It was 2 am, when Sčarlas called him. He was bothered, at first, but then found it curious that Sčar was in Ireland and he'd been in New York a short time earlier. Aggravated and tired, he calmed his brother down and learned that the world was flipped completely upside down. David was back together with his wife, they had a child, and Sčar hadn't unded so bad since Miach was a kid.

Despite his intentions to sleep until morning and then leave for Ireland on the first commercial flight, Miach couldn’t sleep. And he wasn’t going to try until he found out everything that was different with his life. He realized this as soon as the phone was disconnected he jumped out of bed and ran through the house. AR1 was not with him, which was atypical, and made Miach wonder if she existed at all. That scared him more than he’d realized it would and he began frantically searching through the house.

As soon as he saw her, lingering in the kitchen, he was so flooded with relief thae he rushed to her and wrapped his arms around her. She was tinier than he realized and he turned her toward him and snuggled him into his chest. “Oh Lord, Ari,” he said, mushing his face into the crook of her neck. Her skin felt cold, because she didn’t have a human’s rushing blood in her veins, and he wasn’t accustomed to touching her. “I’m glad you’re okay.”

Ari had been doing what she did best. Learning. She was trying to make sense of the displacement in which she woke. She slept, often, but it wans't a normal human's sleep. It was a sort of recharing, which when everything came down to it, was very similar. Something had shifted and it'd pulled her right out of it, leaving Miach behind sleeping. That had been around one AM.

Unable to pinpoint the disturbance, she'd considered returning to sleep, but heard Miach on the phone, so she'd retired to the kitchen. She liked it in there. It was always so clean, so orderly, and there was just so much in there.

She'd been standing there, staring out the window, looking for... whatever might have disrupted her cycle, when a rustle of cloth and then arms around her told her that Miach was there with her. He turned her about, and hugged her close to him, something she was not used to at all. She didn't push him away, simply let him, before cautiously lifting her arms to curl around his waist.

"Why wouldn't I be okay, Miach?"

When her arms circled his waist he realized how uncharacteristic his actions were and quickly let go of her. He felt slightly empty when that happened and took a step back to get away from the discomfort. "Check the network for inconsistencies with your local history," he told her. "Something's different. Something's wrong. I thought..." He paused. The words that were supposed to come from his mouth were something he'd never said before and he wasn't sure how much it would confuse her.

"I thought I lost you,." He scrunched up his face like it made him physically uncomfortable to be so sweet toward her. After all, she was just an android. He could recreate her if he really wanted to.

"Sčarlas called me. He's in Ireland and David has no recollection of their relationship. I am flying to Ireland in the morning."

And just like that she dropped her arms, as he stepped away. There was no indication on her face that she was upset for the retreat. She simply looked at him, and nodded when he asked her to check the network. While she did, she considered his words and tilted her head slightly. She knew the human meaning for that phrase, but coming from Miach it was puzzling.

"There was a spacial distortion shortly after midnight. It woke me." She confirmed for him, while she continued to run her search. She did frown though when he told her about David. She had liked David, "Sčarlas needs you. I will be fine here on my own, Miach."

She knew there was no chance that he'd bring her along. That wasn't what she was for. All probability pointed to the fact that he'd ask her to research what happened and find the cause of it. She'd do such happily, even if she wanted to go with him to Ireland.

He knew that, of course, she'd be fine here on her own. Whatever she could find out about the anomaly would be helpful and she would keep working until he got back...whenever that was. It would be a waste of time for her to accompany him. They had no tools to research their cause in Dublin, but something gave Miach an unhappy feeling when he thought about leaving her there. He chalked it up to just being angry about the whole situation. He was never one to care about another individual.

He nodded and went to the counter to start fussing with some coffee. There was no way he was going back to sleep now. He spent a few moments in silence, just trying to sort his thoughts. Ari was used to this, so he wasn't worried about making her uncomfortable.

