So I thought since we're all about the same age, we're all probably thinking about college's. Feel free to talk all about schools and exchange ideas here.

This is my list...
Montclair State
Drew University
Carnegie Mellon
Bennington

And my sort-of "Back up " is Kean.

I'm going to major in Musical Theatre.

If anyone has another other suggestions, feel free to give them biggrin.gif .

I don't want to go to NYU or Julliard, by the way. It's not personal enough for me. (meaning i'd rather go to a small college with smaller classes).

Continuing my ultimate catching up here...

I applied to these 4 schools:

Hofstra University
St. John's University
SUNY Stonybrook
SUNY New Paltz

So far I have been accepted to the first three, still waiting on New Paltz's decision. Hofstra was originally my first choice but they only gave me $5000 a semester and at $41000 a semester with everything, that's hardly a dent.
It's going to end up being a SUNY school I'm thinking...just gotta here from New Paltz.

That's enough of my rambling smile.gif

YAY another theatre major. wooo.

I go to a small (comparatively) college right outside of Baltimore, Maryland. And I love it.

I would just suggest to you all who are looking at schools to go and look at them and do what feels right. But if you are a theatre major (or really any major) - go sit in on a class or two. Like, one of the basic acting classes and one of the technical classes. It will give you a feel for how the school runs their classes and they ways and things you will learn.

I am only a second semester freshman but I have friends who did not do this, heck, they never even came and looked at our school, and now have changed majors and/or some are transferring out because they didn't get a feel for how it is.

Wow, congratz!! That's so awesome. I'll be happy if I get a call back. haha. Is one of those like Suny purchase? I really don't know anything about it. Just heard the name.

Since I posted I changed my mind a lot. I got one huge list of colleges and then I went over them to see which I a) actaully have a chance of getting into (based on talent AND academics) cool.gif which are reaches.

These are my "reach" schools, which I may just blow off applying to. not sure yet. :
Drew(NJ)
Carnigie Mellon(PA)
Emmerson(..not quite sure where itis.)
Middlebury
Ithica(NY)

Other:
Montclair State(NJ)
Western State College of Colorado(have to look up)(CO)
Hart(-the theatre arts supervisor tells me that there's a school within Hartford state that has a good theatre program)(CN)
Rider(NJ)
Adelphi(NY)(have to look up)
Bennington(VT)
Mulenburg(PA)
Kean(NJ)
Liverpool School ofthe Arts( have to look up)(England, obveously)
..and lastly, I still have to look up some stuff in Canada. I hear they have some good colleges.

yuppp. It's an ..interesting process. I like it when i'm not be lectured between my guidence counselor and case manager, especially when I hear different things. I took a small workshop at Montclair State back in like October, and they said that the audition is, of course, the largest part of whether or not you get in. They also said, that if you havea kick ass audition, but you're grades don't exactly meet their standards, they can just overlook them(not that I get horrible grades or anything). When I talked to my guidence counselor about the academics of college, I mentioned that. She said she understood because she's had actors before, but she kept lecturing that I shouldn't blow off anything. Well duh.

But everybody keeps telling me how freakin "important" SATS are. I really don't care. I'm not blowing them off, but I don't really think they are worth the stress I've seen people going though. I'm not even taking an SAT class, and i'm not taking it until June. Nonetheless, I keep getting lectured about it. I just want to know if, for the performing arts schools, they honestly pack a big punch, and what score do you think I could get by with?

Thanks, lol. Yeah, I actually decided to go in as an undeclared major so that I don't have to deal with the stress of auditions until I am already well into my education in the school. Just something I decided.
And yes, Stony Brook and New Paltz are like Purchase in that they are SUNY schools. They're just cheaper because they're state schools and that's why I was interested in them.
And don't go crazy about the SAT. I only took it once, and so long as you score around 1500 or higher, there's really no need to take it again. Counselors and teachers often push you to, but it's really alright if you don't.

*GET RID OF FLOOD CONTROL!!*

Adults really overplay how hard college is on the lectures made me almost not come because I was tired of hearing about it.

Don't apply to a school you don't even know where it is....

No offense but that is a really stupid decision. Auditions will be even more stressful once you start school.

Plus, you will go right into your major which is a major help in class selection.

Examplage:
At my school, everybody has to take a class in research and witting a paper. You MUST take this your freshman year. If you are undecided, you go to a research class for undecided people.

I'm a theatre major and my research class was called Script Analysis. Script counted not only for the gen ed requirements but also for my major and my minor. That is three requirements with one stone because I went ahead and declared my major. If I had not declared then I would have had to take the research class for undeclared people AND the script analysis class. AND script is a prerequisite for almost all the theater classes that you take after it.

My roommate is an education major and her research class takes care of a gen ed and one of her education gen eds.

Our friend was undecided last semester and took the research class for undeclared people and now she has declared her major (Education) and has had to take it again but the Education one because it is is a education gen ed.

Just go ahead and audition. Once you start school, you will be stressed again. I don't care what anybody tells you - you do get homework in college and it takes over your life. And if you plan on doing anything music or theatre related, after the first week of school - forget about it. After today, I'm going to be lucky if I have time to sleep. That audition that you could have taken care of during the summer will be weighting on your mind and you'll just f-up.

There are SO many other reasons why being undecided is just not the way to go but I need to go build a set.

/ my mini rant on the stupidity of being undecided.

Well, my "stupid" decision is kind of hard to change now, isn't it?

And most people change their majors once or twice throughout college anyway, and just think of all those classes that they took that they now didn't need to. This has happened to more than one of my friends. I just want to get all my liberal arts classes out of the way before I make any decisions on my major. And I'll probably end up down a different road anyway. I don't want to be an actor all that much. I really just want a well rounded theater degree if one at all. I don't need to have it all figured out right now. But I guess it was dumb of me to think that I could go undecided, right? Silly me. I'm sorry that my whole life isn't figured out just yet at 17. God, what a moron I must be, right? My whole life must be down the drain at this point.

You really shouldn't judge a person just because they don't have their entire life planned out yet.

I'm really not one for confrontation, so I guess this should end here.

I'm a rising senior and I've been visiting a lot of colleges. Most of the students that I've talked to have changed their majors. It's not a big deal, but they've also told me they'll be struggling to get enough credits with their major change.

And guys, let's not call anyone's life plans stupid, okay? We all friends here and as Gina said, not everyone's got their whole life planned out.

Getting back onto the college subject though, I'm interested in a Creative Writing or Education major and I'm looking at the following colleges:

Ithaca (NY)
Bennington (VT)
Skidmore (NY)
Hobart and William Smith College (NY)
Smith (MA) (I'm not sure about this one yet)
Washington (MD)
Arcadia (PA)
Wheaton (MA)

What do you guys think?

Yeah, I don't think I want to leave the east coast. And awww. Thanks. happy.gif I think Hobart might be my top now, but Bennington is just sooo amazing. And I've heard amazing things about Ithaca. Haven't toured there yet, but I'm doing my summer camp there. Who knows? It might turn into my favorite ^^

OMG Ithaca is where your camp is?? That's amazing. I'm not really interested in Ithaca (though they do have a good theatre program).

Montclair is still at the top of my list. I actually just wrote my essay (although tecni-cally it was a HW assignment for lit). I've also got Wagner, Kean, Ramapo, Mulhenburg(SP?), and Drew that are in my line-up.

blaccch, i've got SATs on saturday. I don't really care about it though, but Miranda says I should look over potential essay questions.
