Just wanted to update you on my mom's condition. She is still in ICU and considered critical, but she is improving. She is off the ventilator and blood pressure medications. She is awake, kind of, and talking, although she is rather groggy. Sometimes she is aware and other times she doesn't know what's happening. I think this is probably from the pain medication. They are also beginning give her some liquid to see how her stomach does.

This is a very long road for her and us, but we are all making progress. I want to thank you all for your prayers and ask you to continue. We still have a long way to go...

There has been a serious setback. My mom apparently suffered a stroke early this morning. She is not a candidate for aggressive therapy as they do not know exactly what has caused the stroke. There is a strong chance that such therapy could makes things much worse.

As of this moment, we don't know whether she will recover or not.

Please continue to pray for her as well as her family. And I could use some prayers for wisdom and strength, as well. There are difficult decisions ahead and I'd like to be able to make the correct ones.

And please let me take this opportunity to thank you for your prayer efforts to this point. Donna and I really appreciate them...

Richard,

I will continue to pray for all of you. Please keep us posted.

God Bless,

Naomi

My mom is beginning to recover some from the stroke. She received a tracheostomy today. This allowed the doctors to remove the breathing tube from her mouth, making her more comfortable. They hope to wean her off the ventilator more quickly and easily this way. If she tolerates this, they will put in a valve that will allow her to talk. And if she continues to progress, they will remove it completely and she will left with a scar.

No idea how bad the stroke was as yet. She hasn't been awake enough to tell. They won't have to keep he under any sedation now, so the hope is that she will be able to respond better to the evaluations. While she was not too responsive today because of the anesthesia, she did know I was there. Yesterday, she was more awake, knew I was there and recognized me. She also understands what has happened. I'm hoping for and looking for more progress from this point on.

The doctor feels she is still a good candidate for rehab and Donna and I are committed to her returning home at some point. Now I am realistic about this and recognize it may not happen, but it will not be because of lack of effort on our part! As far as the original surgery, it appears everything has finally started to function again and she is on the mend from that.

How I wish I could have spared my mom all of this, but it is what it is and we have to play the hand we're dealt. I appreciate everyone's continued prayers and want to thank you all for your efforts on our behalf...

In Jesus mighty name we proclaim AMEN .

My mom continues to make progress, although slow to my way of thinking. Still the doctors seem happy considering what she has been through. They took out the drain from the original surgery and closed the incision this afternoon. Yesterday she was brighter and much more responsive to us, moving her foot. She laughed a bit and smiled. But by the time we left, she was tired and less responsive. This morning, she was not particularly responsive and this blue mood concerns me.

We are still praying that she will recover enough to come home, but recognize that will be a long way off at this point. Thank you all for your continuing prayers. We hope the Lord will have favor upon us...

My mom had the feeding tube placed last Thursday. Although she has not had much of any pain to speak of, the surgery has set her back a great deal. Yesterday she began spiking fevers. The doctors are uncertain what the cause is and are investigating. Would appreciate prayers on that. She is back on the vent but is in the process of being weaned off again. The surgery was successful and she is taking liquid nourishment and handling it well. She is sleeping a lot at the moment. Please continue to pray for her complete recovery.

Thanks everyone...

We have had a severe setback. My mom has developed an infection, possibly pneumonia. She is on strong antibiotics. Her blood pressure is low and they are struggling to try to raise it. They have been giving her a lot of fluids and her pressure seemed to stabilize while I was there. Looks like we'll be going back to ICU. The doctors don't appear to be optimistic at this point. She did wake up while I was there and squeeze my hand which was a good sign.

Please continue to pray.

Thanks...

I am sorry to say that my mom passed away a bit after 7 pm this evening. Her heart just couldn't take any more, I guess. I want to thank everyone who prayed for her. It means a great deal to us. I would ask for some prayers for Donna and myself at this point. We have a difficult road ahead of us over the next few days and we could really use that support.

Thanks again for all you've done for us.

Regards,
Rick

Pastor Rick,

I just now read your post. I am so very sorry to read about your mom passing away. I understand what it feels like for a person to loose their mother.

My mom passed away quite a few years ago. I will continue to keep you and your wife in my prayers.

God Bless,

Naomi