After a moment he turned back to her. "I know it would be more beneficial to leave you here to work, but we don't know what we are dealing with at all. It would be a waste of many months of work to lose you if something were to happen while I was gone. Come with me to Dublin." He'd meant it to sound like a demand, but it came out much softer and nicer. Perhaps he was just tired.

While he went to fuss with his coffee, Ari moved automatically to retrieve a mug for him and set it on the counter. The silence that fell between them gave her enough time to compile her immediate findings, which puzzled her more than the way Miach began to speak to her. She lifted her chin, eyes examining his face before she nodded, "Yes, of course." Maybe her gaze lingered, as she attempted to piece together everything.

"Miach, there seems to be files missing from the SHIELD database. I can not locate the registration server." That was the biggest puzzlement of all. She had remote access to all of SHIELD's files, and with the built in fiber net in the building, her access should have been nearly instantaneous.

But the server wasn't there.

"Nor can I find scheduled maintenance on the server. Something is wrong."

Miach nearly dropped the container of coffee when Ar! spoke. The...whole server was gone? How was that possible? No one would ever be able just...eliminate the server. The trouble you would have to go through to do that would be astronomical. "Are you sure?" The words came out before he could stop them. Of course she was sure, she would never make a mistake let alone one that was so drastic.

"How is that possible?" Miach leaned his hands on the counter and began to think. Logically, there was no way to eliminate the server. If this was the work of an anti-registration group, they must've had a very powerful mutant on their side...but SHIELD would have had intelligence about something like that. They had defences against mutants...they couldn't just ring it down. So that had to mean something else happened...but he couldn't think of a logical reason why.

Deal with the current situation, he tried to remind himself. "There's nothing we can do to get the server back. We should contact Karlyle and ask him what he thinks." They needed to contact someone from SHIELD and while Karl wasn't the most reasonable choice, Miach wouldn't call anyone else.

He slowly started to make his coffee again. His brain was desperate for something to kick it into gear so he could deal with this and figure out what was going on. Why would David not remember Sčarlas? Why would the Registration Act just...not exist?

He dropped the coffee grounds back onto the counter, leaned over, and took a deep breath. What was happening?

Ari gave one slow nod of her head. She was sure the server was gone. It was the strangest thing. In it's place was an entirely different server, with no history of ever being used to store registration files. She wasn't sure what she should tell Miach.

"I am... not sure." She didn't like not having an answer for Miach. She was always so good with questions, always able to answer anything he needed to know, but not this time. This time was different and she felt an odd sort of discomfort about it.

"It seems I am not the only one to query the server. There are several attempts at accessing files that do not route properly. I believe the LMD's are already investigating. Gothic Lolita has tried several times." Ari told him, "We can contact Karlyle when his shift begins." She watched Miach, and when he leaned over to take a deep breath, she frowned, touching his arm gently.

His heartrate was elevated. He was upset. She frowned further, "It's alright, Miach."

AR1 was very advanced. A simple touch or comment here or there that might pass an ordinary person would seem so insignificant, but Miach recognized every movement for the tiny bit of code that it took to create. For example, he knew exactly that she could tell the minute changes in his body and he tugged his arm away from her almost immediately after she touched him.

"I know it's alright," he said, his breathing getting quicker. "I just...I need this to make sense." He walked across the room and began pacing a bit. It was getting harder to concentrate. He needed a boost.

"Ari, I will be right back," he said and headed off toward the bathroom at a very quick pace. He needed to think. His head was spinning, spinning, turning to gray mush. He couldn't think about anything like this.

About half way down the hall, however, he stopped. What if she disappeared while he was gone? He couldn't bring her with him, but he couldn't risk losing her. He turned on his heel and stared back toward the kitchen, unsure of what to do. He'd never been torn this way before.

After a whole ninety seconds of consideration he walked back into the kitchen, clenching and unclenching his fists, veins in his arms suffering disappointment at the realization they'd be left alone. He waited in the doorway. "I...I'm not going anywhere." The words didn't make sense, but he wasn't sure if they had to.

