Apparently it was normal for her to leave Becca with some of the older more responsible students. She was fine with that. If it was normal, and expected, and would be weird if she didn’t, well, she had no problem with it. She needed some alone time, just her. No baby, no Bruce, no one asking her over and over if she was alright.

She could do that if she spent time in the Danger Room. She could lock it out so people couldn’t just walk in on her, if she so chose. Her passcode still worked, and surprisingly, she had scenarios set up by preference. There was one that stood out. It was a very high setting, one she’d never tried before. She’d closed herself away in the Danger Room shortly after breakfast.

The run was hard, tiring and long. Throwing countless encounters at her, almost to the point where she thought she’d collapse.

But it felt good. It had been a long time since she’d been able to do something like this. To wear herself out, but know it was safe to do so. She ached, felt the beginnings of bruises from her training, and the exhaustion of expelling so much light, but… it seemed to help. It calmed some of her stress, some of her anxiety. It was good.

It was well past lunch when the session finally ended, and she sank down to rest on her knees in the middle of the danger room, out of breath and flushed from the exertion.

Bruce was not sure what to do with himself anymore.. Things were different.. better..? No one was chasing him anymore.. no one would be hunting for Tandy, anymore. No one but the usual suspects, at least. If things had really started over, then perhaps Ross, Halflife.. all those who normally went after him.. had been restarted, too, so to speak. At least enough so that they didn't know about Tandy? He didn't know.

Funny, that knowing he hadn't killed those people, just two years ago.. didn't really make the guilt go away. Had it been a dream, that would be another matter, but in some timeline, or reality...it had happened..

He was relieved, though. Just wary that something like that could happen in the future. He was trying to give Tandy some space.. She seemed to have broken down a little, under all the stress.. And he knew he wasn't the most reassuring presence to have around--too pessimistic, too worried, himself. So.. while he hadn't avoided her, not at all, had just made sure she had a couple hours a day, the last couple days, to do what she liked. Or what she needed.. No idea if it helped her or hindered her.

She'd been gone all morning; or so he had heard, when he got to the mansion about an hour prior. He was thinking about asking if she wanted to live at their own place somewhere... He didn't like living away from Becca.. but Tandy's room was a little small, for a whole... well, a whole family.

He had other ideas.. His fingers toyed with a small black box in his pocket while he walked, head down, through the halls of the mansion. Word had it she was in the Danger Room, which was.. if he remembered correctly, one of the first time she'd met Hulk, there.. He'd broken her wrist. With a shake of his head, he tried the door, knowing that if it was locked, it meant she didn't want to be bothered. When it slid open, he stepped in cautiously, unwilling to get in the way of whatever danger might be about.

She hadn’t paid any attention to the time. Not really. She just wanted space, and she was grateful for the way Bruce was allowing her to have it. She knew he wasn’t avoiding her, and she knew that her stress, compounded by his own, would not end well for either of them. It just… worked this way.

Though, maybe it didn’t need to. Finding a kind of emotional release in throwing everything she had at the Danger Room, seemed to help. By no means was it a cure, or solution, but it was a step in the right direction. Of that she was sure. She’d caught her breath by the time she’d heard the soft hiss of the doors opening. Pushing her hair out of her eyes, she looked that way, and was surprised to see Bruce there, in the doorway. She smiled though, because it was a happy sort of surprise.

She pushed herself to her feet, ”Hey.”

"Hey," he greeted, smiling back at her, that nervous quirk of his lips. Nervous for a good reason too, more or less.. He had no idea if he would pop the question today.. He'd only bought the ring that day, but the idea gave him butterflies in his stomach.

He offered a glance around the room. "Training..?" He asked, "Or just.. exercising.." It could have been either one of course, but being as it was the Danger Room, he had a few suspicions as to just which one.. She hadn't done that in a while, to his knowledge..

She moved towards him, arms coming up and around in a hug as she lightly kissed his cheek. It was nice. Everything was safe, and this was… closer to perfect than they’d ever been. Stressful, yes, because she had a feeling it could crumble at any minute but… it was nice knowing, that for right that moment, they were okay. All three of them. Maybe it was burning off all that Light, clearing her head, or something, but it helped. She was… so much calmer now.

”Training… technically. I feel like I haven’t been here in forever.” She said with a bit of a wistful sigh, ”Feels good… you know? Lots of memories here.”

He hugged her back, tight, for a moment, before he let her go. She certainly seemed a little more...calm. Happy? He truly hoped that things stayed how they were now, because he knew it would do Tandy a lot of good, to be able to be back at the Xavier Mansion, and just...not in hiding. That was the main thing.

"Yeah.." He couldn't quite say he understood how heavy exercise or training could bring peace to someone's heart...but he'd always heard that it helped clear the mind. He could at least agree that there were a lot of memories there.

"If you're busy I can come back later.. I was going to ask if you wanted to.. go for coffee or something." He felt a bit like a teenager, asking someone out, instead of talking to the mother of his child, and he wasn't sure why. Probably had something to do with that ring..

