Reed Richards. Underwear model. What does these two phrases have in common with each other? Absolutely nothing. He is by no means the ugliest man on Earth; he just never takes the time to be pompous about his looks because…well, he doesn’t have the time. When he passes a mirror, he barely has the time to appraise his looks: he stands at a tall and toned 6’1”, weighing in at a skinny (for his height) 180 pounds. Reed Richards looks more like he belongs in the NBA than on a superhero team. His eyes are “one of the rarest colors isolated in our genome”: blue, and his hair is also the same shade.
More often that not, you will see him in a lab coat pulled over his Fantastic Four uniform (a one-piece blue and black unitard made out of unstable molecules and emblazoned with a “4” logo on the left pectoral), black gloves, and black boots. When Sue or any of his friends manages to pull him out of the Baxter Building, he will wear comfortable clothes: jeans, t-shirts, khakis, and pairs of shoes so worn that he is forever being bugged to buy a few new pairs. He is a lovable hermit, and spends most of his time either under things or things things, so you'll often see him slouched over or his body twisted/warped over things. Despite his confidence with small groups, he will get a little downtrodden and shy around large ones, so he looks down at his feet a lot and slouches even more.

POWERS:
The man they call Mr. Fantastic has a fantastic range of superhuman powers when he was transported through the N-Zone. They can be broken down into two categories: Hyper-Intelligence and Plasticity. Plasticity is then broken down into the categories of Dense Flesh, Elongation, and Shape Changing, which is then broken down into even more categories.
Hyper-Intelligence: Reed was already an egghead; now, his intelligence is greatly enhanced to where he is above genius levels.
Plasticity: His body can be converted into a malleable state entirely at will, within the space of seconds, into any shape (time span depends on how complex the shape is). This state is like his body‘s natural reflexes; for example, if he was punched, his body would absorb the impact. However, he can relax this reflexive control, if need be (if he needed to get a shot at the doctor‘s office, he can relax so the needle may penetrate his skin). Despite his ability to relax reflexive control, his skin is impervious to normal stab wounds and hole punctures.
Dense Flesh: Because his flesh is so malleable and elastic, he can absorb impact made by projectiles. This is done by deforming his body. After this, he can also redirect the path of the projectile by making his flesh almost like a trampoline (if he is braced properly).
Contain Explosions: He is a human bomb-stopper, and he can use his elasticity to envelope an explosive; once it explodes, he allows this force to expand him outward. Elongation: Mr. Fantastic’s limbs, torso, and neck can stretch out to great distances (1,500 feet is the limit before it starts to become too painful). He can choose a part to stretch out; for example, an eye, an ear, or a finger, but he chooses more often that not to not do this.
Grappling: He can turn himself into “rope” to effectively restrain opponents.
Movement: He can move at great speed by stretching to his coordinates.
Shape Changing: He can turn his body into any imaginable shape by effectively stretching, expanding, deforming, or compressing his entire body/parts of, for a number of different things, as listed below:
Imitation: He can mimic men with his hair and skin tone, basically taking on their appearance and mass/strength.
Canopy, Parachute or Sheath: By extending his body in two different directions, he can create a canopy, parachute, or sheath.
Gliding: After transforming into the aforementioned shapes, he can glide and support up to 1,000 pounds (approximately the weight of the rest of the Four).
Cushion: He can act the part of a cushion; with this, he can catch falling people and objects safely.
Sling Shot: Mr. Fantastic can launch objects with great speed and velocity by transforming into a sling shot form.
Geometric Shapes: You name the geometric shape, and Mr. Fantastic can transform into it. Math does come in handy, no?
Fist Weapons: Think of Clayface from the Batman series, except more rubbery. His fists can transform into hammers, pipe shapes, maces, chains…improving his fighting in CQC.
Bouncing Ball: Contrary to popular opinion, he doesn’t allow himself to be manhandled, like a human basketball. He really only uses this whenever he wants to leap/bounce great distances without stretching himself into human taffy.
