> Welcome To Legends of Alagaësia
News::.
Before your grandfathers' fathers were born, and even before their fathers, the Dragon Riders were formed. To protect and guard was their mission, and for thousands of years they succeeded. Their prowess in battle was unmatched, for each had the strength of ten men. They were immortal unless blade or poison took them. For good only were their powers used, and under their tutelage tall cities and towers were built out of the living stone. Wealth flowed into the cities of Alagaesia, and men prospered. Though no enemy could destroy them, they could not guard against themselves. And it came to pass at the height of their power that a boy, Galbatorix, was born. At ten he was tested and it was found that a great power resided in him. The Riders accepted him as one of their own, and he exceeded all others in skill. Gifted with a sharp mind and strong body, he quickly rose among the Riders' ranks. The Riders grew arrogant in their power and ignored caution. During a reckless trip Galbatorix and two friends were ambushed, his friends killed, and his dragon slayed. For months he wandered, becoming more and more mad, until he was found unconscious by a kind farmer, and returned to the Riders' council. When the Riders refused to grant him another dragon, Galbatorix grew mad with rage. Vowing revenge on the Riders, he began to hone his use of dark secrets, learned from a Shade. Then, in the dark of the night he stole a dragon hatchling, and convinced Morzan, a weak-minded Rider, to join him in his practice of dark secrets and forbidden magic. Together they gained strength, and waged a war of revenge against the Riders. Twelve more of the Riders, desiring power and revenge, joined Galbatorix, and they became the Thirteen Forsworn. In the last bloody battle, Galbatorix gained dominance over all, and anointed himself king over all Alagaesia. And from that day on, he has ruled. . . . These tales of legends of old, truths of the past, have gone into the darkness of our memory; forgotten from the both the minds of young men and woman. No longer is the story of Riders told, no more is it a known fact that they were once peace keepers. Such legends have lost their former glory, now thought of monsters replace them; cruel fiends of destruction.

Cala flinched again as he touched her legs to strap them to the saddle. Though Murtagh was now apologizing again for what he had done, Cala simply couldn't believe him.

"Your apology is hollow to me. If you had truly not wanted to do it, you wouldn't have," she said coldly. For a few minutes Cala rode in silence, allowing what had just happened sink in, and also allowing a few more tears to fall.

However, after some time passed, she began to wonder again about what was to become of her. So she spoke again, "Where are you taking me?"

Murtagh laughed which probably sounded rude but the fact that she had said 'If you had truly not wanted to do it, you wouldn't have' was funny to him. The rider only wished it was that easy, I don't want to do this so I don't and it all sounded so simply.

"I only wish it was that easy. I don't think you understand what i said though." Murtagh turned his head to look back at her. "I HAD to do it, it was no choice i made it was something i had to do."

He then turned his head back around. Don't go telling this girl all of our problems. Once again he ignored his dragon. "Back to my camo, I'm not going to hurt you Caladwen. If I was I would have killed you with the rest of them."

It angered Cala somewhat that Murtagh was mocking the fact that he had killed her companions. Every person has a choice. she thought to herself. But she didn't feel like arguing over whether or not he had wanted to kill her brother, so she didn't persue the subject.

"Forgive me if I don't trust you when you say that you won't hurt me, your previous actions tell a different tale," she said, but she knew it was true, he could have killed her before, but she didn't know why he hadn't.

"Am I allowed to know why you are taking me to your camp? What are you going to do with me?" she asked.

He had a feeling she wouldn't understand the choice thing until he actually explained everything out and he was considering doing that just so she wouldn't be angry with him. Why is this one's opinion so important to you Murtagh? Let her think what she thinks and let us be right! The dragon said gliding down as they neared the campsite. Your not going to let up are you?

"You are forgiven for your assumption. Its actually somewhat understandable i guess. With my previous actions I wouldn't trust me either if i didn't know abouti it." Murtagh said answering the girl's comment. It was the least he could do after killing her sibling.

"Seems fair enough to tell you. I'm taking you back to my campsite so that you'll be safe for the night." And maybe forever. He thought to himself so not even Thorn could hear. His thoughts were so confused with the subject so he was only saying the first thing that came to mind."Um I was thinking maybe I'd feed you and get you a blanket."

