other side. The guard looked over at the scanner results. "You're good."

Relief flushed over, but hesitated as he waited for BOZ. Luckily the droid went through without a hitch.

He was free and clear.

Catching a ride with an airtaxi, Otto found himself at the Pallaeon Arms, a nice little three star hotel conveniently in the midst of things. Paying up front for five nights and one room, Otto made his way to the twelfth floor, room 114. It was a spacious with all the usual commodities: a bed, holotube, wall mounted data terminal, and fresher. Otto tossed his luggage on the bed and walked over to the curtains. Pulling them back, he took in his first real glimpse of Bastion's capital.

Skyscrappers filled the cityscape while air traffic crawled through it like streams of ants. A setting sun was illuminating the sky with brilliant molten golds while violet clouds dissipated in its wake.

It was a pretty city. Not as crowded as Coruscant's, but certainly a notch up from backwaters like Mos Eisley.

He let out a breath as he turned his mind to his mission. He had already reached out in the Force passively and felt Adelaide's presence. She was somewhere in the city already. His first priority would probably be to find her.

"Come here BOZ, let's see about getting that thing out of you."

"Why thank you master, it was beginning to feel a bit cramped in here."

Otto smiled as he pulled out a multi tool and went to work. Soon he had his lightsaber reassembled and stashed inside his green tunic.

Having a weapon at hand, he now felt safe enough to go out wandering in search of Adelaide.

"Come on BOZ, let's see what she's up to."

When Adelaide had finished unpacking, she decided to take a nap. The bed was comfortable enough, and she soon drifted off. When she awoke, she glanced at her wrist chrono. Two standard hours had gone by. She glanced out the window, and could see a sliver of black across the top of the brilliant skyline. Still in bed, she reached up and stretched, hearing her body crack itself into a more balanced configuration. She performed a few basic stretches to reinvigorate herself and jumped off the bed. She walked to the window and for a moment, just took in Bastion; its skyscrapers, traffic, and lights. It reminded her of Coruscant.

I'm kind of hungry, she thought idly. She walked over to her dresser and pulled a drawer open, studying the clothes inside. The young adult inside of her churned with excitement at getting a chance to explore the nightlife of a new planet.

I wonder where Otto is, was her second thought as she pulled out a simple top and pants. Stark, but plain seemed to be in vogue on the Imperial capital. She stopped in mid-action, clothes dangling from her hands, reached out to find him, and sensed him a little ways away, right in the middle of a multitude of glowing presences. It would be a bit of a journey to get where he was, but that was the fun part about visiting a new place, she grinned to herself. Quickly, she changed into her fashionable Imperial clothes, silently thankful that Imperial fashion dictated a slightly looser fit than the tight garments in style on Coruscant. There, it hadn't mattered since she was perfectly at liberty to go gallivanting around with a vibrokama strapped across her back. She figured that the Jedi presence on Bastion was decidedly more limited. Retrieving her blaster from where she'd secured it, she concealed it in a zippered pocket on her top just above her right hip, where the fabric was loosest. She wouldn't be able to use it, but maybe she could start looking for a shop to bring it into.

Shoving her room keys and comlink into a pocket, she left the apartment and set out to find transportation to wherever Otto was. Blending into the crowd, she found her way to an airbus terminal. Studying the route maps, she boarded an airbus, keeping a firm lock on Otto's presence and perusing a map of the city she'd picked up from a rack at the terminal to orient herself. After two or three stops and changeovers, she judged herself to be in the same place as Otto, a large plaza surrounded by shops and alleyways into further plazas. She walked around for a few moments, getting her bearings, and spotted a Kaminoan fryhouse. Adelaide hurried inside and sat down at a table. "One Rhommamoolian Starfire, please," she asked the waitress as she expanded her presence in the Force slightly, concentrating on Otto's.

Here I am.

There were a lot of things one could learn through mere observation. Just walking down the street Otto was able to see the increased presence of security. Every block had a two man Stormtrooper patrol circling around it. Shops were displaying colorful recruitment signs for the Imperial Army and Navy. Newfaxes were reporting on the new ship yards and carrier class Star Destroyers rolling out the space docks.