Two-Dimensionality: The one part of his powers that still freak him out just a tad, Mr. Fantastic can make himself the thickness of computer paper (approximately 0.0035 inches) or the diameter to pass through the eye of a sewing needle.
Infiltration: His body’s thickness can be lowered to a thick, liquid-type substance that allows him to run through tiny openings such as cracks under the door, cracks in the floor, or any other tight space you can possibly think of.
Open Locks: He can transform his fingers into keys, that can allow him to open most locks.
Wind Generation: “Better than a windmill!” Okay, so he never really said that, but he can turn his hands into fans, generating great wind speeds by rotating them extremely fast. WEAKNESSES:
Social: He was once called “the world’s dumbest smart guy”. In a sense, that is true…he is VERY intelligent, but at times harbors no common sense when it comes to certain matters of the heart. He was once told that he was a “dork” and that he wouldn’t get things “unless it was explained to him in quantum physics” (meaning that the only thing he relates to is science). Because of this, he tends to talk above people and not “at” them. It is not his fault, but at times it can make him seem like a pompous ass. Also, he is not very comfortable with speaking in front of other people, and would prefer to be a bit of a recluse. This makes him seem odd, at times, to the public.
Mutation:
Intelligence: He tends to complicate things that aren’t that complicated to begin with, and whatever science he can find in things, that comes first.
Plasticity: His plasticity is not all perfect. The greater the distance he stretches, or the bigger the object he transforms into, the weaker he becomes. It is also quite possible that these extreme transformations are doing long-lasting damage to his vital organs and body systems; however, this is unknown. When he is trying to contain explosions, the amount he can contain is limited to 8-12 pounds of TNT, and this does not include explosions of high density, such as nuclear explosions. Sudden shocks like this to his body are physically exhausting and weaken him greatly. The minute he falls asleep or is knocked out in battle, he loses control over his limbs, and they tend to relax, “sag”, if you will. Last, but not least, his transformations are hindered the colder the weather becomes, or he can be paralyzed by being frozen with super-cooled liquid nitrogen fed into his veins.
Elongation: The main weaknesses here are the length he can stretch out to (no greater than 1,500 feet, or it can become very painful), and if he chooses to isolate a particular body part, it can either be trapped or cut off.
Shape Changing: His imitation of others is not always foolproof, as he still retains some of his own basic features, and cannot mimic any kind of man. In gliding, if he tries to lift over 1,000 pounds, then he will tire out and quickly lose his shape. With geometric shapes, he cannot stretch or form no more than 18 inches in diameter. Like with plasticity, his body’s cohesion and his ability to change into shapes, etc. is greatly affected the cooler the temperature is. It is like a catalyst: the colder it is, the slower the molecules in his body move, and the less effective he is. Finally, locks. If the lock he is trying to pick is too old and rusted, he cannot open it. If a lock is a heavy duty security lock, he cannot open it either. Personality: Reed is the ultimate perfectionist…he analyzes every little step before he takes one. Always thinks before he acts, and sometimes the enemy will strike before the Four even can take their first shot. More than once, his over thinking capabilities have led the Four to their downfall. As previously mentioned, he doesn’t have a lot of common sense, and is resigned to accept things he cannot change. If he feels they cannot beat someone in battle, he is resigned to accept this and move on. When involved in scientific aspects or caught up in a problem, he tries to find the scientific aspect of it and gets extremely involved, at great risk to the Four’s lives (mentioned later, in his personality).
SKILLS:
+ Scientific Genius-Level Intellect: Without exaggeration, he has to be one of the most intelligent humans on Earth. He has five doctorates in the areas of mathematics, chemistry, engineering, physics, and biology, and possesses a mastery of electrical, mechanical and aerospace engineering, electronics (how they work and how to put them together), chemistry (organic and inorganic), physics (what goes up, must come down, right? Thanks, Isaac Newton!), and human biology. Ben once joked that if aliens actually existed, he’d be a master of their biology as well. Alien existence was proven with the arrival of the Silver Surfer, and he wishes to study more about extraterrestrial life.
