Just checked over at Getty Images and they have about five photos of the event. The guy sure looks good. In a couple photos he's on stage with the cast from "Hair". Wish I could upload them here but my Vista program is not cooperating again.

When I brought my kids to DisneyWorld, they stood with open mouths and didn't know what to do first. I feel the same- pics of Meloni all over the net- hooray. I have saved a few (i mean a lot obviously) and photobucket is taking forever to upload so here are some blogs/news on the event, including finally the answer to the burning question of what the leg tattoo is.

“Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell?” Sir Ian McKellan Will Have None of That
Benefit
QUOTE
You can learn the oddest things about people at a New York benefit. For instance, little did we know, until last night at the “Only Make Believe” benefit at the Shubert Theatre that Sir Ian McKellan, Jude Law and Christopher Meloni all have one bodily trait in common: a tattoo.
Sir Ian, who is due to appear in AMC’s spooky November TV  series “The Prisoner,” may well be the greatest Shakespearean actor on the stage today, but his epitaph will undoubtedly be his role as Gandalf The Grey in The Lord of the Rings. Appropriately, he has the number nine (in elvish, of course) tattooed on his right shoulder (lest you forget, there are nine members in The Fellowship of the Rings). “It didn’t hurt a bit,” said Sir Ian, who served as the evening’s emcee.
On the other hand, Jude Law, currently playing Hamlet at The Broadhurst Theatre next door, has — count ‘em — four tattoos along both forearms, including a Salvador Dali painting, a cropped circle and a line of Beatles lyrics extolling his ex-wife, Sadie Frost (Jude was named after the Beatles’ tune “Hey Jude”). “I call them my tokens,” Law said. The brawny Meloni may be the most etched man of them all. “The Law & Order: SVU” star’s torso is riddled with a cubist crucifix (left bicep), a Chinese astrological chart of his family (left calf), and a butterfly (left thigh). “I’m a whore to cultural trends,” he said.
“Only Make Believe” is anything but a trendy charity. Founded by Dena Hammerstein (daughter-in-law of Broadway legend Oscar Hammerstein), the 10 year-old organization brings interactive theater into children’s hospitals. The benefit was a relaxed and cozy affair, ranging from seeing the cast of The Lion King dancing in the aisles to watching Sir Ian blow a ping-pong ball out of his mouth into the audience.
That’s not to say the evening was all hot air; Law later spoke to us at the Sardi’s after party about the meaning of democracy in Sir Thomas More’s “Utopia,” while Meloni, once a bouncer at a rough-and-tumble New York bar, discussed the death penalty (he’s for it).
And Sir Ian discussed Obama’s stance on gay marriage — “It’s ridiculous. Gays can’t wait forever” — and what he feels is the absurdity of the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” decree. “Quite frankly, America is beginning to look a little bit silly,” declared Sir Ian, who came out of the closet in 1988 and lamented the fact the U.S. military is kicking out gays who are open about their sexuality. “The rule is ‘Stay in the closet.’ It’s not very seemly.”
He then went outside to speak privately with Jude Law, whom he had earlier advised on the art of the playing the prince. “Hamlet is a hard role and playing it eight times a week is brutal. I don’t envy him, “ said Sir Ian, at the end of a mostly enviable evening.

but I make an exception for Christopher Meloni. Last night, I saw him live at The "Only Make Believe" benefit and it was worth sitting through the boring speeches to see his adorable bit with Sir Ian McKellen (who was absolutely breath-taking in his talent). After, I actually asked Meloni for his autograph (which is so not like me, as the only other actor I've ever approached is Harvy Fierstein, but he's Haarvey). Meloni was so kind and such a nice guy. Bravo to him!

I need my fix

QUOTE
Only Make Believe held it’s 10th Anniversary Celebration last night in New York where the event was hosted by Sir Ian McKellen.  I’m including Christopher Meloni in the main picture because he’s smoking hot and mommy likes.  Mommy likes a lot.
This non-profit organization’s purpose:
Only Make Believe is a non-profit organization that creates and performs interactive theatre for children in hospitals and care facilities.
Only Make Believe is dedicated to the principle that freeing a child’s imagination is a valuable part of the healing process.

Oh and by the way why can no-one spell Ian McKellen?

He looks so happy on stage. I wonder were Sherman's been hiding- she was a co-chair for the event too, the same with the Skating gala and no red carpet. I love to see photos of them together.

I would love to see video footage of this.

Oops, nearly forgot again, I'm not sure were all of my photos are from- most are from the amazing selection at SVUfans, others I have saved came from the addresses I listed above but I couldn't post them all here. If you have ones you prefer please add them too.

Caro, that first site you listed is amazing. I saw quite a few photos I hadn't seen before, including a large version of the Meloni family at the Dream Hallowe'en event that I had mentioned elsewhere.
Your gallery and website are amazing too, I have mentioned it a few times but you should link to it here if you have anything new to make sure we don't miss it.

Which site are you referring too?? Getty Images or fotoglif.com?? because I could not find any larger pics from the Dream Hallowe'en site on either of them.

Fotoglif- I can't save them but you could view the photos bigger. The photo I was talking about for Dream Hallowe'en was with Sherman and the kids. I think I had linked to the thumbnail version on the Off Topic thread. I searched for both Chris and Christopher Meloni. There were also photos of him signing autographs at Sundance that I hadn't seen.

Click on the link too as Chris is interviewed.

QUOTE
Christopher Meloni, of Law & Order was there, he was also at the premiere of 'Capitalism: A Love Story' but he didn't stop at that one. He stopped at this one, he's a nice guy, I feel like he and I and Mariska Hargitay could hang out together - or he could just stay home. Maybe Ice - T would stop by, and then I would probably be asked to go home.

Sir Ian McKellen, the evenings host, caused quite a stir. He and Christopher Meloni had been singing at the other end of the carpet, so naturally when he came our way I wanted to ask if he could sing. Sadly, because of my non-Boston accent, he thought I said 'could you say something?' and he said sure, what? and I said I dunno, whatever you sang back there. He didn't understand - and then my camera woman jumped in and said 'SING!' and he said 'Oh, no I don't do that, you have to pay for that.'

One quick comment: the reason they put CM working with Ian McKellen is that Chris is the only one talented enough to be interacting with Sir Ian.

OK, one more - that pic of them both smiling & Sir Ian looked surprised, my first thought, "Did Chris goose him?" laugh.gif

Another interview
I love the way his whole persona changes when he is talking about the causes close to his heart.

QUOTE
Law & Order SVU' catches Ian McKellen
Ian McKellen gave an impromptu audition for "Law & Order SVU" at last Wednesday's Only Make Believe Benefit in NYC — but only because Chris Meloni forced him to.
"Where were you Tuesday night?" Meloni playfully bellowed to McKellan, giving him his best Detective Stabler interrogation. After McKellan said, "I don't know," Meloni demanded: "A little less stuttering, because you sound guilty. Try it again. Where were you Tuesday night?"
When McKellan finally stopped laughing, he muttered: "Christopher, you are so butch."