Everywhere was the vibe of preparation. Preparation...for war.

As Otto was catching a piece of a Holostory just coming in on a live feed, he heard his stomach growling loud enough for the person next to him to give him a look.

"Sorry. Haven't ate yet. Know of any lunch specials around here?"

The bearded man looked down at Otto. "You could try Lenny's, over there, but they're kind of greasy. Personally I like the Kaminoan Fryhouse, but that's in the Plaza."

"The Plaza?"

The big man realized Otto was unfamiliar with the city. "Just take this street down three blocks and hang a left. It'll dump right into the Plaza. Can't miss it. Place turns into a flea market." He flashed a gnarled grin punctuated with several missing teeth.

"Thanks." Otto headed off on the man's directions. Kaminoan Fryhouse, wonder if that's seafood...

It didn't take him long to get to the Plaza. A big circular area filled with shops and dozens of species which, for Imperial space, was rare. Off to the side he spotted a ground level store with bright red lettering outside: Kaminoan Fryhouse.

"Excuse me." Otto said as squeezed by two massive Herglics browsing through the market.

It was rather crowded today. The Stormtrooper presence was also significantly less in this area. In fact he only saw four Stormtroopers lingering through the crowd, two of them shopping just like everyone else.

There were tables in front of the Fryhouse and Otto took one while he waited for the waitress. He was so caught up in the imagery that he hadn't even felt Adelaide in the Force. Especially when she was so near.

Adelaide was waiting for Otto to show up when he sat down at a table near her own. He looked almost dazed. Culture shock, she thought. He must have been so caught up in taking in all of Bastion that he hadn't even noticed her broadcasting her presence to him.

Picking up her drink, she walked over to his table. "Roland! Oh my gosh, I haven't seen you in years!" she said as she sat down across from him.

"Olivia! It's been a long time." Otto put on a smile and tried his best to look surprised. "So, have you been keeping up with the news?" A subtle hint to see if she had caught any of the local holocast reports. "Looks like the Emperor is really accomplishing a lot with his new reforms. I know I'm glad to see those Imperial Knights finally out of the picture." Another subtle hint.

Now that they made contact, it would probably be best for them to continue their conversation somewhere more private. However, Otto really was hungry and wanted to get something to eat first. For now they'd have to talk in code.

Adelaide cringed. She'd forgotten why she was on Bastion in the first place, to spy, and hadn't collected any information or even kept her eyes open.

But at least she knew who Imperial Knights were.

"Oh yeah," she said, "I didn't see any of them around. Gods, it's been so long since I've been onplanet," she laughed, "But I'm glad he got rid of them."

It didn't take long for them to finish their meal. They hadn't been able to get too far in conversation since they were still in public, so Otto hinted that they go for a walk. Down a deserted looking alley, Otto felt it was safe to speak openly.

"I've been getting pieces here and there on the local rumors and news snippets. Looks like the Empire is trying to reinvent itself. Have you seen all the recruitment posters everywhere? It has me worried. I don't think they try and start a war with the GA, at least not right now as things stand. We're still too much of a force for them to reckon with. But they must be up to something."

"I need your top com-" Riina cut herself off mid-sentence. She did not want to speak to the top commander of Customs. That would be someone who not only did not answer to her, but someone who wouldn't recognize her authority and would report her interference to the Emperor.

"I need your superior," Riina finished, hoping that the Customs Officer she spoke to did not read too much into the change in words. No doubt he was grateful for a request he could actually fulfill, and scuttled off to get his superior.

No, a thought came to Riina's mind. The Jedi were already on the planet. She canceled her comm just as the superior came back, dialing one of her spies.

Opa'lann was a silver-skinned Twi'lek, the daughter of a late Imperial Knight and a loyal vassal of Riina's. Beyond that, she was also a subordinate Intelligence officer stationed on Bastion, one who reported only to Riina. Opa, as Riina called her, could have discovered proof of the imminent destruction of Bastion, and she still would report to no other. Technically, she would be executed for doing so.

"Opa," Riina said, without much in the way of a greeting. They were friendly enough, but she needed to get the idea across that it was all business. Otherwise, the Jedi would move out of their current location before they got to business. Sometimes, Riina privately wondered if Opa had a death-stick habit, although her father had been very much the same way.

