Crescendo Guide to Droids

Droid Rights:

In the last five hundred years, the question of whether or not droids are or can become sentient beings was hotly debated. Bornaryn Trading (which bought out Industrial Automaton during the Dark Nest crisis) eventually arrived at a solution as tensions began to rise between different groups. Realizing that some customers were looking for droids were personalities and "sentience," and that others were not, BT began offering special packages that humanized their droid models. These packages ranged from giving droids the ability to speak aloud (in Basic) as well as an enhanced personality.

Droid Models:

Model: B-series Hover Droid
Affiliation: Various
Manufacturer: Cybot Galactica
Height: 0.6 meters
Design Philosophy: The B-series is one Cybot Galactica’s hover models which utilize on board repulsers to float around. The B-series are Second degree droids that can function as both astromechs and protocol. The B-series has two limbs, one ocular lens, a large cranial casing with room for hardware upgrades, and a third utility arm located on the back.
Variations: The B-series comes in dedicated astromech, and protocol models as well as the standard dual model. Security and military models are also available but to the civilian market.

Model: Calrissian Hunter Killer Battle Droid
Affiliation: Various
Manufacturer: Tendrando Arms
Height: 1.8 meters
Design Philosophy: The CHK (stands for Calrissian Hunter Killer, in honor of the co-founder of Tendrando) is the modern day equivalent of YVH Battle droids of the founding era of the Galactic Alliance. The CHK's main selling point was its use of a beskar-laminanium alloy. The alloy gave the droid a tremendous resistance to laser strikes and a remarkable ability to heal itself (given available metals). The droid's weaponry was modular meaning that users could buy and replace the weaponry available to the droid. Weapons included flechette launchers, a variable-output laser cannon, sonic cannons as well as a mini-missile launcher. The CHK is fairly expensive given its use of beskar but a less expensive model does exist although it lacks the upgraded armor.
Variations: The primary difference between different CHK’s is the limbs as they can be either dedicated heavy weapons or can house typical arms which could then hold more standard infantry weapons.

Model: Goliath-series
Affiliation: Various
Manufacturer: Tendrando Arms
Height: 2.4 meters
Design Philosophy: The Goliath-series was first designed as a labor-construction droid. As such it was given a heavy frame, large size, and could lift very heavy objects. However, the droids were soon after deployed by enterprising slicers as bodyguards. Tendrando Arms quickly adapted the concept and created a new model with security programming for bodyguard duties and sold them to the civilian market as personal protection droids. The Goliath’s are hardcoded against criminal actions and can only resort to violence in defense of their master and in accordance with the galactic and local law.
Variations: The Goliaths come in a Labor model and a Bodyguard model.

Model: Risant Model 2 Battle Droid
Affiliation: Various
Manufacturer: Tendrando Arms
Height: 1.91 meters
Design Philosophy: The RM-2 battle droid is a remake of the old Separatist B1’s used during the ancient Clone Wars of the Old Republic. The RM-2 features four arms with the upper two being dedicated to heavy weapons. The RM-2 is far more heavily protected than what the old B1’s were, and its combat processors allow it to think for itself on the battlefield with astonishing efficiency. In comparison to the CHK’s, the RM-2 is not as heavily protected as it using more traditional durasteel armor rather than beskar, however it is more agile and versatile. The RM’s primary design was geared more towards commando missions, where as the CHK’s are assault units.
Variations: The RM-2’s upper arms can be configured to support a various array of heavy weapons.

Model: Risant Model 3 Engineering Droid
Affiliation: Various
Manufacturer: Tendrando Arms
Height: 1.93 meters
Design Philosophy: The RM-3 engineering droid was designed for advanced starship repair, light and heavy machine maintenance, electrician duties, and computer technician support. The GA put forth several large orders for RM-3’s to fill their logistic and maintenance rosters throughout the navy and army. RM-3’s are widely used in the civilian market as mechanics and technicians in numerous fields. Though sentient beings will always be able to outperform even the best of droid designs, many find the RM-3’s to make excellent assistants and laborers.
Variations: The RM-3’s are also available in a combat engineer model which specializes in explosives and computer slicing.

