Welcome

Black Thorn Academy

Riverstone, a small town in Western Europe, was once a ghost town.

Until a young lady with a dream, breathed life into this place. Where there was once ruin now stood buildings. Where there was no one, now stood a bustling city.

However, with the good comes the bad. And even though metakind once again has its sanctuary, there are outside forces that wish to destroy us.

Some students will rise up to defend against the threats, while others will form their own rebellious plans.

Will you be a hero? Or a villain?

Sector 7 had been quiet for months. And for the reminder of the Lost Children it was too quiet. And that meant Sector 7 was gearing up for something. Something big. Which is why talking with the Reavers and the Vindicators seemed like a good idea. After all, when it came to Sector 7 everyone was on the same page.

Derrick sat off to the side, as he usually did. The gentle observer. He watched as Sam paced around nervously, his sister texted, Dean smoked and Zoe worried. He sighed. The Earth was doomed.

"Stop with the pacing. It's giving me a headache." Dean snapped at Sam.

Dare chuckled. "Doing long division gives you a headache."

Dean smiled. "Math is hard."

Derrick turned to his sister when he heard her phone snap shut. "Sis, you know they have these new things called smart phones?"

Devon gave her brother the finger. "Bro, did you know they had this new thing called shutting the hell up?"

"She was texting her boyfriend." Zoe said a matter-of-factly.

The look on Devon's face was enough to make Derrick and Dean chuckle. "You have a boyfriend? You?"

Devon rolled her eyes and flipped Dare off for the second time. "He's not my boyfriend. He's my friend... who's just happens to be male..."

"... who you just happen to make out with when you go sneaking off." Zoe said. Derrick was shocked.

"Wait... just you've just made out with this guy? What are you, 12?"

"Look, she's blushing..."

"I hate you all. 'Cept for Sam. I don't hate Sam."

Sam smiled and for a moment, Dare thought he'd come to Devon's aid. But then he spoke. "What I want to know is why we haven't met this guy."

"I met him. He's gorgeous. And she's totally in love with him."

"Yup. Hate you. Especially, Sammy."

Silence filled the air. And it seemed the five-man band had run out of steam. Until Derrick burst into a rolling chuckle. "Devon, has a boyfriend. That sh!t is priceless."

“All right, you called us and we came,” Mad told the group as he and his people walked into the clearing. Kirk just flipped off Devon, and then did a flip in the air.

Orin approached with her Reavers by her side. They were ready to talk business as well. Orin wasn’t sure how much business she would be able to do, especially now with the baby on the way. It might make her a liability. Still, this was her team and she was going to lead it as best she could, however she could.

When Kirk flipped Devon off, it was Dean and Derrick that took a step forward. Kirk was on this sh!t for a multitude of reasons, but chiefly among them was that fact that he existed. However, when they looked at Devon she made no move toward Kirk, in fact she had ignored him completely. So the two boys figured it wasn't their place to put this delta bravo in his place.

Sam and Zoe went silent. Sam because he had once been captain crazy, himself. And Zoe because she hadn't expected Maddox to be so abrasive. And the mentalists' defenses went up without them realizing it. Which left things to Devon. The least diplomatic of the five.

"I want to take out Sector 7. Once and for always. The Vindicators and the Reavers are apparently who I need to talk to in order to make that happen, and I've heard that you guys could always use more bodies." Devon's tone didn't convey how personal this was for her. Out of the original lost children, only a handful reminded. And after losing Roman, Devon wasn't going to let Sector 7 do this again to anyone. "So, I wanna talk about an alliance."

Kirk just laughed when he saw Derrick and Dean flank Devon’s side. It was too comical for words. Did they really think they would beat him in a fight? Hilarious! Kirk just wheeled around on one foot and bounced over their heads and back to Maddox and the other Vindicators.

“And exactly who would we be aligning ourselves with? From what I understand…Sam is no longer a Marauder…and you’ve created a new faction? I just want to be clear on all the details, before me and mine discuss it,” Maddox told Devon.

Orin knew what was going on. She would let Devon talk this out between herself and Maddox. Orin was already going to agree on an alliance on one condition. So she waited for Devon to explain things to Maddox and the other Reavers before she said anything.

"It's called the New League," Zoe replied, timidly. She was bold at school but this hero business was new to her.