Ari's hand hovered for a moment before she lowered it to her side, watching Miach with what could pass for concern. She didn't know what was going on, and it was enough to make her consider fright. The world was different and it wasn't what she knew. She didn't like it. She turned her head to follow his process across the room, and watched him pace.

When he said he'd be back, she nodded, and turned to the coffee, to make it herself, for him, for when he returned. Maybe the stimulation of caffeine would help his system. It was proven to help focus some minds under duress, wasn't it?

In the ninety seconds he was gone, she'd filled a filter with grounds, and hit the button to brew a pot for him. Eyes focused on the steady drips of dark liquid before he came back. When he stated he wasn't going anywhere, she looked over her shoulder at him.

"Are you frightened, Miach?" It wasn't as loaded of a question as it could be. Sensibly, any living being would, if things were suddenly so flipped and wrong in the world, "I am. Nothing is right."

She was frightened? There were times when Ari had been frightened, of course, being shot at or in some sort of dangerous situations, but looking at her standing in the kitchen, making coffee, being mostly normal, the words sounded so strange coming from her. Her inflection was, for the most part, calm and that bothered him greatly.

He walked over to her and stopped less than a foot away. "I don't feel much of anything," he said truthfully. Overload of confusion, lack of information, too many mixed emotions...it all usually resulted in his body refusing to feel anything properly. After all...being passionate was exhausting.

Miach took a step closer to her and sort of awkwardly wrapped his arms around her waist. It was easy to do because she was so small. He examined her face. It was oddly robotic, very pretty. He wasn't sure what he'd do without her. Odd thoughts. His head was still a fog of gray clouds that kept him in a miserably apathetic mood. That's why, when he leaned down and pressed his mouth to hers, it took him a few moments for his brain to catch up with his body and he all but jumped back away from her.

Yes, it was strange coming from her. She wasn't outwardly showing it, because there was no outside stimuli to hold it. Gunshots were easy to flinch from, violence too, but when things in general were wrong, she had no point of reference. She could cry, yes, but she didn't see how that would... help.

She looked up at him when he came closer and said he didn't feel much of anything. Shock, most likely, was leaving him numb. That was her assumption, and she felt a little bad that there was nothing she could do. She wanted to help him. Wanted to make sure he was okay, while she tried to decipher what was going on. The last step, and his sudden physical touch had her puzzled.

She blinked her eyes as he looked at her, and she knew the look. He was examining, searching for something but she didn't know what, so she couldn't offer any help, or suggestions. She just stood there. Her hands had come to rest on his arms, not to push him away, but because she didn't know what to do about this. It wasn't a hug, it was.. something else. Then he leaned down and his lips were against her's.

She hesitated, but kissed him back, or rather, attempted as much, not even sure if she was doing it right. Then he jumped away and she did show an expression of panic, thinking she'd done something wrong, that she was the blame. For the first time in her very short life, Ari was speechless, not sure what she ought to say to him.

Retreat. That was the next logical step, so that was what she did. She bowed her head and moved towards the doorway, to go and... just go. She was confused, and not understanding his motivations, and her own were confusing as well. Human emotions were too complex, and his reactions were even more so, because Miach had never expressed an interest in another body like that.

Miach had just had his first kiss. He was a fully grown man who had never had romantic or sexual interest in anyone before, including AR1, so he was more than puzzled as to how it had just occurred, but he didn't have any time to try and figure that out now because the computer he had just kissed was now all but running out the door. It took him a moment to recover himself, but he managed to call her name in a somewhat stern voice, as he normally would in the lab. "AR1." He marched after her and took her by the shoulder to turn her around.

"I..." He was sure he couldn't explain himself so he took a breath and raised an eyebrow. This would be the point where Séarlas would then see how confused and honestly scared he was and explain what was going on to him as parents often do, but Miach was the parent of sorts in this situation and he had no idea what on Earth he was doing.

"I needed to confirm a hypothesis," he stated simply. "I was panicking and my thoughts were conflicted. For some reason I found a sudden onset of worry for you and I needed to determine if this had a romantic inclination, but it seems as though I was just worried about losing the work I put into your programming." Out loud, it sounded rather convincing. Except he was standing rather close to her and all he wanted to do was give her a hug. That was odd.

