Seek And Ye Shall Find, ~2988 Tag: Legolas (open)

First two months of 2988, edges of Mirkwood 15 miles from Esgaroth.

Sadness was thick, sticky and in a shade of washed black. Today it had also reddish hue betraying irritation in Elisheva's movements. An expression of resigned sorrow glued to youthful, oval features. Long time ago she learned to divide days of lher ife into those that shone brightly with frivolous enjoyment and those that swiftly followed them: anxious, angry, impatient, sleepy. Like riding on tides: up and down, gently rocking rhythm of the girl's moods dictated her behaviors. Capricious, whimsical but also intriguingly changeable the Gondorian walked a very thin line between an interesting mystery and blatant instability, mostly stepping into the latter... This evening wore also shades of dust, everything seemed dulled like a desolated desert – the days were too short for Elisheva to enjoy.

Winter in those parts wasn't harsh and snowy, like on mountains of Minas Tirth but unbearably wet. Even in two cotton shirts and a thick cloak Elisheva could feel gnawing, moist cold. She preferred to stay for once in an inn but some suspicious men were already circling the city. Maybe her father's people, maybe not – they were from Gondor. Elisheva didn't want to risk it and after buying some supplies she hit the road, avoiding the main tract. The wild, bushy trail had led her to the edges of the forest. Elves lived there and weren't known for their hospitality. They shouldn't mind hiding at the edges of their woods...

There were legends told about this place – that dark magic forced the reckless travelers into false, treacherous paths were only death awaited. The air was toxic there, vile. Elisheva knew simple peoples superstitions and thought the stories to be overblown and twisted. Maybe elves themselves spread such foolish rumors to keep humans away. One never knew with the damn berry munchers. Putting a brave front, Elisheva slipped off the saddle and took a small step onto the obvious path that led inside. The mare refused to follow so the woman tied her to the tree, deciding to take shelter no more than few paces into the thick shrubbery. Hopefully the hirelings believed more in the dimwitted stories than her father's money.

Inside it seemed warmer, the trees were still green despite winter. Elisheva breathed in carefully, the scents were overwhelming. Something pulled her in, as if she shouldn't be happy with just few steps. The woods looked alluringly mysterious and the girl felt a pleasant thrill building in her stomach. No wonder elves prefer to keep it for themselves. Elisheva thought. With cold fingers she adjusted the heavy cloak. With a vigilant gaze, the young woman surveyed the area. Turned around, looked up at tall trees. So warm in here...As if winter wasn't allow to disturb those woods. She turned around again, sensing something was wrong. There should be exit, just behind her...Elisheva counter her steps but suddenly felt like miles inside the looming forest.

”Oh blimey...” Elisheva whispered under her breath. Suddenly all the tall tales about this damn woodland seemed more than true...
