(PERSONAL STYLE) Rachel tends to wear darker clothing, vintage in style. She doesn't generally give a damn if people don't think she dresses 'cool,' mostly because a lot of her peers haven't dealt with all of the shit she's gone through already in her life. She paints her nails black, mostly because she wants to, not because she wants to fit in with the emos, but because it's something she likes.
Rachel has several scars on her body, though they're usually hidden from view. This collection of scars was gained through years of physical abuse. Then there are the scars that adorn the insides of her forearms. These are self inflicted, gained from years of emotional/mental abuse.

(HISTORY) Rachel was born to a highly mismatched couple with many problems, problems they hoped would be solved by having a child. It turned out, Rachel made things worse. Her father is a weak willed man, and her mother, much younger than Cory, was what some in the family referred to as 'colorful.' Translation - she was mentally unbalanced, though functioning, and after Rachel was born all her craziness bubbled to the surface.
It would have been scandalous for her to see a shrink, to get some help or even some pills to pop, so Rachel became the outlet for all of Chrissy's issues. When Chrissy was sad, she'd cry and cry to Rachel, telling her everything in full, mentally scarring, detail. When she was upset she'd beat Rachel, when she was happy she'd leave Rachel all alone in the house while she rode the brief high of total joy, sometimes not returning home for days.
When Rachel was 10, her godmother Lisa showed up out of the blue for a visit. Lisa knew Chrissy better than Rachel's own father, knew all about her general psychosis, and upon discovering the bruises on Rachel sent the young girl out to play. Rachel didn't have many friends, and hid beneath the window and listened to their arguement. The last thing Lisa said before she stormed out of the house was for Chrissy to get herself under control or put Rachel somewhere where she would be safe.
A few days later, Chrissy killed herself. The surprising part was that her only daughter, whom everyone thought meant the world to Chrissy, didn't so much as shed a tear at the funeral. They passed it off as still being in shock at discovering the body, when in reality Rachel was relieved.
Not long after, they moved from the house Rachel had grown up in, as there were far too many bad memories there. For years Rachel dealt with the stares, the whispers of her classmates and teachers alike as she slowly began to dress more and more 'outrageously,' as her attitude underwent a complete overhaul. Her father, never knowing what to do with her, decided it was too much for her to remain in the school, and shipped her off to Bloomfield Falls, the furthest academy that he could afford to send her to.

(PERSONALITY) For a 17 year old girl, Rachel is quite cynical and bitter about things. Most kids grow up protected from the big bad things in the world, but for Rachel, her parents
were the big bad things of the world. More specifically, her mother was, and her father just tried to ignore it all. Until about a year before her mother's suicide, Rachel would cry herself to sleep every night, unable to make sense of her mother's insanity. There's only so long someone can cry over things that happen to them, and Rachel's learned to hold her tears back all the time now.
Rachel is also fairly angry with the world in general. She understands that what happened to her as a kid wasn't her fault in the least, and therefor blames everyone who could have done something to stop it but didn't. The only one who stood up for her that whole time was her godmother, who she hasn't seen since before her mother died.
Though she'll never admit it, she does feel lonely within the emotional walls she's created for herself. That's not to say she's willing to try opening up more and getting to know her fellow students personally. Rachel is quite at peace with being on her own - nobody can hurt her if she doesn't let them close in the first place, after all.
