With repairs underway for the Juno, Selena was able to organize some R&R for the crew. Their options however were limited with most towns being run down. The closet that wasn't the military port however was a town near the border of the ZAFT and Earth Alliance territory. It was the most developed and often avoided direct fighting due to the infrastructure it had. That didn't mean it wasn't fought over, but it meant overt action generally wasn't taken. This let smaller militia groups muscle in and often meant fighting was fought through them.

Still it was generally safe enough if a person kept their affiliation to themselves. Thus with a few jeeps of the Juno's crew rolling in with the cover story of being journalists. Rain got to be the officer in charge of this little safari, while Takumi adjusted his coat in hopes of covering up and stay covered up during this little adventure, he was more concerned for Rain however. "Alright remember, we're journalists got it? We don't need to start anything while we're trying to enjoy ourselves, if trouble does pop up we got the cavalry back on the Juno waiting for us."

With the early morning sun up high it gave the group plenty of time to explore or get into trouble depending on what they had planned. Takumi himself had made sure he was armed, while a quick glance towards Laura who had somehow weaseled her way into the Juno's mobile suit units nodded back at him. The only worry really left now was some of the younger pilots or crew and if they would get into trouble.

Sanya meanwhile in another jeep rubbed her eyes to wake up, as she was still on her night cycle. She wasn't yet assigned a duty time so, she was trying to stay on everyone else's cycle for now, but that meant having to adjust to this heat and the sun blaring down on her.

Michiru had been up almost all night working on something important for ZAFT and then was told that he had to go with the group. He wasn't even briefed on what it was. Although he didn't really care either. He would just relax and not worry until he had too. He was in his normal black suit like clothing, looking fancy. It was a big mistake because of how hot it was out. So while in the jeep, he just kept his eyes closed thinking about the many other things he could have been doing, until he heard some shuffling next to him. It was the woman named Sanya. It seemed as if she was tired and wanted to sleep. Michiru just decided to mess with her some.

"Sleeping is for the weak!" He said to her in a rather strict tone. While he sounded serious, if she were to look at him, he had a smile on his face, acting playful. Most of the time all he would be was strict. This time, he just felt like relaxing and having some fun. "Ah, I am just messing with you. I don't think we have been properly introduced yet, have we?" Michiru said to her as he held out his hand. He took one look at the woman and decided that she would make for some good conversation. "The name is Michiru Nagae! My parents thought I was a girl when I was born, so they gave me a girlish name!!" He explained to her as he blushed slightly out of embarrassment.

He was hoping that the woman could keep him busy through out the day so that he didn't have to be bored. It wasn't every day that he had the chance to meet a cute girl either. It seemed to be a win-win for him. He took notice to how uncomfortable the ride was. The jeeps that the military had were never meant for comfort. He couldn't wait to get out and do whatever it was that needed to be done.

C.E. 78, January 23rd; 0615 hours

After touching down on Earth, Fred has had the 360th running drills, and getting used to moving around with the gravity, he'd gotten used to space himself so it was as much for him as it was for them. On top of that they'd been sent out on a few patrols, though aside from Carver's team getting into a small engagement with some of the locals nothing to eventful had happened. The carrier they were waiting on, the CVN[N]-79 Meredith R. McKay, wouldn't arrive for a couple more days so they didn't have much to do aside from adding to the patrols. So they'd been lucky enough to get a few days off, they had three full days of liberty and Fred had no intention to let that go to waste.

They'd been lent some transport, just a couple cars that they kept around so people could go on liberty, they were civilian make of course so as to avoid anyone being identified as OMNI soldiers. But they were under the guise of being part of a PMC, so they were allowed to carry weapons on them, even if only a pistol and knife. They weren't expected to run into trouble, so carrying anything bigger was out of the question. Not that he minded, Fred knew how to use both of them and he'd rather not attract attention to himself. He'd been sitting in the back of the car, with Carmine doing the driving, and it wasn't a long drive, only about thirty seven minutes. Not bad considering how the ride could have gone.

Still, he couldn't get over how much quieter it seemed compared to when he was last here, even though if anything the situation in Africa had gotten worse since then. Maybe more secretive, but worse all the same. ZAFT had basically taken over, but there were a few groups that still opposed them, but they still weren't friendly to either OMNI or Orb either. These people had no idea what they were trying to do anyway, fighting any one of the three was a bad idea, these people attacked all three. What were they trying to do? Just show how determined they were? Lot of good that'd do them when they're dead and their country was burning.