Constantly formulating new theories and being an excellent machine smith, he has made breakthroughs in a number of areas in a very short amount of time (due to his intelligence), such as space travel, biochemistry, robotics and computers, synthetic polymers, communications, mutations, transportation (Earth and space), holography, energy generation, spectral analysis, and much, much more. He hopes someday that he will find the science of time travel, and prove that it is indeed possible. His patents for his technological inventions are very valuable since the Fantastic Four went public, that he is able to keep the Four financially afloat.
Hypnotism: He is trained in hypnosis, and uses this on his enemies whenever necessary, as opposed to fists. Fists are his last resort.
Technological Genius: Reed has invented a number of technological machines and non-lethal weapons, most of the designs in his head before the formation of the Four and invented after the formation of the Four. Some he has not invented yet, or he is currently working on, and that is noted. Explanations follow:Fant asti-Car: Used for short range transport and nicknamed “The Flying Bathtub.”
Reed Richard’s Rocketship: Has yet to be invented, but he wants to one day invent a rocketship with adequate shielding that will carry him up into outer space. Strictly for research, of course. Rights to this rocket design will be purchased by NASA.
Fantasti-Flare: A thin flare gun that when fired, shoots a “4” up into the sky to alert each other of their locations.
Unstable Molecules: He is working on perfecting the design started by Victor von Doom of their suits with their unstable molecules that allow them to mimic the wearer’s physical properties. He would also like it if he could make regular clothing from the same unstable molecules.
Fantasti-Copter: Made a medium range transport helicopter called the “Fantast-Copter” that quickly became obsolete once he made upgrades to “The Flying Bathtub”, allowing it to travel long distances at greater speeds. Pogo Plane MK 1: The Four’s long range transport vehicle. Good for traveling to other continents. It has a speed of 600 mph and can go 15,000 miles on one tank of gas. Now THAT’s good gas mileage!
High Energy Rocket Fuel: In the future, will invent a high energy rocket fuel that will be used exclusively by NASA.
Paralysis Ray: Designed for use as a non-lethal weapon, it can instantaneously paralyze the person shot long enough to be arrested/captured. Similar to a taser gun, but much more effective.
Vibra-Guns: Another non-lethal weapon. It shoots sound vibrations that leech the strength out of the target long enough to be arrested/captured.
Highly Refined Radar Set: Made exclusively to help the Four track down Dr. Doom. It senses metal. Needs to be perfected, of course. Remote Control Orbital Public Address System: Basically a comlink that allows the Four to keep in contact with each other. Reed just likes to complicate things that aren’t complicated, and that included the names of his inventions.
Nega-Gamma Gun: Will invent this weapon to help fellow scientist and friend, Dr. Bruce Banner. This releases concentrated blasts of gamma radiation, and he hopes that by inventing this, it will cure the monster he harbors within, The Hulk.
It should also be noted that using Henry Pym’s (Ant Man’s) Shrinking Gas formula, he was able to recreate it, with his permission, of course. Stealth: Because of his abilities to form his body into an almost liquid substance, he can infiltrate and slip through doors quietly. This makes him better than a ninja in the area of stealth.
Trustworthy: Reed is the man you want to go to if you want to keep any kind of secret, especially the scientific kind. Henry Pym once said that Reed is the “only person he would trust with the secret to his shrinking formula”. He is also a man of his word, and when he says he does something, he’ll do it. But don’t be surprised if he forgets because of science-y things.
Leadership: Despite his ability to over think and overanalyze things, he has proven to be a good leader, with a calm, cool demeanor about him and a humanistic side…he is not willing to put lives in danger and sacrifice morals for the greater good of Earth.
EQUIPMENT:
Their main equipment when they travel as a team are:
1. Any one of their vehicles (the Fantasti-Car, the Copter, the Pogo Plane). 2. The Fantasti-Flare Gun. 3. Himself. He's enough of a weapon on his own.

