WELCOME
Earth-that-was got used up.
We moved out -- terraformed and colonized hundreds of new earths. The central planets -- them as formed the Alliance -- decided all the planets had to join under their rule.
There was some disagreement on that point.
After the Unification War, twelve years ago, many of the Browncoats who had fought and lost drifted to the edges of civilization, far from Alliance control.
Out here, a ship will bring you work; a gun will help you keep it.
A captain's goal is simple: find crew, find a job... keep flying.

Here's how it is...Earth-that-was got used up.
We moved out -- terraformed and colonized hundreds of new earths; some, rich and flush with the new technologies; some, not so much. The central planets -- them as formed the Alliance -- decided all the planets had to join under their rule.
There was some disagreement on that point.
After the Unification War, twelve years ago, many of the Browncoats who had fought and lost drifted to the edges of civilization, far from Alliance control. Out here, people struggle to get by with the most basic of technologies. A ship will bring you work; a gun will help you keep it.
A captain's goal is simple: find crew, find a job... keep flying.

This is how it is for the crew of the Requiem.
Cap'n Allegretto is about as Browncoat as you can get, but he doesn't like killing. Oh, he's happy breaking some faces every now and then, but killing ain't his thing. His is a motely crew, picked up from every corner of the Border Planets, and even a couple Alliance planets, too. They spend their days transporting (read: smuggling) any kinds of goods you can name, including people, and on the rare occasion that they're really strapped for cash, they'll rob a bank or two.
Depending on who you talk to, they're the good guys, or they're the bad guys. It's the same with the Alliance.
...The Syndicate is a bit different. Everyone knows that, in reality, they're the mafia, and therefore not exactly good guys. But people pretend that the Syndicate are some sort of saviors. While they do have the odd hiccup and save some villages in the Border Planets, their normal business plan is terror and extortion. There's nobody to challenge them, though, so it keeps on.
That's life, and you have to fight for what you've got. So make sure they CAN'T TAKE THE SKY from you.