Model: N-series Protocol Droid
Affiliation: Various
Manufacturer: Industrial Automaton
Height: 1.5 meters
Design Philosophy: The N-series is Industrial Automaton’s main line protocol unit and has been a strong seller for decades. Industrial Automaton decided against the mainstream trend to more realistic looking droids and instead rejuvenated the unique stylistic design of truly mechanical beings. The N-series was actually designed by droids with the idea of creating their own image. It holds both the value of being different while maintaining the semblance of sentient beings.
Variations: The N-series protocol droids are available in various specialist roles, be it diplomatic protocol or military interrogation units.

Model: Colicoideka Mk IV
Affiliation: Various
Manufacturer: Colicoid Creation Nest
Height: 2.13 meters
Design Philosophy: The Colicoideka Mk IV is the latest model in the Colicoideka line of heavy frame combat-security droids. Designed to take and deal out punishment, the Colicoideka’s are stout, heavy machines but surprisingly nimble on their four limbs. The Colicoideka’s have modular designed backs that can support numerous attachments they can range from weapons to spotlights. The Colicoideka Mk IV boasts some of the latest in sensory technology giving the droid excellent observation and detection skills. Most Colicoideka’s are used for security and sentry duty, while some military units have been employing them as heavily armored patrols.
Variations: The Mk IV’s modular back can support numerous attachments.

Model: Spidey Diamond Model Spider Droid
Affiliation: Various
Manufacturer: Industrial Automaton
Height: 0.45 meters
Design Philosophy: The Spidey Diamond Model, or Model-D, is the latest spider droid from Industrial Automaton. The spider droid has become one of the biggest sales models to kids as droid manufacturers have been running high credit campaigns to come out on top of the droid companion market. Industrial Automaton’s Model-D boasts the latest in interactive processing so it can communicate and interact with its owners like a truly sentient being. The Model-D comes is designed with sig legs, a 10 appendage underbelly rib cage for carrying items, and a data scanner appendage for manipulating data terminals. The Model-D comes with a vocabulator, a personality generator, and adaptive learning programs which allow it to learn as it interacts.
Variations: The Model-D comes in a variety of colors.

Model: Tarry/Tula Model-9 Spider Droid
Affiliation: Various
Manufacturer: Cybot Galactica
Height: 0.38 meters
Design Philosophy: The Cybot Galactica Model-9 spider droid comes in two models: the Tarry, male personality, and the Tula, female personality. Recent polls have shown that sales of the Model-9 are slightly trailing those of Industrial Automaton’s Model-D, however there is still a lot of popularity for the more realistic feel of the Model-9’s. Both spider droid models are on par with their high levels of sentience and interaction modules. The only real difference between the two is looks and their respective advertising campaigns.
Variations: The Model-9 comes in two personality genders: the Tarry is masculine, while the Tula is feminine. Both come in a variety of color designs which all replicate real life spiders.

Model: PAL Model General Purpose Droid
Affiliation: Various
Manufacturer: Cybot Galactica
Height: 1.68 meters
Design Philosophy: PAL stands for Personality Agility Liberation. The PAL droid is designed to be the multipurpose droid that can fill any role. Cybot Galactica designed the PAL to be easily upgradable and extremely modular. The sheer number of design options has insured that almost no PAL model is identical to any other as each unit is custom designed to the customer’s specs. Due to the variety of options, the PAL has become extremely popular throughout the galaxy.
Variations: The PAL comes in numerous configuration and design options. All units are outfitted with custom color and head designs in order to best suit their owners. The core components of the PAL’s are the chasis and limbs, though the hands and feet are modular and are custom built. Due to the versatility of their programming, the PAL’s can serve in various roles across all sectors of industry.

Model: OPAL-7 Companion Droid
Affiliation: Various
Manufacturer: Tendrando Arms
Height: 1 meter
Design Philosophy: Not to be left out of the droid companion campaign, Tendrando Arms designed its own droid companion, the OPAL-7 series. The OPAL-7 was a direct attack on the popular spider models and became an instant success with children everywhere. Tendrando’s holo commercial campaign stressed “Why have a pet when you can have a buddy,” and went on to illustrate how the OPAL-7 could play sports, games, and even help with school work. The only dampening factor on the OPAL-7’s sales is the fact that they cost five times as much as the latest spider droids.
Variations: The OPAL-7 comes in various colors. Surprisingly there was some demand from the adult market for the OPAL-7 thus a more intellectually capable model was produced but at an increase in the price tag. The OPAL-7i, with its increased intelligence matrix runs nearly three times the cost of the child versions but supports full creative and logic algorithms equivalent to a first-degree droid.

