Title: Flynn - 2 yr old Collie
Description: Very handsome boy
FriendsOfTheAnimalsRCT - April 8, 2010 08:01 PM (GMT)

Flynn is a wonderful, 2 year old Border Collie who has had a bit of a rough time! He was first found as a stray and then was adopted by somebody with mental health problems who should never have had a dog like a collie that needs such time and attention. But he is now with us and we are hoping to find him a wonderful home!
He is a really lovely boy who is very friendly and always has a waggy tail. He is great with kids, dogs and he also is house trained.
He is a confident happy boy who is great meeting dogs and people on or off lead however his recall does need further work.
Flynn travels well in the car and enjoys watching the cars go by out the window! He equally likes to sit quietly indoors and watch the cars through the window but no barking or lunging towards it. Also indoors he is very welcoming of visitors particularly if they give him a tummy rub!
He really is a lovely lad who loves a run but equally is very affectionate.

He has been neutered, chipped and vaccinated. He is currently on foster in South Wales but we re-home across the UK
If you're interested in adopting Flynn, please read our adoption guidelines and procedure;

I am glad flynne is well but may i just say, not all people with mental health cant cope looking after a collie. I suffer with severe drepression and i have days where i dont want to face the really world outdside, but i realise and am also glad that I have Skye and Millie as they make me face it.
Skye is what i call my support dog and she has helped me cope with my illness. She is such a pleasure to have around.
Sorry I just had to say something because people like me with mental health issues get enough bad press.

Hey Caz, I know where you are coming from and I can see why you read it that way. They should probably have avoided classing the person as just 'someone with mental health problems who couldn't cope' but I do think that they meant that whatever problems that individual had meant that a border collie (or I am guessing any dog) wasn't suitable for them.

Thanks Katt. I really appreciate what you said and yes you're right it should have been explained better.
I am at present trying to support a paper that MIND and other mental health organisations want passed by the government and general public that dogs for some people with Mental Health issues can reg their pets as support dogs. I find having my two has opened up a new world for me, and for the first time in 20yrs i can say I have a condition called Depression. I would love Skye to be my support dog as i find going into any public place very hard. I have to set myself a routine and stick to it or if i dont i forget too or wont do things.

That's something that I have supported for quite a while, in the right circumstances of course. I didn't know that they had a paper going to government though, would you be able to link me to more info on it?

Am sorry I didn't define it in a better way but I was not generalising that no person with mental health issues should have a collie. The person in question had issues that meant he shouldn't have had a collie as a dog as he could not give him the time or the attention.
Hope I didn't offend you Caz but that really isn't how I meant it to come across so I apologise
