Hi, I havnt been on here for ages, work and life etc.

Holly is now 2 1/2 yrs old now and she is a nice little dog. However just lately she has become very aggressive towards some dogs while we are out.
I cannot say what or why, and it is only some dogs.

She is fairly well trained but recall goes out of the window if she is off a lead and we meet another dog. It has got to the point where, just in case, she is on a lead unless i am sure there are no other dogs about.

We often walk with another dog, springer, and she has other doggy friends.

Please can anyone offer any advice? She is fine with people.
thanks :(

Hello Hollycollie. As you may recall I have always maintained that anyone can only give ideas on a |Forum and should not try/pretend to answer the problem. So ideas as follows:

Try and analyse anything that has happened/changed that may account for the new behaviour

Keep her on a long line and make sure that the recall is good. Let her have some slack and then recall her and make it happen by way of the line

Go to the library and borrow a copy of Barbara Sykes book on aggressive dogs and that may give you an answer.

Has she been to the Vet recently? Could there be a health issue?

If none of this helps go on to the Mainline Border Collie website and send them an email explaining the problem and ask for some advice.

Good luck!

Best wishes,

*sheep(

Thanks for your reply, apologies it took me a while to reply to you!

Thats the trouble, i cant think of any changes.
We have a vet visit due at end of month so i will talk to them.

Thanks for book idea too, I will find that up.

I have now found a local collie trainer and we are working on both recall and 'drop' commands with her 6 springers as 'diversions' so that she is working with distractions.

Thanks again