And the same odd feeling sort of battled its way through the numbness once again and Miach lost control of his thoughts again, something that was becoming all too familiar a trend. "There was a certain...comfort in it though, I had to admit. This is unexpected..." As he spoke he leaned in closer to her and dropped his voice to a low rumble before once again pressing his lips to hers.

This time he was able to determine what he was doing and tried to sense what his body felt. It was almost entirely unfamiliar...the only word he could use to describe would be...electric. Like that rush when you first shoot up, but all the way down to your finger tips. His heart was beating hard enough that he could feel it for the first time in his memory. After a moment it occurred to him that he had no idea what he was doing and stood up carefully, but did not run away.

Ari had just had her first kiss, and it was... not what she'd expected. She'd researched it, out of curiosity, and it had been an interesting topic she would have eventually gone to Miach or Karl about, just to understand it better. Though, like a child, when he called after her with that tone of voice, she stopped and he turned her around. She looked up at him, very much the child in trouble.

Slowly, gently even, her brow creased as he explained why he'd done that. He'd wanted to confirm a hypothesis. An experiment.

It was in that moment that she found she did not like to be experimented on, without her consent. Such an act seemed, rude, and unfair. While she could find that she liked it, it did not mean he could do it without asking.

"Comfort should be given..." She trailed off when he leaned in and did it again. She did not get a chance to pull away herself, as he stood first, drawing himself away from her. She was able to finish her thought and statement and looked rather hurt, "Not taken."

She was her own entity. He'd seen to that. Him and Karl had ensured that she could be whatever she wanted. She had been allowed to build herself, experiment on herself, and develop the way she desired. He hadn't made her as a toy, on a whim, but she felt that was how he was treating her. This was awkward, and she found as much as she liked the attention from Miach, it was not the way she wanted it. She didn't want him to experiment, not without asking.

It was her turn to run away. She turned and left him, moving with a quickness down the hall and into the first door she came to, shutting the door behind her. His room. Of course.

She crossed it, sat down on the opposite side of the bed, on the floor and bowed her head.

Romance. Attraction. They were often visually based, were they not? That was all her quick research showed. Perhaps a female form had been wrong. Suggestive even. She closed her eyes, activating a nano-tech program she'd developed on a whim, and had used mostly for altering the color of her hair, eyes, and makeup without doing it manually. It was possible to shift her appearance, which she did, more so than cosmetics. If Miach walked in now, he'd find a boy sitting with his back against Miach's bed, wearing Ari's clothing. It was an easy change, and Ari didn't find himself uncomfortable with it in the least.

He was...she was...was she suggesting that he was taking her comfort from her? She was uncomfortable with this. By the time he was able to wrap his head around this, she was gone. She’d shut herself in his room and Miach remained absolutely still. Why had he done that again? The first time it was believable that it was an experiment, but he could barely even lie to himself. He’d liked it. That’s why he’d done it again. And now she was shut in his room.

Was he some sort of sick man who suddenly just kissed women whenever he wanted? That seemed unlike him, he'd never had the urge to do so before. And look what happened when he tried something like this. He wasn't meant to have romantic interests or life partners or anything. Fucking stupid Miach.

He'd just...give her to Karl then. Forget the whole thing. He could have her and Miach...maybe he'd stay back in Ireland. "Fuck..." he growled under his breath before slamming his fish into the nearest wall. The wall wasn't effected, but his hand was bright red and cut in places. "FUCK." How could he have done that? What the fuck was he thinking?

He stormed over to his bedroom door and slammed a fist on it. "I'm going to Ireland," he said loudly. Fuck if it was two in the morning, he needed to get out of there. He'd just stay at SHIELD headquarters then. He turned on his heel and nearly ran across his flat to get out the front door which he promptly slammed shut behind him. Suddenly, he didn't much care if she disappeared while he was gone. He rubbed a hand over his face and felt his cheeks red hot with embarrassment.