Model: REX Canine Droid
Affiliation: Various
Manufacturer: Tendrando Arms
Height: 0.67 meters
Design Philosophy: The REX canine droid was designed with purpose of security. The REX is lightly armored and equipped with combat grade sensors for maximum observation and identification abilities. The REX is more than a simple companion droid. It was designed as a protector. Since its introduction, the REX has been used for guarding military depots, tracking down escaped convicts, and as bodyguards for the elderly or young. Surprisingly the Tendrando Arms has refused to equip the REX with a true vocabulator and insists that the more realistic cooing, whining, and barking is better suited for the model.
Variations: Though the REX is used for many roles, all of them utilize the same model with no variations. All REX canine droids come with four powerful droid limbs capable of pouncing/pining a target as well as a fully functional jaw with extractable razor teeth or electrical stunning emitters.

Model: Model-Z2 Rabbit Droid
Affiliation: Various
Manufacturer: Cybot Galactica
Height: 0.9 meters
Design Philosophy: The Z2, commonly referred to as the Zeetoo, is Cybot Galactica’s response to the OPAL-7 companion droid. The Zeetoo is very similar to the OPAL differing mainly in the fact that it looks like a rabbit. Soon after its introduction, Cybot Galactica was slapped with a joint lawsuit by representatives of the Lepi and Kushibans. The repercussions severely hurt the sales of the Zeetoo even though a settlement was reached outside of court. Another glaring flaw in the Zeetoo’s production is the lack of an intelligent model geared toward adults. Third party manufacturers do offer an upgrade to the Zeetoo which involves implanting the cerebral brain from an OPAL-7 and placing it in the Z2.
Variations: Available in several colors. There are future plans for unveiling a fox, turtle, and cat model, but Cybot Galactica is still waiting on the legal rights to clear so they can put them into production.

Model: IP-87 Intelligence Droid
Affiliation: Various
Manufacturer: Holowan Laboratories
Height: 1.95 meters
Design Philosophy: The IP-87 is the current state of the art intelligence model from the IP-80 series. Holowan was notoriously famous for their IG series combat and assassin droids, but decided to redefine their image through the introduction of the IP line. The IP-87 boasts unmatched intelligence algorithms and a superior creativity matrix to any existing first degree droid. The Intelligence droid line is perfect for jobs in science, engineering, or medicine. Some customers have reported that the sentience level of the IP-80 line is ‘too’ life like, however Holowan stands by its assertions that the IP-80’s are “droids and do not have the necessary qualities to be consider sentient, nor do they have the ability to ‘become’ sentient.” Research committees formed by Cybot Galactica and Industrial Automaton confer that the IP-80 series, though remarkable intelligent, are not truly sentient, though they professed it could be possible to alter the droids in order for them to obtain full sentience. So far no legal action has been taken against the company.
Variations: There are no known variations of the IP-80 series though rumors persist that assassination models have been produced and are secretively sold to trusted customers.

Model: I-5 Companion Droid
Affiliation: Various
Manufacturer: Industrial Automaton
Height: 1.9 meters
Design Philosophy: The I-5 companion droid was designed from the get go to target a more adult customer base. Deeming the Zeetoos and OPAL’s as too ‘cute,’ Industrial Automaton went out to create a droid that captured the ‘cool’ appearance that would appeal to teens and young adults. The I-5’s insectoid buzz look did just that and became a big seller amongst young adult consumers. The I-5 has a progressive maturity matrix which allows it to match the maturity level of its owner in its interactions with others. So far sales of the I-5 have been very good, though they still trail behind the overall sales of the OPAL and spider droids, the I-5 dominates the 16-25 age bracket.
Variations: The I-5 is available in several different colors and in several different ‘punk’ styles.