Still, after Carmine parked the car Fred got out and stretched a bit, Carmine headed straight to the bar, just like he'd told them he would or what looked like the bar anyway, they all had headsets, so they could keep in contact, and they weren't allowed to go anywhere alone, so Fred had Second Lieutenant Anthony Bridges with him and Carmine had Second Lieutenant Teresa Mannings. The young man was one of the rookies that had been assigned to the unit, Fred knew he was from the UK, but didn't know much else about him. So now would probably be a good time to get to know him a bit.

"Make sure you keep drinking water while we're here Anthony. North Carolina was hot and I still need to drink a lot when I'm here." Fred said to the other man, while looking around them to see who posed a threat or not a good number of people were armed, some openly, the others either held themselves like they were carrying, likely out of habit, or they were actually armed. Nothing too big, a couple old clunky rifles here and there. But no one wanted to get a fight started, the militants here didn't want to draw attention from the military forces.

"Yup, I had an issue with not drinking enough two days ago, believe me I've learned my lesson for now. Let's just hope that when we get to it, we don't drink so much alcohol that we get dehydrated anyway." he said to Fred, he tried to keep it casual, since they were a PMC and not in the military as far as the cover story went, but he still wasn't comfortable calling Fred by his first name. Fred simply nodded while starting to walk away from the car, he was trying to think of something to talk about, but for now figured he could distract himself and Bridges by walking through the town.

Angelus Karath---

Angelus yawned before taking another drink of his coffee. The warmness of the coffee was a nice reprieve from the bite of the morning cold. He appreciated his little cup of heaven for a second longer before picking up his data pad from off the table and moved across the room to a small row of monitors.

“Do we eyes on them?” Angelus asked as he slightly leaned over the shoulder of one of the operators to get a better look. He personally wished they could have bigger monitors but unfortunately bigger monitors simply meant drawing more attention to themselves when they actually went to move the damn things.

“Yes commander, the Morris team is surveying them from a safe distance.” The operator replied.

Angelus took another sip from his cup before replying, “Patch it through.”

A live feed of four armed people disembarking a vehicle came up on the screen. Angelus studied it for a moment taking in all the details he could. Normally a group like this wouldn’t have even caught attention in the city since armed men came to and from the city on an hourly basis all ranging from PMCs to forces of the local warlords. However Angelus had made it a point to at least make some registration of any PMCs moving through the area. This was simply because it was Angelus’s mission to eliminate all ZAFT opposition in the area and keeping up to date intelligence on any forces that might come to the aide of these opposition forces was key. This group just happened to be flagged by an informant as they came into the city.

“Do we have any ideas who they are?” The operator asked.

“My guess is OMNI.” Angelus replied.

The operator didn’t give off any sign of surprise but did ask, “You sure? They could just be PMC. I mean they’re too obvious to be Special Operations.”

Angelus thought about it for a second before saying, “It’s possible but their appearance honestly tells me different. I see these guys being line grunts as opposed to Spec opps or Mercs.”

“Are we going to do something about them then?”

Angelus straightened himself and said, “Nope, just register them in the system and cut surveillance. As of right now trying to deal with them would just serve to compromise our own mission. Besides I doubt they’re here for us.”

“Why do you say that commander?”

“Because the alliance is well aware of the kind of operations ZAFT is running in the territories surrounding Victoria. Since they’ve really yet to even try and deal with us I think it’s not unreasonable to assume that they simply don’t care. They have enough military strength in the area to easily deal with uprisings or insurrections and a firm grip on the territories that lie within their zone of defense.”

“I guess so,” the operator said in concession

“Have the Morris team pull back and return. Go back to monitoring traffic of our target areas.” Angelus said before downing the rest of his cup. He then walked from the room and down a couple halls before heading into the hideout’s small kitchen.

Sitting around the table where a couple of his men dressed looking like PMCs like just about everyone else in the building. In way their cover actually wasn’t a cover at all. They really were providing security for a wealthy family whom had a strong desire to see ZAFT in full control of the region. However only a small portion of his men were actually assigned to this task, most were spread out over the course of several towns and cities throughout the region executing the surveillance mission or training forces of the friendly warlords. All together Angelus was responsible for some two hundred operators, six mobile suits, and a small assortment of support vehicles though only around forty operators where currently with him.

