Welcome Wanderer
War has ravaged Pern. The rejection of mutation colors appearing on the sands has given rise to a rebellion - taking up residence in what was once High Reaches Weyr.

With the entire world against them, can the dragonriders of High Ruins survive the periodical raiding from the surviving Weyrs? Or is the clock merely ticking down to their inevitable destruction?

We are still here. We will still survive.

Why don't Brass and Roseates hatch bronze?
Due to the likelihood of mutations breeding more mutations, and the lack of bronzes being away from the Weyrs, Roseates and Brass will only hatch bronze if they are caught by one during a mating flight.

Was there a catalyst that started the civil war other then the old timers refusal to move?
There were other causes for the war, but the major one was the oldtimers refusing to be forced south. Every Weyr thought they should be the one to determine how things should be done, the one that the other Weyrs answered to, and this all out war between Weyrs is what cut down the population of Pern.

How big is the rebellion?
The Ruins have grown significantly since their initial break from the Weyrs. They are a large group of dragonriders and hound handlers, but they are not quite the size and strength of a full Weyr as of yet. The raiding and lack of supplies usually keeps their numbers in check.

Why doesn't the rebellion have whers if the Weyrs have whers?
With a sickness killing off many wild whers, and the belief that whers-handlers are a Weyr creation, wherhandlers are treated with such suspicion that they are not found in the rebellion. They have been replaced with War-hounds and their handlers.

How does the Rebellion get their firestone?
Because the rebellion has taken up residence in the ruins of what was High Reaches Weyr, they also have access to the supplies left from the Weyr and Holds that once Tithed to it. Naturally, they don’t have a ton of firestone, so it is a precious resource, and can not afford to be used excessively.

You keep on bringing up Whers fighting the rebellion. Do the Weyr dragons fight with them at all?
When whers get close to the neophytes or any of the dragons guarding them, Ruins dragons will indeed fight whers. More commonly, dragons will fight other dragons to prevent air-raids.

Is raiding a frequent thing with the rebellion?
Yes. Despite the supplies they still have in the Ruins and what they can salvage from the ruins of Holds, they still raid supplies from other Holds as they are needed.

Why do the Weyrs and rebellion continue to fight each other?
The fighting between the Weyrs and those taking shelter in the Ruins has been going on for several Turns. Many don’t remember a time where there wasn’t fighting. Because of the Weyr idea to kill or shun the mutation dragons and their riders, the fighting has persisted, though it can not be said the rebellion is completely innocent. Both sides have kept the fighting going, attacking when they have the opportunity.

Is the no gold rule to prevent gold hording?
Yes. We also decided that Weyrs would not let something so precious as a Gold out of their sight, and therefor the rebellion would never have one, not even through hatching. A gold that hatches on the sands (usually due to stolen eggs) will be killed before it impresses.

If I wanted a Brass or Roseate dragon, how could I earn one?
It’s as simple as being a good member. Start plots. Be friendly. Don’t go shame or troll other weyrs. Help new members. Thread with newcomers. It’s all about being a good member, and having a character we feel fits with a Brass or a Roseate - with all the varitety we put into dragons, it shouldn’t be that hard!

If I want something that's not on the accepting list and I have a really good idea, is there any way I can convince the admins to let me have it?
No. If it is something that isn’t currently being accepted, you will simply have to wait for it to be available through the accepting list, in a hatching, or in the adoptable section.

Is it unnatural for a canon colored dragon to transfer into the rebellion if they aren't happy in the Weyrs?
Not really. Golds will never leave their Weyrs, and Bronzes and their riders are extremely unlikely to either, due to their high status within a Weyr, but it is not unheard of for a brown, blue, or green rider that sympathizes with the mutations or who is just not content with Weyr life to find their way to the High Ruins.

Is there a character limit?
Currently, there is none. However, if we feel that you are merely creating characters to just hoard dragons, we will have a talk with you about it, and we may temporarily stop you from creating more characters until you have a handle on the ones you have.

If a mountain hound breeds with a pirus hound, would the pups be pirus mountain hounds?
Care is taken by Hound Handlers to not allow cross-breeding, but from time to time it does happen. The offspring of a mixed breeding will be named according to what type they resemble most or simply referred to as mutts.

Do Canon colors get markings or are they simply solid colored?
Canon colors will get markings based on what their parents have, or what their parents’ types are. Bronzes, Blues, Browns, and Greens all can have markings of varying shades.

Would a wherhandler be refused if they tried to join?
Most likely. The rebellion is highly suspicious of wherhandlers, since they are viewed as agents of the Weyrs. A wherhandler wishing to join would have to do something extraordinary to be able to join.

How long did it take the warhounds to get where they are now?
Its been roughly about 150 Turns of selective breeding to get the warhounds to where they are now

How big of a problem is thread in Aces?
Thread does not fall on Aces. We decided that it would be overkill to worry about Thread while the threat of raids still hangs over everyone's heads.

How long has High Ruins been around?
Since Aces takes place AFTER the major war and conflict, the rebellion of High Ruins has been around for about 150-200 Turns.

What is a Neophyte?
A Neophyte is the Ruins term for a Weyrling. Anyone is allowed to teach them, there are no formal Masters.

Do the Ruins Search out new members?
No. The Ruins members do not take or kidnap anyone from Holds or Weyrs. Newcomers must find their way to the Ruins themselves.

What's the rule on flightsex?
We generally operate under the idea of "If you want it, fine! If not, that's fine too!" We don't enforce it, and we don't really have rules about it. Don't want to be affected by it? That's fine! Want a Stand-In? Sure! We want everyone to be comfortable, so we let them do what they please with it, save for anything squicky/triggery.
