Title: Dr. Who in the US
Athena28 - March 12, 2006 04:28 AM (GMT)
Looks as if the new Dr. Who finally premieres this Friday night on SciFi. As most people I know, in the UK, have been buzzing about it for a while, I think it may be worth giving it a try.
ChrisJEade - March 12, 2006 06:33 AM (GMT)
You will not be disappointed - it's excellent!!
SpaceTigger - March 12, 2006 12:49 PM (GMT)
I've been waiting for this..I am definately going to watch..
Athena28 - March 13, 2006 09:24 PM (GMT)
Me too. I'm going out Friday night but I'll definitely record it. My UK friends are so excited we're finally getting to see it & now I am too!

:thud: OMG !!
Gamera!! - You don't know what you're missing!!
I grew up with the original series of Dr Who in the 1960's - it was great then!!
The new series, which you are about to watch, is to the original series what Star Trek NG is to TOS.

So I d/l Chris' clip. I'm doing something else when it begins to play. Then I hear the theme for BBC News (we get it each evening) and I wonder what the heck is going on? Very clever :D
SpaceTigger - March 18, 2006 05:31 PM (GMT)
I very much enjoyed watching the new Dpctor Who last night..I think this is going to be another interesting Sci Fi show for me to watch. What did you all think of it ??
BakulaBabe - March 24, 2006 09:30 AM (GMT)
I saw the premier and the second episode tonight on Sci-fi, and I love it! Also, I'm wild about the new Doctor! :flowers: . I didn't like the series much before (except when Jon Pertwee was the Doctor), so I'm surprised by how much I like the new Dr. Who. :tigger:
Athena28 - March 31, 2006 11:14 PM (GMT)
I'm not loving it. And I'm wondering why? The first ep. (with the mannequins) didn't grab me. I liked the concept of going 5 billion years into the future (the 2d ep.) but I didn't find the rest of the plot particularly interesting. I'm trying the next ep. (Dickens) & will see how that goes.
I'm disappointed b/c so many people from the UK told me how great it was. I will keep on trying, tho! All those people can't be wrong ;)
BakulaBabe - April 2, 2006 08:54 AM (GMT)
Doctor Who is an odd show. I didn't like it much when I first saw it many years ago, so I just watched it occasionally. I didn't start really liking it until Jon Pertwee took over as The Doctor, and I wasn't too keen about it after he left. Now with Christopher Eccleston as The Doctor, I love the show! It's still odd, though.
ChrisJEade - April 12, 2006 06:11 AM (GMT)
If you're outside the UK - are you still enjoying Dr Who?
Over here we're about to have the new, new series start this Saturday!!
Wooo!! Hooo! I can't wait!!

BakulaBabe - April 15, 2006 08:17 AM (GMT)
It's called Torchwood. Here's a link for it...
Doctor Who spin-off made in Wales
ChrisJEade - April 17, 2006 09:48 PM (GMT)
Surprise!!
Didn't know that...! And they're not advertising it on TV - which is strange!?
Thanks BB.

Yes, there is a new Doctor for next season and that's the season we're watching right now in the UK.
I can tell you that if you thought the last Doctor was good - you will not be disappointed in the new one !!
BakulaBabe - June 11, 2006 08:50 AM (GMT)
I was very sad to see the change  , so I hope the new Doctor will be as good as I've heard.

I was very sad and couldn't believe it when The Doctor 'died' ! :frown:

I thought - wow Christopher Eccleston makes such a great Doctor... there's no way there can ever be another Doctor as good as that... but... there is and they did it again !!
David Tennant's portrail as the Tenth Doctor is great !!
Of course the success of Dr Who does depend on good acting but, like Star Trek, I believe the show works well because of the excellent creative staff - especially the writers !!!

Oh wow..I hate to see her go..She's really good as Rose..The big question is weather they are going to kill off the character or not..Guess we'll have to wait until the season 2 finale to find out..
Athena28 - June 18, 2006 01:30 AM (GMT)
Wow!
To be honest, she wasn't my fave anyway (but I really really don't care for her mother or boyfriend). I really like the Doctor (who quit) and Jack. I don't think she'll be so hard to replace.
I wonder if we're even going to get Season 2, tho. I'm not sure it did that well in the ratings.
ChrisJEade - July 8, 2006 04:20 PM (GMT)
Looking forward to Dr Who on BBC 1 this evening.
The Daleks and the Cybermen wage war across the Earth whilst the Doctor faces an even greater dilemma - does saving the world mean the death of Rose Tyler?
Can't wait !!
SpaceTigger - July 9, 2006 01:25 AM (GMT)
I am so looking forward to the next season of Doctor Who over here..I'm wondering if I'll like the new Doctor..Hard for me to imagine he'll be as good as the last one.. But time will tell..

I thought exactly the same thing... but there's no need to worry - you'll like the new Doctor !!
:banghead: My DVD recorder messed up yesterday (or I did) it didn't record Dr Who ! :realmad:
I was looking forward to that episode too !! Huff !!
Going to have to wait for the DVD to be released now !! :frown:
BakulaBabe - July 10, 2006 03:31 AM (GMT)
I was surprised to hear the news about the Rose Tyler character. I wasn't too keen about her, but I was starting to get used to her. Hmm, a new Doctor this season, then a new sidekick next season. Dare I ask "what's next"?
SpaceTigger - September 29, 2006 11:51 PM (GMT)
It looks like Doctor Who is back on the Sci Fi channel tonight..
BakulaBabe - October 1, 2006 06:15 AM (GMT)
I saw both episodes, and I thought they were fantastic! :yahoo: I love David Tennant as The Doctor. As with all the previous incarnations, he's the same character, but slightly different. Some portrayals stink, some are ok, and some are great. IMHO David Tennant is definitely great!
And he's kinda cute too! :naughty:

Hey..the Doctor is back on the Sci Fi channel tonight with new episodes... :wow:
BakulaBabe - July 7, 2007 07:24 AM (GMT)
I missed the first half-hour, because I forgot it was on, and now I'm seeing some creepy, red, multi-legged, talking spider-like creature.
AAARRRGGGHHH!!! :runaway:
Athena28 - July 9, 2007 11:35 PM (GMT)
I decided to give it another shot b/c Rose was gone. I didn't mind her but couldn't stand her boyfriend and mother.
Well, I didn't care for the bride
who I hear is full-time next year instead of Martha who is reduced to a secondary role
at all. I found her too loud. I did like the new girl, Martha, tho.
Still don't love the villains. Just feel the costumes, etc. are not up to snuff w/other Scifi series.