The hug was wonderful. Tight and lingering. She could hear just a dash of doubt in his voice, but knew it was probably because he didn’t cope the same way she did. He couldn’t. He couldn’t get angry or upset or overly anxious, so he coped differently. There was nothing wrong with that.

When he offered to come back later, she shook her head. Definitely not, ”No, I really just finished. I don’t even know what time it is…” She blushed slightly, cheeks going just a shade or two pinker than they’d been, ”I lost track of things but coffee sounds great.”

Indeed.. he wasn't about to go punching holographic bad guys to let off steam, it just didn't work that way for him. He smiled when she shook her head, privately relieved.. even if he wasn't particularly surprised.

"It's almost noon.." he said with an amused smile. "Good," he added, about coffee, again, relieved. "Becca's with.. Beast, was it?" He thought he remembered someone saying that, but he could be wrong. He...liked Beast. They had quite a bit in common, more than he would have thought; and he seemed gentle.

Tandy was very clearly surprised to hear that it was nearly noon. She’d been down there since…. Seven thirty? Eight o’clock? She wasn’t sure. No wonder she was exhausted. Four hours of intense training, anyone would be tired to their bones.

When Bruce asked if it was Beast that Becca was with, she nodded, ”She seems to love the fur, and he doesn’t object. Honestly though, I think he’s curious about her.” She said, thoughtful for a minute. She was curious about her own daughter as well. What she may be able to do, what certain things meant for her. The green eyes she’d inherited, but from where? Things Beast had told her not to worry about, and that they’d have playdates.

Tandy was relieved by it, and happy to know that someone responsible would, could, and even wanted to look after the baby.

It was an honest blessing to have so many people around that cared.

Bruce nodded.. Out of all the people who could be watching her, he was privately glad it was Beast.. He was one of the only X-Men Bruce knew personally.. And he sort of trusted him. Trusted him enough, at least.

He gestured for her to lead the way out of the Danger Room, but not before he kissed the side of her head as she passed.

"I am, too..." he admitted. Curious about her. He'd tried not to do too much... sciencing about it all. She was an infant, not a science experiment.. But he still wondered.

She was happy to lead the way, and when he pecked a kiss to her temple she hesitated but only for a second. Either she was just so… absorbed with all the bad, that she hadn’t noticed, or Bruce was never really…. Public about his affection for her. It made her smile and turn a little red in the face as they stepped out of the Danger room and into the hall.

”I just… worry, for her sake. We’ll handle… anything but… I’d like to see her happy.” She said quietly as they walked. She wanted more for their little girl than her mother had ever wanted for her. It was… a cycle she promised, swore to herself, she would not bring down on Becca. Not ever.

Bruce really wasn't.. But he just had a thing about it.. public display of affection. Maybe because of his own upbringing or something.. Sometimes it was overcome though. She'd just about never catch him trying to kiss her with other people around, though..

He fell quiet when she said she worried for her, and nodded in agreement. Of course, that was one of the things they had argued about.. Bruce had insisted that they didn't know what his genes would do to an infant.. Or hers.. "I do, too," he said quietly. If Tandy was worried for her for different reasons, he had no idea.. He knew Tandy would be a good mother. But it seemed they were both concerned about overcoming their own shitty childhoods.

She just really didn’t want to turn into her mother. Already she felt bad, leaving Becca with others so she could… do anything. It felt irresponsible, but Beast, no, Hank had insisted that it was no trouble, and it was perfectly fine. Maybe a little of it was separation anxiety. She’d never been apart from their daughter for more than a few minutes at a time, really. Not until this last week, or so.

After a few minutes of walking silence she reached for his hand, simply to give it a squeeze before letting go, ”Let me clean up. I’ll meet you in the court yard in ten minutes?”

Yep, they both had the same worries.. Though Bruce had gotten over his own fears a little bit.. He still worried he'd end up a bit like his father in some way.. The longer they had Becca, the less that worry lingered, and the more he worried about her having some of Hulk in her. He still wasn't spending as much time with their daughter as he maybe should, but that was something he was working on.. In more than one way.

"Alright," he agreed, squeezing her hand in turn. "No rush." Namely because the longer she took, the longer he had to sit and panic about....things. Good things, but still.

She smiled at him, leaned in and planted another kiss on his cheek before jogging off down the hall to head to her room. True to her word, she wouldn’t be gone more than ten minutes. Just a quick dip in the shower, and a fresh change of clothes, and she was headed to their designated meeting spot.

She had no idea he had good things to worry about.

To her, this just felt like maybe they were both coming to terms with… normalcy. Like it was possible. Like they could accomplish it, and everything would be alright.

She accepted it.

She stepped out of the doors and into the court yard, wearing fresh clothes. A pair of jeans, and a cream colored top. It was coffee, so nothing too special was needed, right?
