'SVU's' Meloni to star in 'Small Time'
Thesp will play used car dealer in Surnow-directed indie
By JEFF SNEIDER

"Law and Order: SVU" star Christopher Meloni is set to topline the indie drama "Small Time," which marks the feature directorial debut of "24" co-creator Joel Surnow, who will also produce the long-gestating passion project.
Set in Los Angeles, semi-autobiographical buddy pic finds Meloni playing a used car dealer with an ex-wife he still loves and a son who wants to skip college and enter the family business.

"Diary of a Wimpy Kid" star Devon Bostick is in negotiations to play Meloni's son, while "Breaking Bad" thesp Dean Norris is circling the role of Meloni's business partner.

Surnow wrote the script in honor of his drape salesman father upon graduating from UCLA film school in 1976, penning the initial draft with his late friend Randall Wallace, who will get a "characters created by" credit.

Jonathan Koch and Steve Michaels will exec produce through their Asylum Entertainment banner. Independently financed pic is skedded to start production at the end of April.

Meloni just wrapped Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel" and is currently filming the Jackie Robinson biopic "42" for Legendary Pictures and director Brian Helgeland.

Bostick next stars in "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days" as well as the Forest Whitaker-Eva Longoria indie "The Truth," on which he also served as an associate producer.

Norris co-stars alongside Mel Gibson in "Get the Gringo" and just wrapped the Nicolas Cage-John Cusack thriller "Frozen Ground."

Meloni is repped by Gersh and Industry Entertainment, which also reps Norris along with Bauman, Redanty & Shaul. Bostick is repped by Noble Caplan Abrams, Innovative Artists and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

Must be a short filming period as 42 is due to shoot soon too.

Small Time has now been added to Chris's IMDb page
One thing I find exciting that he has 6 new things on his resume in the last year. It might be frustrating waiting but it IS exciting.

Most of the articles from yesterday say the same thing but I liked this one.

Christopher Meloni In Talks For Used Car Salesman Lead In Small Time
published: 2012-03-27 07:59:24 Author: Kristy Puchko

Since walking away from his 12 year run on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, the stern yet sexy Christopher Meloni has been landing work in major productions, from True Blood to Man of Steel. However, while the projects are big, his roles have been small, so it's thrilling to hear reports from THR that Meloni has entered into final talks to lead Small Time, a semi-autobiographical indie drama penned and helmed by Joel Surnow the co-creator of 24.

Should he sign on, Meloni would star as a divorced used car salesman, based in Van Nuys, who is struggling with a nagging love for his ex-wife, and a son who'd rather work on the sales lot than go to college. Devon Bostick (Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules) has signed on to play the ambition-free son, while Dean Norris (Breaking Bad) has entered negotiations to play Meloni's business partner. Surnow, who is also producing, plans to go into production on Small Time next month. So we should get word on a confirmation soon, as well as the identity of the actress who will play his former paramour.

For Meloni fans, there's been a lot brewing of late to look forward to. First up, the captivating performer will appear as Colonel Hardy in Zack Snyder's Superman adventure on June 14th, followed shortly thereafter by his True Blood debut on the show's season premiere June 24th. Presently, Meloni is in production an indie comedy called Awful Nice, and is soon to shoot the Jackie Robinson biopic 42 where he'll portray Baseball Hall of Famer Leo "the Lip" Durocher. It's exhilarating not only to see his performances, but also to see him take such leaps in genre and character from project to project. Meloni's long been a chameleon, but with so many popular properties in his path, he may soon get the attention for which he is long overdue.

This is the best article in a long time. Someone finally coming out with the whole perspective of this man's talent and the fact that he is going with his work full speed ahead.

He needs to do this now in order for the industry to know what they missed holding him to only the SVU role. Also, his looks and built right now are at their highest point so let it roll.

Thank you for finding this article!

Devon Bostick tweeted that today, Saturday, is his first day filming Small Time. I wonder if he's completely done with True Blood as 42 starts shooting shortly.

Independent film being shot in Covina

Posted:   04/24/2012 11:51:06 AM PDT

COVINA - An independent film about a used car salesman is being shot at the old Clippinger Chevrolet dealership lot at the corner of San Bernardino Road and Citrus Avenue in Downtown Covina.
Covina business license technician Steve Painter said an independent film, called "Small Time," will shoot at the lot through May 2. Filming began April 21, he said.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the indie drama was written and is being directed by "24" co-creator Joel Surnow.

The story is about a used car dealer in Van Nuys who is still in love with his ex-wife and is dealing with a son who wants to quit college and work alongside his father on the lot, the trade magazine reporter.

The movie stars Christopher Meloni, famous for his role on the T.V. series "Law & Order: Special Victims Units," and Bridget Moynahan, who stars in the T.V. series "Blue Bloods," according to IMDB.com.

Known for its quaint, small-town look, Downtown Covina has also become the prime filming location for television shows, including parts of the WB Network show, "Roswell."

The last filming that took place was in January when the streets were turned into a Fourth of July themed Geico insurance commercial that was to be featured for the Super Bowl.