Model: Crusader-model Combat Droid
Affiliation: Various
Manufacturer: Plintep Cybernetics Corporation
Height: 2.13 meters
Design Philosophy: The Crusader-model is battle droid produced by Plintep Cybernetics Corporation. The Crusader has been employed in several civil wars with favorable battlefield reports on its combat effectiveness. Though the crusader is often portrayed with a vibrosword, most are armed with standard infantry blaster weapons. Along with the combat success of the Crusader, the innovative use of the beskar shields have also been met with very favorably. Combat reviews state that the beskar shields blocked nearly 35% of all incoming fire and 75% of all critical threats. Plintep has refused to sell the beskar shields separately from the droids, and has been very quiet on the supplier of beskar. Plintep is currently working on a larger shield design which should increase protection up to 80%, and critical protection to a full 100 percent.
Variations: The Crusader is offered with vibrosword and beskar shield free of charge, but are completely optional.

Model: Monarch-model Intelligence Droid
Affiliation: Various
Manufacturer: Dynamic Automata
Height: 2 meters
Design Philosophy: The Monarch was designed as an elegant and highly intelligent general purpose droid that filled the upper price brackets of the droid market. The Monarch can fill the role of protocol as easily as that of interrogator, all depending on the programming modules implemented. The sinister appearance of the Monarch has been met with some harsh criticism but it still maintains its popularity with the upper class.
Variations: The Monarch is available in several different color options including royal purple, crimson red, republic blue, gold, and silver.

Model: N7-series Astromech
Affiliation: Various
Manufacturer: Industrial Automaton (under Bornaryn Trading)
Height: 0.96 meters
Description: The N7 featured many of the functions that previous astromech droids had utilized yet the N7 featured a number of upgrades as well. Instead of the buzz-saw, N7 units featured a high-intensity laser as well as the customary sensors, communications packages and the like. The droid also featured a small repulsorlift unit in order to navigate difficult ground. All of this was packed within a small, waist high dome that looked remarkably similar to the classic R2 series that IA produced five hundred years ago.
Features: Intellex MAX dual processer, high capacity astrogation buffer, flight routines including full pilot capability, advanced repair, optimization, and diagnostic programs, full-spectrum transceiver and life form scanner, fully maneuverable video sensor, two manipulator arms, high-intensity laser (for welding, cutting, or data transmission), holographic recorder/projector unit, internal cargo compartment, fire extinguisher, and repulsor unit.

Model: M-6 series Astromech
Affiliation: Various
Manufacturer: Cybot Galactica
Height: 1.1 meters
Description: Years ago Cybot Galactica bought the rights and designs to several of Industrial Automatons outdated astromech models. From those designs Cybot Galactica create the M-6 with the purpose of making a simple, affordable astromech that anyone could afford. Many of the M-6’s features are outclassed by the N-series astromechs, but the N-series cannot compete with the rock bottom prices of the M-6.
Features: Intellex ZION processor, high capacity astrogation buffer, flight routines including engine start up and taxiing, repair, optimization, and diagnostic programs, limited-spectrum transceiver and life form scanner, holographic recorder/projector unit, two manipulator arms, electric arc welder, circular saw, computer scomp link arm, and a fire extinguisher.

Model: M-8 series Astromech
Affiliation: Various
Manufacturer: Cybot Galactica
Height: 1 meter
Description: Rather than trying to outdo the N-7’s functionality, Cybot Galactica opted to outlast it. The M-8 has many of the same advanced features as the N-7, but with the addition of a thin coating of beskar with special electric resistance plating. The M-8 can withstand a direct hit from an ion cannon, or endure the most severe of hazardous environments. The M-8 can also survive a direct hit from a laser cannon with acceptable damage. Several combat reports have indicated instances where the M-8 astromech survived when the pilot and starfighter didn’t. Regardless, Cybot Galactica was unable to fill the GA’s military contract due to the limited quantity of available beskar coming out of Mandalore. Thus production of the M-8 has been in limited numbers, and due to the high demand, is extremely hard to acquire.
Features: Pozicaster Rancor dual processer, high capacity astrogation buffer, flight routines including full pilot capability, advanced repair, optimization, and diagnostic programs, full-spectrum transceiver and life form scanner, fully maneuverable video sensor, two manipulator arms, high-intensity laser (for welding, cutting, or data transmission), holographic recorder/projector unit, internal cargo compartment, fire extinguisher, repulsor unit, and thin beskar electro-guard plating.
