Aether's Academy is a very open, relaxed place to roleplay, but we do have some standards to uphold to ensure that things move along smoothly.

Roleplaying:

Posting
-- Aether's Academy has a post minimum of two paragraphs per post. For introductory posts, we suggest at least three paragraphs.
-- When replying to a thread, try to match the length of the other posters' posts. Replying with a post half or double the length may be off-putting or intimidating and decrease the other person's likelihood of replying to your post.
-- Try to post regularly. (At least two or three times a week.) It's common courtesy to your fellow roleplayers, and will prevent you from falling behind.
-- Write your posts in complete sentences, with proper capitalization and punctuation.
-- The roleplays should be in past tense, third person to avoid confusion.
-- You may use doHTML in your posts, but please try to focus more on the words than the stylistics.
-- The chatbox is for out of character usage only. Do not post roleplays in it.

Also: You may notice that there are not necessarily boards for every place spoken of. This is to avoid having thousands of empty boards. If there are a reasonable amount of threads in one area (say five or six) a board will be created for that place only.

Attendance/Activity:

In Character
-- Try to post at least two to three times a week in-character.
-- (Specifically roleplayed) Truancy in students will result in suspension.

Out of Character
-- If you know that you are going to be absent for more than a week or so, please let us know.
-- Inactivity for periods longer than a month will result in "suspension" of your character(s). That is, they will be moved to a group called inactive and will not be allowed to post in regular roleplays until revived. (You may come back and reinstatethem at a later time, though.)

Site Rating:

At Aether's, we'd like to try to keep it about PG-13. Since the movie rating lines have become a little muddled since first introduced to the world, we also use the universal RPG rating system. Our score is as follows:

QUOTE
The following is a list of what is this rating entails, although it is a very rough guide:
The work as a whole must not endorse discriminatory language or behaviour.
Drug taking may be shown but the film as a whole must not promote or encourage drug misuse.
Promotion of drugs which are easy to obtain are unlikely to be allowed.
Strong threat and menace are permitted unless sadistic or sexualised.
Dangerous behaviour (for example, hanging, suicide and self-harming) can be allowed provided the detail of such is low so that it can not create too much of an impression of the viewer. Abuse of weapons which are easily obtained will not be tolerated.
Frequent use of strong language can be permitted, although very strong language needs to be restricted and would have to be seen as reasonable in the context. Frequent usage of very strong language would be seldom allowed.
Nudity is a sexual content must be restricted however nudity in a non-sexual content does not.
Sexual activity without strong detail would most likely to be allowed. Some strong sexual references may be allowed to, but very strong ones may not, unless used within reason. Sexual acts or references with the intention of causing arousal is not likely to be permitted.
As long as the film is appropriate for 15 year olds, no certain themes are prohibited.
Violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. The strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable. The same applies to references. Any sexual violence should be discreet and be strongly justified.

Face Claims and Graphics:

Face claims are required for every character, and we ask that you provide one when you start the thread for your character's interview/application. These characters should be celebrities or models, and should be age-appropriate. (No more than a few years older or younger, unless the celebrity has a long career-span and has pictures from when s/he was younger, ie. Elijah Wood or Alyssa Milano.)

Since this site requires you to provide a face claim for your character, you should have at least one graphic so that others can see what your character looks like.
-- Avatars should be 150 pixels wide and 200 pixels tall.
-- The image in your signature should be no larger than 500 pixels wide by 250 pixels tall.
-- Your signature should not be larger than 500x300 pixels total.
-- Use only your chosen celebrity to represent your character in your graphics.
