It has been recently confirmed by Nintendo that a Generation II remake of the Pokémon series would be made. Like the FireRed and LeafGreen games, these games will let you relive the Johto journey.
Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver Versions!

user posted imageuser posted image

The game is said to be released on September 12, 2009 in Japan, and in Spring 2010 for North America and Europe.

Here is some information about the new games:
-The male player character (Gold) and the rival character (Silver) have been redesigned, and there's a completely new female player character.
-The menu seems to be used via the touchscreen. Also, some functions of the PokéGear will use the touchscreen.
-Like Pokémon Yellow Version, a Pokémon can follow behind its trainer. The trainer can also check how the Pokémon is doing like Yellow Version.
-The Pokéthlon is introduced! Pokémon can participate in events to test their abilities and earn medals. The events announced so far are Dash Hurdles, Ring-Out Fight, Shooting Snow, Bounce Field, Charge Relay, and Push Circle.
-The Battle Tower is said to make a comeback.
-The games come with a PokéWalker, a pedometer that can interact with the games. One can deposit a Pokémon into the PokéWalker and as the person walks (in real life), the Pokémon can gain experience and happiness. One can also battle and catch wild Pokémon, find items, and communicate with other PokéWalkers.
-Having the Pikachu-colored Pichu in the games will unlock an event where one can encounter the Notched-ear Pichu in the Ilex Forest.
-Trading the movie Arceus to these games will activate an event in a new area in the Ruins of Alph, allowing one to capture Dialga, Palkia, or Giratina at level 1.
-Kyogre will appear in HeartGold and Groudon will appear in SoulSilver after the Elite Four. Having both Pokémon in one game will make Rayquaza appear. All appear at level 50.
-Apricorns return and so do Kurt's special Pokéballs. Apricorns can be collected in its own case, and you can grow them with you.

More information will be added as it is announced.

No need to squabble. I'll merge the topics later. In exchange, I'll edit whatever post is first with important information. Fair?

So, isn't this a surprise? Who saw this coming? Sarcasm aside, I'm looking forward to this.

And here's another "Dragon posts then leaves". :]

I always wanted to see a G/S remake. Since like, forever. I always complained when they did every other remake about how they NEED to make a G/S one. Seeing as how those were the best generation games. Or at the very least, my favorites.

THIS MAKES ME VERY HAPPY. pirate.gif

I'm pretty sure Kink will enjoy hearing this too.

There's a screenshot on serebii.net. The starter apparently follows the main character as an overworld sprite. I think that's pretty cool. When G/S were released, I had hoped for that. Wonder what's on the second story of Elm's lab? Or when we get to see the girl trainer.

I have a good feeling about this. The 2nd gen introduced the most changes that define Pokemon today, such as shiny pokemon, genders and breeding, hold items such as berries, and other goodies, too. Oh yeah, and Lugia rocks.

I think Goldenrod is a good placeto put the Global Terminal. The Battle Tower can go in the same spot it was in Crystal. In D/P/Pt, Oak says Shaymin's rock is somewhere in Kanto, where's a good spot? And let's not forget the possibility for newareas to explore, like FR/LGs Sevii Islands. Or am I being greedy? The Celebi catching event can take place in Ilex Forest, just like in Crystal. I don't know how the HG/SS games will handle the new Platinum forms. Perhaps the Gracidea can be found in the flower shop in Goldenrod City, and the appliances needed to get Rotom's alternate forms will be hidden somewhere.

I think I'm going to import this. I wonder when it's released?

I can't wait for the remakes to come out in the 'States, though the titles are a little... iffy. "HeartGold"? "FireRed" and "LeafGreen" make sense, even "SoulSilver"'s decent, but "HeartGold"?

Coro Coro has revealed a new playable female trainer to replace the one from Crystal. Oh, wow. I'm playing as her, no question.

There's also a new game in Ilex Forest exclusive to owners of the downloadable shiny Pichu. I'd like to know more.

