OK, something I've been thinking about lately.
The NX-01 Enterprise is Starfleet's first starship out there exploring so there aren't any Starbases for it to dock at and re-supply. And at this time there aren't any food replicators..So where did Chef get all the food from? He had to feed the whole crew didn't he? Did they take in supplies at various planets but it was just never mentioned or shown on any of the shows? That must be what happened..I know they picked up various pieces of equipment that Trip need in Engineering from time to time..No mention of food provisions though..They certainly didn't take enough provisions for 4 years..You think occasionally Starfleet would send a ship out to re-supply Enterprise?? Like in 'Carbon Creek', Captain Archer shares a bottle of wine with T'Pol and Trip..Where did that come from? Did he bring that from Earth and was keeping it for a special occasion? Or did he pick it up on an alien planet?
I've wondered about that too. I just assumed that they had a HUGE food storage area with both fresh and freeze-dried food. Eventually they would have to re-stock, but what if they couldn't get back for a long time? Maybe Starfleet had supply ships sent out to wait for them at different locations?
They could always get food supplies from other planets, but I wonder how Chef would know how to prepare the alien food, and how to do it so it would be safe to eat? I wish they had done more about it.
There was one episode where Archer and Trip were invited to eat with an alien man. They had some nasty-looking stew with...well...the "private parts" of a male animal. Needless to say, Archer and Trip were worried about eating it. That made me wonder what they'd do if they had to re-stock their food supply with alien food.
Abut the wine - I thought it might have been a "secret stash" that was sneaked on board. After all, Starfleet wouldn't want anyone drinking on the job! :lol:
I'm sure that they have some way to store a vast amount of food somewhere on board. They went to Earth a lot on ENT, so they would probably re-supply while they were back at Starfleet. But they could have taken supplies from other sources