The two sitting at the table where enjoying a hot meal after just coming off a mission. They were still clad in their gear which included two unloaded carbines resting on the table. Though the magazines for the weapons could be found lying not more than a few inches away from the magazine wells along with several stuffed in each man’s mag pouches.

The two gave Angelus an informal nod as he walked in and resumed their hard earned meal. Angelus poured another cup and was busy adding his crème and sugar when one spoke up saying, “Hey Commander, I was talking to Warren a few minutes ago and he said some idiot commander cleared a bunch of pilots to take leave in the city. Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying I’m envious or anything but he also said that command told us to baby sit them.”

Angelus smiled as he shook his head and said, “Yeah though it wasn’t actually an order. Command strongly urged us to look after them while they’re on leave in the city. Though they don’t actually know we’re even here. When we move out to meet it’ll be under the guise of security sent from the local garrison.”

The operator gave something of a pissed off chuckle and said, “Well we all know that a request from command is just a polite way of saying bend over and take it.”

The other operator spoke up with defeat echoing in his voice in saying, “Fucking hell, this is going to be a long ass fucking day.”

Angelus simply nodded as the two operators continued their stream of griping. Although Angelus had to admit he pretty much felt the same as his men did.

Melissa---

Melissa cursed to herself as the jeep hit another bump on what was turning out to be dismally poor maintained roads. In all honesty she hadn’t wanted to go on the outing. She felt that being so close to Alliance territory on top of being in such a loosely organized region was just a recipe for disaster. However a few of the friends she had made on the Juno had persisted in bothering her about taking leave until she agreed to do so just to end the annoyance. Little had she known that none of which were actually present on the trip and had merely urged her to do so because she had the opportunity. She did have to admit that actually seeing Earth from a nonmilitary related view was actually kind of pleasant.

Her attention was pulled from the scenery as Sanya began to stir to her side. Melissa actually hadn’t had much opportunity to talk with her roommate on account of different shifts.

Melissa reached into the bag that was at her feet and pulled out an energy drink. She had brought a couple along with her simply for the caffeine, a substance that most military personnel lived on, along with a small assortment supplies and water.

She extended the drink out to the sleepy girl and said, “Here it’s kind of on the warm side but it should be enough to pep you up.”

Sanya turned slowly towards the male voice as he said something about sleep. Unaware of the serious tone she rubbed at her eyes trying to wake up more only for him to reveal he was joking. It took a moment for Sanya to process what Michiru had asked, to which Sanya shook her head as she began to focus on him. The introduction was rather odd with the last bit of how he got his name, but Sanya didn't seem to react much to the odd name.

Pointing to herself, the girl mustered a bit of brain power as her mind was slowly adjusting to the teen's pace. "Sanya." She didn't mean to be anti social, but she wasn't used to talking to people too much, not to mention she was still in nap mode.

The arrival of a drink from her roommate however distracted the girl from the talk and she graciously accepted the energy drink. "Thank you Melissa." Setting it down on her lap, Sanya took a second to realize where the tab was and oriented the can properly before trying to open it. In her state she couldn't muster much strength so she struggled with the tab before finally getting the drink open and allowed her to sip at the contents, which would need a moment to rouse the girl more.

--Takumi

"I really don't think it's wise for you to wear that here." Takumi spoke with a rather dry tone as he fixed the 'press' armband to his left arm, while his ID fluttered slightly thanks to the open top of the jeep.

He of course meant, Rain's business skirt which she'd suggested to wear due to the dry heat and fill in for a reporter's role. The captain looked a bit perplexed about Takumi's worry and looked towards him and his more male conservative outfit. "I don't see the problem Kagezuchi, it's much better then sweating all day it's fine don't worry."

Takumi kept the rest of his objections down for now and glanced around as they entered the city and the better paved roads. Although a pot hole, which made the jeep dip and jump told him it wasn't that much better.