OVERALL PERSONALITY:
Reed Richards, first and foremost, is an intellectual who is committed to science and solving problems. If there is a problem he cannot solve, he will lapse into a great depression, and will refuse to leave the laboratory or his bed for days on end. He would rather examine an enemy and try to be diplomatic rather than actually fight them. Because of this, at times, the scientific implications of an enemy or a problem sometimes takes precedence, so much so he forgets that the person is his enemy or that there’s a problem in the first place. But he has faith in science, and at times this has bordered on what is called “scientism” (the belief that science is pretty much God).
Sue once told him, “Reed, one of your greatest gifts is that you always listen to your heart over your mind.” This proves that he is not entirely governed by science. He is very value-driven and his aptness to try and follow the Ten Commandments and the Golden Rule is proof that he does have a kind heart, and that he tries to be a good and decent man. This trait he tries to show 24/7, and has never sacrificed what he believes in for the greater good. He has an ungodly amount of compassion, even for those he considers his enemies. Many would consider him a pacifist. Not so; however, he is one of the heroes that is the most non-violent. He is a great humanitarian that does not want any human being to suffer. If that means saving an enemy that is knocked out or unconscious, or giving him CPR, he will do it. Even though this flies in the face of apparent logic, Reed harbors immense logic, and a sense of right and wrong. He does have respect for the law, and does not care much for people that spit in its’ face. No one is above the law, and if you do something wrong, you need to suffer the consequences. Himself included.
He does believe in God, though he isn’t really religious…he’s more spiritual than anything else. He believes all the things he has experiences and all the miracles he has witnessed is due to the fact that science and God co-exist peacefully; they are not at odds with one another, like the Church wants people to believe. Because of this, he takes this prayer to heart: “God grant me the things to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” If there is something he feels he cannot change, he will resign himself to that fact and will not fight or disturb the natural order of things. If it’s meant to be, it will be.
This is a man that truly brings his work home with him. He has such a love for science and invention that can be consuming…to the point where he won’t eat and he can’t sleep. When he’s working on a project, he is in his own little world, and it is hard for him to remember other obligations (such as to the Four), and he can put other’s lives in danger. Thankfully, these moments are few and far between.
Around others, he is pleasant and always keeps a smile on his face. He is much better talking to you one-on-one rather than talking to an entire group (and not just because he sweats, stutters, and pulls at his tie), and once he starts talking to you, he makes things more complicated than they already are. For example, instead of saying, “I’m going to give you a physical to see what got zapped,” he’ll say, “We’re going to examine and isolate your recombinant DNA to see which of your vital organs sustained damage.” He doesn’t talk in layman’s terms, and this makes him seem uppity, snooty, and a pompous ass, when he is anything but. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I THOUGHT I WAS SAFE IN MY HIDING PLACES who would we be without the people who stand behind us? - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - FAMILY: Nathaniel Richards, father. 53 Evelyn Richards, mother. 52 PLACE OF BIRTH: Queens, New York City, New York FULL HISTORY:
Like all stories, Reed Richards' begins at the beginning.
He was born on September 24, 1982 in Queens, New York City, New York, to Nathaniel Richards, a simple blue-collar worker (trash collector), and Evelyn Richards, a stay-at-home mom. At an early age, his parents knew that they had a predominantly accelerated child, for he displayed curiosity from the very moment he was born. School was extremely easy for him, and he was always miles ahead of all of his peers. Instead of going outdoors to play football like most of his neighbors did, he liked to take apart the household appliances to make new and interesting things never seen before. This made his father very angry, and often he told him to stop being so damn smart and just go into sports, already. Reed was not a jock by any means, and chose to do what he loved, which was study. At school, he showed an affinity for mathematics, physics, and science and was in middle school by the time he was nine years old.
