10 Most Shocking TV Deaths of 2012 as described in Rolling Stone.
QUOTE
'True Blood': Russell Edgington Stakes Roman Zimojic (Season Five, Episode Six)

Deaths on True Blood are so commonplace, the only way to shock the fans at this point is to kill off a major character as soon as he or she is introduced. That's exactly what happened to megalomaniac vampire Roman Zimojic, whose storyline came to a screeching halt after just five episodes at the hands of the diabolical Russell Edgington – proving once again that no character, however powerful, is safe on this show. This rule of thumb re-emerged at the season's end, when we bade a blood-teared adieu to Russell himself (staked by Eric Northman, settling a 1,000-year grudge), and when, after downing a vial of vampire goddess Lilith's blood, Bill Compton was reborn an indeterminate hybrid the interwebs have unofficially dubbed "Billith."

Best Cable TV shows of 2012, as described by the Daily Blam.
QUOTE

#9 True Blood (HBO)

We all knew it was coming…. yes, they are finally here: the faeries. True Blood has gotten more ridiculous with each season (if that's even possible) and yet it still manages to capture my attention in ways I know it shouldn't. The series is a B-movie splatter soap opera that has become so overloaded with fantasy elements it's nearly impossible to keep up with the lunacy. The vampire authority was revealed and Chris Meloni's performance as the head of this organization was definitely the highlight of season 5.

There were some awful -- and I mean awful -- subplots throughout the season, but the series packs in so much that you can afford to accept it flaws and all. Nobody seems to die, ever. The rebirth of Tara (who I'd hoped wouldn't survive) as a vampire may have come off TERRIBLE at the start but she redeemed herself by season's end. The horrific ending also saw a longtime character born again as a terrifying monster. It may not be a true death, but it was a fun as hell ending to a solid season and that's what this series is all about – goofy, unabashed fun. Showrunner Alan Ball may have abandoned ship, and I wish I had the willpower to do the same, but True Blood continues to be my biggest TV guilty pleasure.

Totally agree that Roman, aka Chris Meloni, brought life into the daily vampire kingdom. Yes, I truly loved Russell's craziness but there was so much more to Roman than we were short changed in getting to know.

I only came back to watching True Blood because of Chris Meloni.