((OOC: Suggestive Content in the following paragraphs.))

Riina smiled for a moment, recalling how she had felt the first time the older Twi'lek had bowed down to her, the newly appointed teenaged commander of the soon-to-be outlawed Imperial Knights. Her heart fluttered in much the same way as it had when she opened the letter from Zim, although Riina was very certain that it wasn't her heart that had fluttered two years ago.

Riina still dreamed occasionally of that meeting with Nawar'aann, and had even gone so far once as to imagine that Zim had his lekku and glistening silver skin... her heart fluttered again reminiscing, and Riina knew she had to take her mind off this topic. There was no need for the last scion of the Fel line to be explaining to her underling why she seemed out of breath when there was finally something to do. Still, she spirited that thought away, hiding it in the back of her mind where she knew she would need it. Later.

((OOC: Suggestive Content ended.))

"Opa. Jedi..." Riina closed her eyes. Thank the Force that the female Jedi had broadcasted her presence so perfectly. She had really done her a favor. She opened her eyes. "Kaminoan Fryhouse, in the Plaza." She heard a click, and knew that she had no need to elaborate. Opa really was a good operative.

Riina glanced out her viewports. The feeling was already fading, and looking at the skylanes outside, she could make it to the Plaza in about ten standard minutes.

Hoping time was as important as she was about to make it, Riina leaped hands-first through the clari-crystalline window. Her gloves protected her from the impact, but she had only seconds before she needed to find a speeder headed in the right direction and snatch a ride.

This had better be worth it, she thought. That was an expensive window.

"Yeah," said Adelaide, thinking back. She had spotted a number of recruitment ads and such all around Bastion. "I agree. The Empire can't do anything on its own certainly, at least not right now." she mused, "So maybe all this armament is so that they'll reach that point one day? Or to make them more attractive as allies?"

"Allies." Otto breathed. "That's a scary thought."

Recruitment posters. Heavy military presence in civilian sectors. And now the Imperial Knights taken out of the picture.

There was something to the pieces, but Otto couldn't be sure.

"Well we should start shifting our focus now to gathering intel. My droid, BOZ, has hacked in to the local holonet and spied out some possible targets. Encrypted datacenters and record facilities. Up for a little late night espionage?"

"Yes, that's a good idea," said Adelaide. She looked up at the sky. It was mid-afternoon, only a few hours from dusk. "Since it's so close to nightfall anyway, why not split up and do whatever for a couple hours? When you're ready, just contact me and we can meet somewhere...say at that fountain in the Plaza?" She gestured behind her. "I want to explore this place a little. It's kind of exciting. And I have a couple errands to run," she said, a slow grin spreading over her face. Finally, something interesting.

Otto quickly exchanged comlink numbers with "Olivia" and agreed that splitting up and meeting back at the fountain would be a good idea. Thus they parted ways to go gather intel.

Wandering the streets through the mostly human crowds, Otto took time to watch the holo screens and news flimsies. He listened in on other peoples conversations, gauged the mood of the average citizen, and studied the new kit that the Stormtroopers were using. There patrols seemed to be everywhere.

Soft intel is all well and good, but I need to get my hands of some hard intel. A database. Encrypted files. Something worthwhile.

Otto let his mind wander, flowing along the tethers of the Force as thoughts came and went. One of the local garrisons would have access to military files, but would be heavily guarded. Police stations would have the same access with much less security.

A police station.

Wandering in wouldn't be a problem, but knowing where to go and finding a computer would. On top of that he need to hack in.

Fierfek. I don't have the time for that. There's has to be another way. Maybe if there was a device I could plant physically on the terminal to hack it remotely...

This sounded like a job for BOZ. Otto pulled out his comlink and called his droid.

"BOZ, I need you to meet me at..." He looked over at the holographic street sign on the corner, "Locust and 345th."

"I will be there momentarily, master."

Closing the comlink, Otto expanded his Force awareness, reaching out to see if there were any other Force sensitives in the area. He felt Adelaide immediately, here warm presence several blocks away and intently focused. There was also a vague feeling of others, though their presence was hazy.

Too far away...but there.