Not many at school appreciated how intelligent he was, and he was often the target of cruel insults and jokes, all the way up through middle school. For some reason or another, he became friends with Ben Grimm, also known at "The Grimm Reaper," the school's star linebacker. In exchange for Ben protecting him from the school's bullies, Reed helped Ben with his trigonometry homework, and the two were glad of the arrangement, for they each got something out of it. But they both valued each other to be friends for more than just the "arrangement", and hung out with each other outside of school.
When Reed turned ten, he started drawing blueprints for a device to transmit objects across different dimensional planes. This became his science fair project, and he proudly displayed his blueprints and his device at the science fair. The project was a success...he successfully transported a Hot Wheels car into another dimension. He won first prize at the science fair, and also gained the attention of the Director of Mainland Technology Development. A man who worked for this department, a man named Lietenant Lumpkin recommended him for a government funded "Think Tank"...a program that recruited young geniuses to help create the leaders of the future. The general approached Reed's parents and asked for their permission for Reed to join the program. He explained that the parents would be paid, of course, for them allowing their son to join the program.
Reed's father and mother were glad to see Reed go, and once Reed went to the Baxter Building for the Think Tank program, he rarely saw his family or Ben again, though he did keep in touch with the latter. But he had plenty to keep him busy, and while at the Baxter Building, Reed worked under the tutelage of a brilliant scientist, Dr. Franklin Storm. Here, he was introduced to Storm's children: Sue, and her brother, Johnny.
For the next several years in the Think Tank, Reed continued to work on his dimensional teleportation technology. At the age of 14, he chose to continue his education, but never forgot his dimensional technology. He was a brilliant multitasker, and so predominately accelerated that he graduated with a B.S. in Mathematics and Physics at the age of 16 from State University in Hergman, New York. He won numerous science prizes, and decided to continue his education (once again), at Columbia University, working on his Masters in Mathematics and Physics, both of which he achieved at the age of 18. He then worked on his Doctorate of Mathematics and Physics, achieving these at the age of 20 before heading out west to the California Institute of Technology to work on his B.S. in Engineering and Biology. Double majors never really bothered him that much.
He did not have much of a social life in school...he was more interested in science and turned to studying extra hard for his courses, intent on graduating early and gaining his Masters in Engineering and Biology. Science was the one constant, the one thing that comforted him. Graduating with not only his B.S. but also his Masters in Engineering and Biology at the age of 23, attention then focused on earning the Doctorates, and finally, the last step: the three-fold degree path in Chemistry.
All the while, he continued to make a name for himself in the science world, his inventions he designed while he was in college patented and name appearing in science journals for new theories proved and old theories disproved. Many thought he was a wacko for some of the things he proposed, but Reed never faltered. Which he did, and at the age of 25, he achieved his doctorate in Chemistry from MIT. Upon returning to the Think Tank, he had five doctorates in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Engineering, and Mathematics.
When he returned, he continued work on his teleportation device. It was here he encountered Victor von Doom, a student almost as brilliant as Reed was. He caught Victor snooping around his room one day, glancing at his notes and adjusting mathematical equations for Reed's device. Reed was not very happy, but found out that the adjustments Victor made would work brilliantly. Reed had him be his partner in his teleportation device project, which he dubbed the "N-Zone" project.
Before too long, the technology was ready to test on biological matter. The Think Tank built a large platform in the deserts of Nevada to test the device out. He, along with Victor, Susan, Johnny, Ben (who came to see how he was doing), and military analysts and scientists, stood at the controls of the device, eager to see if the apple would go to another dimension. Suddenly, something went wrong, and all five of them disappeared as soon as the device was activated.
Reed woke up several yards away, and discovered that he could bend his body into all sorts of interesting shapes. Eventually, Ben, Sue, and Johnny were all accounted for, and each of them had their own special kind of powers. Reed suggested they use their newfound powers for good, and formed the Fantastic Four, with Reed at the helm as Mr. Fantastic, Sue as the Invisible Woman, Johnny as the Human Torch, and Ben at The Thing. The Fantastic Four returned to New York and to the Think Tank, Reed focusing back on science by making his N-Zone teleporter perfect, and allowing it to access parallel dimensions and making it a time traveler as well. He was able to fund this with the money he made from his other inventions and patents he continued to make, along with government funds from his time in the Think Tank. They were only too happy to let the Four use the Baxter Building as their base.
