Hello and welcome to
Choatic Space! In case you haven't figured it out yet, CS is an Online-Role-playing-Text-Written-Game that takes place in the future and yes...space. This site is not plot driven, meaning there’s no storyline. “No hang on a minute!” You say. Don’t worry, I just mean that there isn’t some super over arcing story. From my personal experience, those stories rarely finish and move at a crawling pace. I like stories to be more personal. So I encourage you as a player to use your own noggin and create your own stories.
Now, lets give you all a brief history...
Right now, the Earth year is 2390. Humanity has been in deep space for approximately 100 years since the discovery of Faster-Than-Light travel in the early 2200's...
In the late 2160's Earth's population was about 22.5 billion people, though only 19 billion were actually planet-side, the rest resided on floating space stations. Resources were already limited and space was finally seriously being. Pollution ravaged the sky and it had almost come to the point where you would have to wear a oxygen mask just walking down the street. Things were bad and getting worse. But the world's leading scientists where hard at work, and they have been since the 2020. They knew that humanity's next step was to colonize space. The only planet close enough to branch out to was Mars, unfortunately, it would take too long to get there, terraform the planet, and begin large scale colonization.
So, the scientists begun to shift their attention to something else - FTL travel. It would be the only way to reach the more hospitable planets. In 2172, they had done it. Humanity had created the first FTL drive core, and, much like the first turbine engine, it was bulky and inefficient, but it worked.
Around the world, ships were built, and millions of people left for Mars. Stations were built on the planet, air was supplied, and the terraforming of mars had begun. This was known as the Neocolonization Age. Still, humanity, being curious in nature, couldn't quell the sense of exploration. In the 2180's, FTL drives were abundant and efficient enough to travel beyond the solar system, though many voyages ended in disaster. Of all the ships that left for exploration, most were never seen again. Some believe that they couldn't find food or water, others think that some were sucked into a black hole but no one could say for sure.
Three ships, however, had found a large cluster of systems in 2200. After sending new's back to earth, colonization of the stars had begun. Earth Still controls these new system's and is still heavily populated, but more and more people left their home planet, to begin a new life.
Now nearing the end of the 2300's, planets have been colonized and terraformed, ushering in a new era.
In this universe, currency has evolved from the standard paper trail and moved to completely digital. This way, it's easier to track money, and harder to loose it, and funds are easily transferable.
The technology in the game is highly advanced. Whether it’s from space ships, or to the medical facilities. In this game's time frame, those who were born paralyzed or become crippled later on in life can now walk through cybernetics (if they can pay the hefty price.) They even have special military grade tech.
Now onto Kinetics which are way different than cybernetics. Instead of going to a hospital for Cybernetics, you have to go to one of REM's special stations for their kinetic implants. They basically put you in a chair for a day or two, and implant
REMaps throughout the body and brain, those allow for particle manipulation (Think Mass Effect, but much cooler ;) ) This mean’s that with your brain, you can lift and throw objects much heavier then your own weight, pretty cool huh? Now not everyone can have these, as there is a meaty price to pay. If your character comes from a poor background or isn’t in the military, than chances are slim that they would have these.
Ships is next and the main thing you need to know about ships if you’re a
Pilot is that in order to dock to most space stations, you need to submit your ships id number. If your ships blacklisted, chances are you’re not only not going to dock, but your also going to be arrested. If you’re a criminal, such as a smuggler or pirate, you probably have (or need to get) some fake Id Codes. Their pretty hard to come by, but if there's a will, than there's a way.
Remember...gravity is a bitch.
If your character is a pilot, they need to keep that in mind. Most ships will be certified for the main planets, though some may need modifications and engine adjustments for the less traveled. Don't worry though, all that math can be complicated and so they developed an AI system to aide in everything a ship does.
On the site, there are different ship classes and each one has different specs. You have Shuttles, Fighters, Corvettes, Freighters, Cruisers, and Dreadnoughts.
Shuttles are small, light, and agile. Shuttles can carry four or five people, or two people with small cargo, such as small crates of medical supplies, food, etc. They have limited range and can't attain FTL speeds
Fighters are also small and used for short range but can attain higher speeds. Some can be outfitted with an FTL drive core, though their jump distance is minimal.
Corvettes are quick, though not as agile as a fighter. These ships are much larger and can house eight to ten people comfortably. Small military squads tend to use these ships for covert operations and they are also favorites of smugglers.
Freighters are large, usually housing twenty to fifty people, depending on size and what it's being used for. These tend to be mining ships or for resource hunting, though the military might use them for transporting large amounts of troops. They can also be used for luxury cruise liners.
Dreadnoughts are the largest ships in known space. They have high top speeds but slow maneuverability. They are the classic military ship and require a full maintenance crew to look after it. The smallest of this class can house over two hundred people with room to spare.
If you plan of having your character own a ship and place it in your characters application, please consult the Ship Guide for more specific information, as well as how to create your ship.
Now the for the guns...oh the glorious guns! In CS, the guns haven't changed drastically since their inception back on earth. Pretty much, it’s still aim and click, only the designs and ammunition have actually improved. The ammunition comes in three different forms,
Pulse,
Ion, and
MAGS.
Pulse: Mostly used with pistols; pulse rounds fire hot energy and instead of bullets, their called "bolts". Instead of using a clip like the guns of old earth, these clips are basically batteries with a very high charge and they power the gun. Most clips usually hold a charge of thirty rounds and It's easy to find out if a clip has a charge to it, on the side of a clip are two lights, if the red one is lit up, the clips out; if it's green, its operating.
Ion: Mostly used with rifles, they fire electrically charged particles out the end of a barrel. You know a guns working when the main cylinder is spinning (like a revolver, only using slip rings and brushes to create electricity) . As long as thats going, the gun will fire. Most ships use these only much much larger and far more powerful. Able to rip through most shields, thought they can't do much to the hull. But the ions can disable most ships and are favorite by criminals and pirates.
MAGS: MAGS are basically rail guns, and these actually require a clip with metal rounds. Used mainly on planets and are usually classified as high powered rifles.
Getting StartedSo you've flipped through our pages, and now want to sell your soul- I mean...join. Cool, Well the first thing that you gotta do is register. Registering is as easy as one, two, and three. Click the
register button, fill out the information, and click submit! It's really that simple! Just remember, this site is account-per-character. That means that you register with the same name as your character has and you can only have one character per account. If you make a mistake, contact a staff member and we'll get that straitened out.
Okay so now that you've registered, what do you do now? Thats easy too, although not quite as simple. Basically you need to fill out a character application (or app, as we lazy people will call it). Once you finish it, an admin or mod will come by and grade it, if it passes our grading, it'll be moved to the
Personal Database. if it doesn't pass, you'll receive a pm within the next few minutes and a message on your character app that says "HOLD UP!"
Once your character's accepted, you can go ahead and start role playing with the other members! Have fun, be respectful, and ask questions when needed.
See you out there!
-Cody, your friendly admin.
