OK, a proper thread for the entry as well then...
I am afraid. For the first time in my life I truly know fear. Fear for my life. Fear of the wrath of the Goddess. But who am I to blame, I just followed orders, didn’t I? I had orders from King Beoren himself, who was I to disobey? I’m just a simple soul. The others might call me a hero. Yes, I have killed my share of goblins, yes, I did slay the hobgoblin commander in the last war, but deep down I’m nothing but a simple soul. Of course I knew about the rift with the Runesmiths. All of us knew. But no one knew who was at fault. King Beoren or High Priest Saedrac? Saedrac and his Runesmiths stood against progress, King Beoren said. The Runesmiths stand against us because we don’t need their powers anymore. For we have the power of steam, of mechanics, of gunpowder. That is power for everyone, not just the Chosen of the Goddess. But are we ready for that power? Are we worthy of that power? The Runesmiths said we weren’t. Maybe they were right. Maybe they were right all along. Fewol’s Bane they call me now. I am celebrated as the greatest hero of us all. I don’t deserve it. But I had orders, had I not? “Father Fewol, right hand of High Priest Saedrac, has come back to our city”, King Beoren told me. “I want him dead. You are going to kill him, are you not?” And I did. Of course I did. Who was I to disobey? We found him in the old temple, my gnome companion Hetsako and I. I had hoped he would yield, give himself up. Of course he wouldn’t give himself up. He was a Runesmith. He was one of the Chosen of the Ruby Queen. Who was he to give himself up? We fought. We faced the wrath of the Goddess, Hetsako and I. But we prevailed, yes we did. We prevailed by the powers of our kind. By steam, by mechanics, by gunpowder. Father Fewol is dead and I am not. But I am afraid. I am afraid. And now I ask for forgiveness. Goddess, Ruby Queen, Keeper of the Mysteries, Creator of our kind, will you hear my prayer? Will you forgive? Wow. That story has such a mystic feeling about it. The MOC is great, and I especially like the use of both dwarves and humans. Also, the lack of goblins (or trolls) is a breath of fresh air compared to TLC putting both goblins and dwarves in the same set every time. How you made the front part of the second part of the wagon wood, and the back metal is very well done.

There seems to be a lot here in just a few words - I like how it focuses on the "normal" people who often do the work (good or bad) of others without feeling they really understand or have much of a choice otherwise.
Also like the contrast between magic (runes) and steam... I'm not sure why, but it reminded me of the last samurai... maybe that's how the solders in that movie felt too I guess. Very good - and very short... that's actually not an easy thing to do! -------------------- |