Michiru looked at the woman, Melissa, give Sanya an energy drink and realized that he might have forgotten a drink himself. He shuffled through his shoulder bag, looking to see if he packed any drinks and once he remembered that he left his water behind, he threw his bag to the floor of the Jeep. He sighed and put his head upwards, as if looking at the sky. He moved his hand to his face and put his palm against it. He then moved his hand upwards and through his hair. ~Alright, no need to worry. I am sure the second woman will have another one that she could hand over.~ Michiru thought to himself before turning his head towards the woman named Melissa and gave an embarrassed look towards her.

"Hey, uh..Melissa, right? I'm Michiru, but I am sure you heard me say that already! I was wondering, may I have one of those delicious looking energy drinks? If you can spare one. I will even pay for one." He wasn't sure how the woman would act towards him but she didn't seem to be one to mess around. Of course, Michiru's judge of character wasn't the greatest. He only hoped that she would be so kind to oblige. He took a moment for her to answer him and thought about what he should do once they get to the town/city.

He wasn't sure as to what would be happening since his participation was just so sudden. All he knew is that he had to bring some kind of protection; that protection was located on his right hip in the form of a P99 pistol. He also had three extra clips in a triple pouch holder on his left hip. He felt uneasy about going into this town/city since he knew almost nothing about it. He should have been briefed before doing such a thing but an order was an order, all Michiru could to was follow his orders; kind of like a dog.

Angelus---

Angelus was busy listening to the two continue their respective rants when an operator walked in and said, “Commander the Juno convoy has arrived within the outskirts of the city.”

Angelus gave a small sigh before saying, “Alright go collect up Johns, Mendoza, and Turk. Tell them to meet me in the garage; we’ll be heading out in Alpha 3.”

The operator nodded and went on his way while Angelus downed his coffee, waved bye to the two operators at the table, and secured his gear. His weaponry consisted of a pistol which was placed in a hip holster, a ZAFT assault rifle modified to Special Forces specifications, and a combat knife. He also had a load carrying vest with six double mag pouches mounted to its front, two frag grenade pouches, two flash bang pouches, two smoke grenade pouches, and some miscellaneous gear ranging from 550 cord to two canteens. He also grabbed his Special Forces standard helmet. The helmet would be a dead giveaway but he intended to keep it in the vehicle, only bringing it just in case.

With gear in hand he headed down the stairs and to the garage finding two men already waiting by the vehicle and the last coming down just moments after Angelus. After the last man arrived Angelus looked around taking note that all where virtually identically equipped though their choices in assault rifle and pistol varied.

Let’s mount up Angelus said as he moved past the man and took the front seat of a beat up looking SUV. He slid his rifle into a rifle rack mounted on the inside of the door and tossed his helmet on the floor before jumping in. The others did pretty much the same thing as they hopped in.

Angelus donned ballistic resistant blue lens glasses before looking the driver and said, “Alright inform upstairs that we’re heading out and let’s get rolling.”

The driver went to work radioing in as they pulled out onto a sparsely packed morning street.

Melissa---

Melissa smiled as the girl took the drink and was going to said, “You’re quite welcome,” before the man in front asked her for a drink. Her first impression came off as the request being a little too over the top. She felt that requesting such a minor thing deserved a more toned down proposition.

However she pushed the thought from her mind and said, “Sure thing and don’t you dare try and pull out money,” while she reached back down for her bag. It was her last one but considering it only cost her a couple bucks at the port she wasn’t going to let anyone pay for it. She fiddled in her bag for a moment before brandishing the sole black can that had something like three claw marks on the front. As she made to hand it over the jeep suddenly jumped after hitting a pot hole which sent the can flying from her hand and out of the jeep.

Melissa peeked over the side of the jeep and saw the can spinning widely on the ground after exploding from the impact on the ground. “Opps” Melissa said with a small smile on her face while watching the can’s dance.

She then looked back to Michiru and said, “Sorry that was my last one. I have a bottle of water if you want one though.”

Nor far behind the car occupied by Major Castle was a second vehicle, of a slightly different make.
In the driver's seat was Kyosuke Nanbu, looking impassive. He was dressed in civilian attire, unarmed except for a compact 9mm pistol in a concealed holster and a more conspicious scabbard on his belt that held a big combat knife.
Not that he really needed it; but given their cover, it was useful.
Next to him, looking relaxed and even mildly amused, was Excellen, who had foregone the knife - not a weapon she was proficient with - and opted instead for a full-size pistol; a big Italian-made .45 that had belonged to her father, which she usually kept in a locked storage box in the Strike's cockpit.