Cala laughed, "Feed me and give me a blanket? If that what you call keeping me safe then I'm afraid I don't need your protection, I can do those things well enough on my own."

She yawned. With all that had happened in the last hour, Cala had forgotten how weary she was before. And though she didn't like the idea of having to stay with Murtagh, she welcomed the idea of sleep. Because at least while she was sleeping, she could forget about the ache that throbb inside her chest now.

Murtagh was suprised to hear a laugh escape the girl's lips. It just wasn't expected from how before she was ready to kill him, now she spoke in a regular manner and even laughed. "I'm not sure your capable of doing it on your own right now." The rider said as Thorn landed kicking up dirt like every other time.

"Getting your mind probed can take a lot out of you trust me." He said turning and unstrapping her legs from the saddle. Murtagh helped her down before jumping down himself. His boulders still sat the same way, everything was in place on how he left it, even the bed Thorn had made himself.

"I hope your eyes can see better than most. We can't start a fire, it will draw attention but I can still make us something to eat." He said grabbing her hand and leading her back to the boulders.

So what he did was probing, she thought to herself. That must have been a handy skill to have. She didn't feel any different than before, at least she didn't notice anything. She just felt very tired, but she had felt like that for a long time.

She allowed herself to be lead fairly easily to what looked like some boulders, and as soon as they were there, she quickly let go of Murtagh's hand; she didn't want to have to touch him for longer than necessary.

Without waiting to be told what to do, she promptly sat down on the ground and waited for this food that Murtagh said he could make for her.

Murtagh noted how fast the girl pulled away from him. This girl was a confusing one indeed. One minute she was hitting him the next being calm and polite then back to the yelling then polite again. The young man really didn't understand females that well.

He walked over to Thorn pulling a pot out of a side bag on the saddle and then some meat. The rider then made his way back to the boulders. Thorn you can sleep I have a feeling I'll be up for awhile. The dragon gave a nod of happiness and went to sleep in his bed.

Murtagh looked at Caladwen as he neared the boulder. "You know magic is very useful." He said getting under a covered part of the boulder formation. "Reisa du adurna." The brown head said watching the water began to pull from the ground in small droplets. Once there was enough he let it drop into the pot with the meat. Murtagh quickly moved a few rocks and twigs around. "Brisinger." Whispered he starting a very small fire that couldn't illuminate much light due to the pot right over it.

Cala watched in silence, doing her best not to show her amazement at what he was able to do with the ancient language, but she took note of the words that he used, so that maybe one day she would be able to use them as well.

"Of course I know that magic is useful. I've used it many times in helping to heal people," she said quietly.

She then fell silent and looked at the meat in the pot, waiting eagerly for when it would be ready to eat.

Murtagh didn't even look up from the meat as he spoke, instead he just made the fire hotter hoping it would cook faster. "I know. It seems your pretty good with the ancient language . It suprised me how much you know for an untrained human. You know I can teach you things in the ancient language that will protect you from enemys. It's really not that complicated once you really understand how the language works."

The rider looked at the meat after about five minutes. It seemed done thanks to the sped up cook time. He used the same spell to put the fire out and then set the pot down. "You might want to wait a little to eat that its pretty hot right now." The Empire rider finally looked up to her with a smile again.

Cala accepted the meat gratefully and waited for it to cool. She noticed that Murtagh smiled at her as he handed the meat to her, and she looked at him with nothing less than a glare. How dare he smile at her!

"I"m not 'untrained'. I was an apprentice in a healer's shop since I was 13 years old. Nor am I just human, my father was half-elven, so the ancient language is easier for me to use than most," she said and then took a small bite of her meat.

Murtagh responded to her glare by removing the smile from his face. This wasn't suprising to the rider but still very confusing. It seemed this was what he was to expect for the next couple of days.

The son of Morzan listened as she spoke, some of what she said he already knew but the elven part was a little suprising to him. She was a quarter elven, gave a reason as to why she could use magic. "Good thing you weren't raised as an elf. They're all lazy and old plus they think they know everything." He said voicing his feelings for elves. The teen had heard a lot about them and from what he heard they were no good. "So what are you capable of Caladwen?" Murtagh asked interested in what she could do.
