The Martells are the descendants of Mars, a warrior that fought for the Valerians and his bride the Japanese Princess, Amaterasu. Mars was lord to a vassal house sworn to the ruler of Eynalio. Mars outlived his homeland, Atlantis and found himself on the shores of a very foreign land, called Ashihara which translated into the Land of the Sun's Origin. Mars was taken in by the ruling family and Mars offered his loyalty. After many years, Mars' service would be honored when the King he served offered his daughter as Mars' bride. He accepted and thus the Martell Line was founded.

The members of his line are said to have inherited Amaterasu's skill on the battlefield and Mars' love of broken things and lost causes. The name and title of this line is inherited by the oldest surviving child without regard of gender.

History: Mars was born to the son of one of the bannermen of the Valerian Kings. Though his family's history with the Valerians is shotty at best, given their centuries old blood feud. However, after the Warlords of Camulus bended the knee and swore fealty to house Valerian, they were treated fairly well. And Mars serviced the Valerian family for years before the fall of Atlantis. He managed to escape, washing ashore in a land, called Ashihara which translated into the Land of the Sun's Origin. Mars was taken in by the ruling family and Mars offered his loyalty. After a few years his master's hot-blood son threatened to destroy his family if he was not given his birthright and kidnapped his sister. Mars would come to her rescue and would be honored when the King he served offered her as Mars' bride.

History: Amaterasu was the eldest of twins. And therefore by right would inherit the family name and title. This angered Takamanohara, her brother, who kidnapped her, holding her hostage in exchanged got allowing him his birthright. However, Mars would come to Amaterasu's aid... Late, as was his way, as Amaterasu had dispatched her guards and subdued her brother. Tsukuyomi was stripped of his powers and Amaterasu was married off to Mars.