They parked the car and exited, appearing to ignore the other four men.
They took a look around, then started to walk, looking around for anything to do or any sign of trouble.

[OOC: Up to this point in previous threads, both characters had been wearing standard OMNI uniforms. As they are in civilian attire, they're wearing the outfits depicted in the images linked above]

Michiru watched as the can flew out of the Jeep and explode on the ground. He couldn't believe that that just happened and he just looked at it as it became farther and farther away from them. She then told him about how she has a bottle of water and he figured that it wouldn't hurt to drink water. "Uh, sure. I like water!" The man spoke in an enthusiastic tone. The two women, in which he didn't know, worked on the same ship as him. It was weird that they never met each other while in the ship. Michiru thought about it for a moment before he just gave up and decided to ask.

"I am curious how I never really met you two personally. I mean I have heard of you but never actually met you, until now. He said to them as he continued to look at the two of them. He seemed really friendly and he didn't know why he was so happy. This was somewhat like a day off to him, although, no day was a day off. The bumpy road was going to be the death of him. He looked out one of the windows and sighed. "You would think that with such a rich military we could afford a decent suspension system for these things." Michiru spoke to no one in particular. It was just a statement that he figured he could say, hoping someone would agree.

After all the fuss about the mission it was kind of nice that nothing serious had happened so far. They landed, they got changed, something happened to their mobile suits, and now they had cars... Well now they weren't in the car, but they had ridden couple... They were in town~! It was kind of a blur, not exactly the military fanfare Delilah had come to expect. Which was fine by her, to be honest. It was a good thing she brought a book along.

And a pen.

She scrunched up her nose and scribbled out the notes in the margin. She was in the car. It wasn't as dramatic, as she had written the scene, but it was at least comfortable. She sat in the back, feet dangling from the open door, happy for the bit of shade the vehicle provided. This was something she could have done on the ship... Delilah shrugged silently to herself, she didn't mind, but the whole ballute drop had intimated a sense of urgency that had yet to materialize since their arrival, "Don't wish for bad things Delia," she chided softly, sticking her tongue out. Action was the last thing she needed.

--Takumi, Laura and Rain

It didn't take long after entering the slightly better paved roads of the city for the small column of jeeps to need some sort of stop to let people off, not to mention find a way to secure the vehicles so they weren't somehow field stripped to the bones by the time they got back. Their resting point as it were, was near another group of vehicles. These were in fact the Earth Alliance vehicles and the parking around them were something the group needed.

Thankfully no more potholes marred the parking and allowed Laura and Rain out of the jeep. This left Takumi to talk briefly to the driver, ether to convince him to stay with a few others to watch the vehicles or figure out a route so they'd waste minimal amounts of gas while doing this little R&R.

The talking eventually caught Laura's attention, making her turn away from Rain and in the process let their captain out of sight, just enough to ensure the 'Earth tourist' had her eyes caught by something. Within moments the captain was off to explore on her own.

--Sanya

A bit detached from the initial exchange between Melissa and Michiru as she focused on sipping at the energy drink, holding it carefully with both hands. Even the drink, the teen was slow to rouse but more troubling was the pothole. When the jeep hit the pothole, Sanya dipped down sightly since she hadn't braced herself for it and the second bump snapped her back up only to have the can be rammed against her lips/nose, which wasn't the most pleasant wake up one could ask for.

With a soft groan and her left hand on her face to try and shield the slightly pained areas from the wind. Thankfully it wasn't that much of a problem as the jeeps soon came to a stop and let Sanya lower her hand down. The teen was at least awake now, although she wanted to get over the pain before sipping at her gift drink.

As Fred and Bridges walked along, they'd started talking about American football, since it turned out Bridges was a fan, not of any teams Fred hated, but none of the ones he liked anyway. Still it was something to talk about if nothing else, though the conversation wasn't that interesting, it was something to do. Fred planned on stopping by the bar to grab a beer later, but he wanted to look around first, get to know the area a bit better before he "settled in". There wasn't too much to see though, it was a fairly big city, but there just wasn't much worth noting.