"Sammy had a mental virus. Same as me. Same as all of Dr. Death's 'special children.' So we he got fixed up, the Marauders were no more. So with no Marauders, the Outcasts didn't need to exist. So we started the New League. In honor of my great-grandmother... You prolly know her as Meadow Washington. But her real name was Alys Ethane. And Sammy and Dean's great-grandfather, Clayton Thomas North." Devon explained.

Then Dean took over. "We're not as brash as the Blood Pack. Not as formal as the Brotherhood. And we're not as flashy as the Vindicators. But we wanna be heroes just the same. So long as we don't have to wear capes."

"We want to protect humans and metas from threats terrestrial and extraterrestrial. We know the Reavers don't want a place in that alliance. But we all share a common enemy. Sector 7." Sam told them.

"It's personal for us. Of that there's no doubt. But we wanna make sure that what happened to us, doesn't happen to anyone else." Derrick added.

"So... you guys think that's something you wanna be a part of?" Devon asked.

Maddox nodded and listened. He looked over at his second in command to make sure that they were on the same page. It was apparent that they were. “Consider us allies, then. And I cannot give you any guarantees on the capes issue, Dean.”

“The Reavers can agree to that. We’ll be allies till the Sector is destroyed, but then most of us will walk away to pursue other interests. And we’re joining on the condition, that Heller is mine. Anyone else catches her, they bring her alive to answer to me,” Orin told Devon and her people matter of factly. It was personal to her. It went further than that. If someone tried to take her kill from her; they would get an enemy for life. Orin wasn’t someone one wanted as their enemy either.

"I've got a condition too. Kirk plays nice or Kirk can sit this one out." Derrick said. He was tired of everyone picking on his sister. They could forgive Sam for being evil. They could forgive Orla of her utter lack of regard for the feelings of others. They could forgive Roman's weakness. And the could forgive his own lapse in judgement. But trying to start over with Devon... THAT was just too impossible. Dare for a long time said he wasn't going to get involved. However, he thought it had gone on far long enough.

"I think I'd wear a cape if it would get Kirk to act his age and not his shoe size." Dean said with a shrug. He too was getting tired of the antics of the "We Hate Devon Club."

"Kirk's maturity level is not my concern. So long as he can work with me and my people, I don't give a flying f#(& how he feels or what he says about me." Devon said, neutrally before nodding to Orin.

"I'll be bring Heller to you alive or die trying... But I want Dr. Death Jr." Devon said. She met Orin's gaze but didn't smile. She just wanted Orin to understand that it was just as personal for Devon as it was for her.

Kirk frowned, but then just smirked when Dare told him to play nice. Kirk just twirled and looked over at Maddox and sighed. “Fine, I’ll play nice. How come the Hex children aren’t here? They’ll be able to take out this whole thing in one fell swoop. Sides, I’ve got some catching up to do with some of them. And what about the Lost boys? Devo? I’m sure if you talked to Ryder he’d be more than happy to send in some of his people. Since you two are close like that,” Kirk asked, matter of factly. He had a devious grin on his face as he looked at Devon. He was still heartbroken about Roman. But apparently he had found other ways to amuse himself.

Maddox laughed, yeah, Kirk was a…mystery. But he was a good person to have around. He was an incredibly powerful shape-shifter. Heck, Mad had even seen him fool high level telepaths into believing he was someone else. Needless to say, Maddox was impressed.

[b] “Consider it a deal. But Kirk has a point. If we’re doing this, more allies would be helpful. I don’t know about these Lost Boys, but I can certainly see if my aunts and uncles would be willing to lend a hand. The less casualties we have the better. Unless there will be a problem working with either of them?”

Devon sighed. Where to begin? "Kirk... You and me, we'll have a talk after this is over. There's some stuff you have to know. And I don't want to talk about it in front of people that don't know the whole story like you and I do." She didn't like Kirk. But she respected him enough that there was some things that they needed to talk about.

"The Hex kids have more important things to do. And they hate me. And... Wait... Isn't Rye completely bat-sh!t? I mean I know I'm not one to throw stones but last time I heard, Rye was super crazy." Devon smirked. Ryder was always a little off. After what Orla did to him he got... worse.

"It's good to have you all on board. And yeah, Wheeler has a point. (Don't let it go to your head, Kirk.) But I'm not exactly Miss Congeniality here. People don't seem to warm up to me.." Devon confessed.