There seems to be a habit among the newer Pokemon titles that makes content exclusive to owners of certain event pokemon. Platinum wasn't the first game to do so. That was Yellow with the Surfing Pikachu.

Remember the Japanese translation guide for Gold and Silver released by Gamebooks before the game made it here? I found it this morning, and looked it over. We've come a long way, haven't we?

Potential problem: The HM move Waterfall is not an HM move in the 4th gen. A possible solution would be to make it an HM to replace Rock Climb, which is doable because HM moves can't be traded, like key items.

Another potential problem is the lack of the item RageCandyBar in the 4th gen. Possible solution: Thw game itself can remove the item when the character links to a game that doesn't support the item, like the Griseous Orb.

In the post above, when I said "Waterfall", I meant "Whirlpool". I have no doubt that Waterfall will be represented. In fact, G/S are the games where Waterfall was introduced.

I like the new Pokewalk that was just announced. You may think me a fanatic, but I still have my Pocket Pikachu 2. The battery lasted for years, and when it came time to replace the battery, I did it fast enough that I didn't lose any data. This means that I've been playing with the same literal Pikachu for nearly a decade!

I figured I'd update the topic...

The first pictures from this month's CoroCoro have appeared and so far have only shown one small aspect of the games. It would appear that after you beat the Elite Four, Groudon, Kyogre and Rayquaza are to be available in these games. Kyogre is exclusive to HG and Groudon is exclusive to Souls Silver. However, if you get both of them on one either Hg or SS, Rayquaza will appear.

Another scan has come up which show a possible Arceus event in HG and SS which features Arceus and Cynthia in a triangle between three symbols, possibly symbolising Dialga, Palkia and Giratina. It is said on Japanese forums that if you transfer the Movie Arceus over to HG or SS, you will be able to unlock an area in the game where Cynthia tells you about Arceus' ability to create newborn Pokemon. At this point you are given the choice to have Arceus make you an infant Giratina, Dialga, or Palkia, all at Level 1. You can only have one, so pick your favorite.

A few hours ago, another CoroCoro picture showed up on the Japanese forums. This one involves Jirachi. A special distribution of Jirachi is to begin on June 19th. It is at Level 5 and is said to have special attacks. It also unlocks a new area in Heart Gold & Soul Silver when traded over.*

Some futher scans have come out and reveal that the Pokémon that follow you are not limited to starters. There are screenshots of Steelix, Wobbuffet and Kecleon following the game character. You can even get accesories from them in a similar way to Amity Square in D/P/Pt. All 493 Pokémon are capable of following you.
There is also a screenshot which shows that the Pokédex and Box navigation has received a new touch screen style navigation scheme. The Touch Screen utilisation has been fully implemented into this game. All previous information has since been confirmed.
The map of Johto in the background confirms that the game heads east towards Kanto and shows Route 28 by Mt. Silver. It also shows a new area has appeared just West of the National Park. It is unknown what this place is.
Pre-orders for the games begin on July 4th. If you pre-order, you will get a Ho-Oh figure for Heart Gold, a Lugia for Soul Silver and an Arceus figure if you pre-order both.

*As mentioned in the D/P topic
**All of this was copy/pasted from Serebii.net into this post**

The map that was released showed a new area next to Cianwood City. Also, the place where the Battle Tower appeared in Crystal has been clouded over, and the route divider building that one finds that leads to it appears to be present. Is the Battle Tower there, and they don't want us to know yet? Or are they planning to do something else with that area?

I noticed that the forest above the Tin Tower has also been obscured by a huge orange cloud. Are they hiding something else?

The way I see it, its either the Battle Tower, something else, or a whole new Battle Frontier...
...No wait, they have to save that for the Crystal remake. Because they're obviously going to make one.

Importers, take note: The street release date for HeartGold and SoulSilver in Japan is September 12th, 2009, and it will retail for 4800Ą (about $45.00).

To import, or not to import...

It is confirmed that HeartGold and SoulSilver will be released outside Japan (though was there any doubt?). It is said to be released Spring 2010. Oh, and first post updated.