The team went public after Reed's teleporter brought forth an alien threat that almost rampaged New York City. Reed rather enjoyed the publicity being a superhero brought, and now has a whole new battle to face: his near-obsession with science, his love for Sue Storm, his new celebrity, and the fact that one day, the Fantastic Four might be reigned in, along with other mutants and superhumans.

| QUOTE ( Sample) | He was a mathematical genius, and a genius when it came to all other things in his five doctorate fields. Reed Richards was, indeed, the world’s smartest man, and yet he was finding it hard to come up with the last missing piece of the puzzle, the final number that would make his rocket fuel equation make sense. NASA wanted to use it. Strange, since before, when he was pitching his theory on how a single cosmic cloud triggered the evolution of planetary life, they laughed him out of the room. Amazing what a little celebrity and a few successful patents would do to change someone’s mind. ”All right, Reed, let’s get it together.” Staring at his three chalkboards, which were covered in equations complex enough to boggle the simple mind, he put the piece of calcium carbonate, or chalk (to the layman), in his mouth. The taste might faze normal people, but he was used to it. Mr. Fantastic was a connoisseur when it came to chalk, and he tended to prefer the yellow chalk the best. Mellow, with a hint of minty flavor.
”Time to take a break,” he decided, and put the piece of chalk in his lab coat pocket. To a normal person, a break meant they would leave the general vicinity and go grab something to eat, maybe grab a beer or something with friends. However, there were several things wrong with this notion. First, taking Reed out of the lab was like trying to take a bone away from a rabid dog…it was nearly impossible. Second, even though he was renowned as a superhero and loved the attention, he didn’t have very many friends to call up. So, it meant he brewed himself a cup of very strong black coffee, and sipped at it as he worked on another invention. Oh yes, he was a man who knew how to loosen his tie and have fun in his life.
He walked over to his Mr. Coffee machine, which he kept near his engineering tools and abandoned inventions that he would work on at “another time”…whenever that was. The Folgers and his coffee utensils were right by the blessed machine, and he prepped, then pressed start. The heady aroma of Columbian brew wafted up toward his nostrils and calmed him. This was about as good as going out of the building and doing something like watching a movie. He hated watching movies in theaters; there was no point in it. Wait for it to come out on DVD, then watch. Not that difficult to do. Waiting by the machine, until his coffee was finished, he then poured it into his many-times-stained china cup, and sighed. Back to the old drawing board, and he could take this statement literally.

Hello Brandy, I'm Kaz and I'll be grading your application. From what I can tell, just about everything looks fantastic and it was an enjoyable read overall. But there are some things in the app, mostly in the powers, that you have explained yet I've never actually seen him do; or knew that he could do. For example:
| CODE | Fist Weapons: Think of Clayface from the Batman series, except more rubbery. His fists can transform into hammers, pipe shapes, maces, chains…improving his fighting in CQC.
Open Locks: He can transform his fingers into keys, that can allow him to open most locks.
Wind Generation: “Better than a windmill!” Okay, so he never really said that, but he can turn his hands into fans, generating great wind speeds by rotating them extremely fast. |
As far as I can recall, Reed has never done any of the above and if you used Marvel Database I think I can explain why. This is just my word on it, really all I could find to be honest, and the head admin will look over it again to make sure I haven't missed anything. But in general, I do think the aforementioned should be edited out because Wikipedia and any Marvel Wikia is unreliable when it comes to a hero/villain's page editing. I know this from personal experience and even some of the powers you have mentioned don't make any sense given his elastic ability. Such as forming his hands into giant, fan-like objects. Overall, I think the app. is very well done and nicely put together! Great job on it. Like I said, this is all so far that I've seen but Nando will give it a look over as well.