Nothing out of the ordinary either, no one stood out too much, though there were more people with ballistic vests and rifles then he'd expected, he knew there were actual PMCs around so that's probably where they were from. So Fred and Bridges turned back and started heading back to the bar and ended up passing by their vehicle, to see a jeep park next to it before a few people climbed out. They had press badges on them, but that alone didn't make Fred watch them. One of the women who got out was fair skinned, and had peach colored hair. The others seemed to be looking around but she started walking away from them.

She went right by Fred and Bridges, Fred's eyes were on her the entire time she went by, she was easily on par with Browning in terms of attractiveness. He'd pay attention to whatever channel she was on, she had to be a tv reporter with her looks. Her entire body seemed to be in perfect rhythm as she walked, it was hypnotizing in a way. Though to be fair, most women looked amazing when they moved, but she seemed absolutely perfect, he hadn't noticed any flaws at all on her body. She had a lovely face and a beautiful body to match. Her bust wasn't ridiculous, but she wasn't lacking in that department either.

He felt like he'd lost track of a gem when she'd gone by, but he still stared at her hair as he continued to walk, before his eyes trailed down her body and back up again. He was considering going over and asking for a private "interview" at this point. But instead he turned to go over to her and speak with the, assumed, reporter just to introduce himself, which was a bit creepy. But even if she hit him, wouldn't it be worth it?

Angelus Karath---

Angelus was used to the deplorable conditions of some of the roads in the cities so thought very little as the SUV constantly jarred and jumped. The SUV moved less compared to other vehicles on account of it being armored and reinforced under the skin. The windows were bullet resistant and the tires mounted run flats but despite all that he wasn’t going to count on the vehicle to last should a fire fight break out.

A message then came over the radio saying, “Commander, the ZAFT convoy has stopped in the same location as the suspected Earth Forces vehicles.”

Angelus was rather surprised at this and said, “Damn what the odds,” to no one in particular before responding to the operator on the radio saying, “This Karath, thanks for the heads up. I don’t think anything is going to happen but to be on the safe side have the Derring and Fuji teams prepped and ready on standby.”

“Roger that.” The operator replied before the comm cut.

Angelus then looked to the driver and said, “Looks like today might get a little interesting.”

Melissa---

Melissa reached in her bag and grabbed an extra water and handed it to Michiru as he continued speaking. Melissa however was surprised that Michiru had even heard of her to begin with. She didn’t carry much of a reputation aside from being bounced from team to team.

“Well the military makes these for utility and cost effectiveness, not for comfort so you can’t expect to much” Melissa said in response to Michiru.

The vehicles came then to a stop and Melissa grabbed her book bag and hopped out of the jeep. She stretched after the long ride before slinging the pack on her back. She snapped a couple pictures from the camera hanging around her neck and noticed a lot of armed people. Mostly PMCs she guess but with only the small standard issue pistol strapped to the small of her back and hidden under she shirt she wasn’t very confident.

Pushing the thoughts from her mind she looked to Sanya who looked to be in a little pain and asked, “So where do want to go?... And are you alright?”

Michiru simply nodded to the woman in agreement about the whole Jeep issue and smiled as he turned back around in his seat, waiting for the destination to arrive. He thought about how Sanya just bashed herself in the face with a can and decided to ask if she was okay. "Oh, and Sanya, are you okay? The can looked like it hurt. You aren't bleeding, are you?" He said as he turned to his right and looked over his shoulder to see her while he talked. It wasn't that much longer of a wait as within a couple of minutes, the jeeps stopped and everyone started to get out of them. Michiru followed suit and got out and stood next to the door he just got out of and looked around. He opened the bottle of water and took a sip before looking up at the sun and noticing how hot it was. He was wearing his nice black/gold attire since it was what he had on the night prior but all it was really just a long black and gold coat, which would go down to right about his knees; a long sleeve black dress shirt which would be tucked into his pants; a black tank top under that and then just his black dress pants and shoes.

He decided that he should take his coat off, so he did so. He threw it back into the jeep and noticed that his gun holster would be too noticable so he simply un-tucked his shirt and loosened up his tie a bit. He basically had gotten comfortable. He simply stuck one of his ear buds into his right ear and began to listen to music. Michiru figured that they would be in groups and stayed somewhat close to Melissa and Sanya. He heard Melissa ask where Sanya wanted to go and Michiru began to look around. There wasn't too much choice in a place like that but where ever they decided, he would silently follow as if he were some sort of body guard.
