Deadliest Warrior

Currently my favorite show on TV and the only one I find worth keeping up with (granted, I don't have cable and listen to the radio a lot more). I love the analytical aspect of how they look at warriors and educate the audience on (what I can only call) the art and science of war and combat.

For those of you who haven't seen it, it's on Spike TV and it's concept is that they take two known historic warriors and analyze how they fought and what weapons they used. They can be the class of warrior, such as Pirate vs Knight, or specific warriors who made a name for themselves, like William Wallace vs Shaka Zulu.

Right now they're in their third season. Personal opinion: they are trying to give fans what they want, with less focus on weapons, and more concentrating on the person. However, it's coming to late, as a lot of the better known warriors have already been done. It's still fun to watch, but I feel as if it's going to be its last season. What seals it's planned season finale: Zombies vs Vampires. On a show using only real warriors, this would be jumping the shark, and fans will demand more fights of fictional characters...

I've always liked the concept, but at times it definitely feels like a show were they gave a bunch of jocks money and explosives and said "Go crazy."
I'll cite the SWAT vs Speznaz, they tested grenades alongside each other but with two completely unrelated tests. How you could compare the tests they did was just ...moronic and done for flair over any kind of scientific comparrison. Compare to Mythbusters where they scrutinize over every detail and are chastised if they overlook something. These guys can just go, give an opinion and really not care if they wanted to.
And I was never happy with the result of Vlad the Impaler vs. Sun Tzu. I don't disagree that Vlad would have won in a one-on-one, but Sun Tzu's strength was in strategizing for whole armies. Sun Tzu's army would decimate Vlad's army.
And I've had some disagreements with this season as well, all of which come down to the fact that we haven't had a result you couldn't discredit with the margin of error.

I like the show, but I wish it were done with a little more Mythbuster-esque integrity.

I see a lot of these complaints. The main problem is that it is a show first (even further, a show on SPIKE...), and a scientific experiment second. Behind the scenes, I am sure DOZENS of test are done (I think any scientific mind will tell you that one test should never be taken as conclusive results), but most of them are probably not all that entertaining. But yeah, sometimes their choices for what to show from those tests seem unfitting or biased.

On the other hand, Auction Hunters is the best thing on the entire freaking network.

Oh, I think the channel is just awesome as a whole: 1000 Ways to Die and Bar Rescue as other shows I really like from Spike. I don't have cable or anything, but if I could pay like 5$ a month for just one channel, it would be Spike.

Anyways, 3rd Season is done and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The only flop episode in my book (though I haven't yet watched Gurkha vs French Foreign Legion) was North Korean Special Forces vs US Army Rangers: it was too built up due to "it might actually happen", but their weapons and all that were too close to make things interesting. Also, Lawrence of Arabia and Theodor Roosevelt wasn't great, but it was still pretty good.

And then there's the finally; Vampire vs Zombie. It was so different than any other episode, that I still stick by my "jumping the shark" statement, but the rest of the season convinced me that, if they can find the warriors, they might make another season. I have more gripes with the last episode, but too specific and too long (also possible spoilers) to post here.

My favorite episode of Deadliest Warrior has got to be Jesse James Gang vs. Al Capone. I wouldn't have thought pistol whip would beat brass knuckles

I've always liked Vampires vs. Zombies. But my favorite is Vlad the Impaler vs. Sun Tzu. Learned a lot about Vlad. Including he uses a HALBERD! <3

I should watch that one. The story behind the real life Dracula confuses me. Some sites say one thing, others say another. I need the straight facts.