Kirk wasn’t sure what Devon was talking about. A part of him felt she was lying about whatever this was and planned on trying to attack him when they were alone. Yes, it seemed like something she would do. Kirk thought this turning over a new leaf thing was funny. So, he was expecting the worse. Kirk laughed when Devon called Rye bat-sh!t, oh, if only she knew the whole story. Kirk continued to laugh to himself for a few more moments.

“They may have more important things to do, but it wouldn’t hurt to ask. From what I understand they were in Sector 7 too. That might be enough reasoning to get them to join up, if not, than at least we can say we tried,” Orin replied to Devon. She wanted to make sure that they had as many allies as they could. If they were going to take down Sector 7 they would need more powerful people, more than the handful they had here.

“Yep. Maybe Devo can go talk to the Tribe and figure things out. I’ll make sure that the Hex kids know what is going on, more importantly that Devon is talking to Rye…considering their history,” Kirk told the group with a slightly evil grin.

Devon almost wished some days that she had died instead of Roman. It would have made things easier. She would have been dead. Not much else to worry about when you're dead. Well... Devon glanced at Dean. She belonged in the Pit. Not Dean.

"One of my compatriots'll check with the Hex kids." Devon finally said. She didn't see it doing any good. Devon was the devil in Orla's mind and maybe she had earned that title. Didn't change the fact that Devon was trying. Still, she had also read enough comics and watched enough T.V. to know that just because the killer has reformed doesn't wash away past sins. Devon was marked.

"Me and Sam'll talk to them. In the meantime, let's let Kirk and Devon hash things out. Maddy, I'll be the first round." Dean said, he looked at Dare and nodded. The Porter created a portal to Cartias.

Kirk watched everybody and waited awkwardly for Devon to do or say something. He continued to wait and glanced at her. He made sure that his power mimicry was up, in case she started trying to use her powers on him. He mimicked apathy, and regenerative healing, just in case she started to get handsy or whatever.

“So, what did my soul mate have to say to you instead of me before he passed?” Kirk asked, a little defensively. He didn’t really want to do this with Devon. Because he hated her as much as Orla, probably even more. But that went without saying.

Flick... Swoosh...

There was nothing more soothing than the sound of a match igniting. Devon cupped the flame against the elements as she lit the end of her cigarette. She found that the difference in saying the right thing or the wrong thing was just a matter of taking a few more moments to collect one's thoughts.

Devon kept her distance from Kirk. She wasn't here to fight. And she didn't want to argue about who Roman liked more, when the answer was obvious and had always been obvious.

"He told me that he could never have loved me." Devon said. That part was true enough. "For a lot of reasons... But he said the most important reason besides his siblings was you. He loved you until the day he died. And he wanted me to tell you that..."

Hopefully, Kirk would be happy believing that. Hopefully Devon had sold the fiction well enough to be believed as truth. It still hurt like it was the truth. And hey, maybe Devon knew Roman better than she thought and maybe it was the truth. "For what it's worth, Kirk, which I'm sure is nothing, I am sorry... I wanted to square things up between us before we worked together. You deserved to know the truth of how he felt about you and how he felt about me."

Kirk wasn’t completely sure how to react to what Devon had said. He just stared at her blankly for a few moments. He suspected an ulterior motive. He just couldn’t figure out what it was. But he knew what she said was the truth. Roman did love him more than he loved anybody else. Now Kirk was just furious that those he blamed for taking Roman away from him.

“I always knew the truth, Devon. And I am sorry too, I’ve been quite mean over the years. When the one we really should have been blaming was Orla. I have no doubt within my mind that it’s her fault Roman is dead. Well, hers, Godric’s and Oria’s. If they weren’t so powerful I would take them out myself…but I am sure Orla would just do to me what she did to Rye, so I think I’ll just avoid that one. But somebody needs to avenge his death,” Kirk replied to Devon, sorrowfully.

Devon studied Kirk for a moment. She couldn't believe what he was saying. And of course because of that, Devon immediately thought Kirk was playing some kind of game. Still, she was trying to mend broken bridges, so Devon knew she had to tread lightly.

"Kirk... I know you're hurting. I know want that kind of pain is like. But I don't blame Orla or Godric or Oria. I blame myself. I should have been able to save him. We're friends once. And if I could, I would trade places with him." She sighed. "Maybe, I should find someone with that kind of mojo. A life for a life. You get Roman back. I get to die. Everybody wins."
