It was a good day to be God.
Light folded his hands behind his head as he surveyed footage of the earlier rally at To-oh his alma mater. His mind however was not on the orgy of ego stroking flashing on the screen however; no victory was the only thing on his mind. In twenty more minutes Roger Ruvie would die, five minutes before he did he would send all information he had on L’s living successors to Kira. The power of the Death Note was absolute.
He glanced at the slightly older man, the current possessor of the Death Note; Mikami Teru. Intelligent, resourceful, and absolutely dedicated he was the perfect proxy. He didn’t question, and he didn’t make unnecessary conversation; two traits Amane Misa was severely lacking in. The young intermediary of God was thankful his fiancée was currently preoccupied by a movie filming in Osaka. The less she was aware of his and Miakmi’s relationship, the better. To anyone else the young prosecutor was merely a legal advisor for the movement and one of several. That he was the Peter to Light’s Messiah was a secret shared only between them.
And that damn Shinigami Ryuk.
The speed at which Light had this system installed was a testament to his genius. He had changed the spare room into what he told Misa was “his office for his work for Kira” and for once had not been lying to the blonde though he hadn’t given her the access code for the door. Indeed he had to supplement the payment for the project with her own money, but it was for the good of humanity, and right now she was doing nothing otherwise to benefit it. He had to dispose of the contractors and technicians as well, but he’d only chosen those he’d need to dispose of anyway. This microcosm of untraceable information was only for his eyes and the eyes of his acolyte alone.
Soon the five television screens would play with the feeds he had had the faithful install in the area around Wammy’s House. He would not a repeat of the failure in New York when he’d been forced to rely on news feeds and that bloated idiot Demegawa. No one would escape this time, and any interlopers would be killed immediately. The days of failure were over. He use Mikami’s eyes to hold the British government by the throat and judge those who would oppose him.
He smirked as a man in a fox mask praised him, Why do you hide your face and praise me with the same breath? Do you fear your love for Kira will cause you to lose a position? Or do you fear me and love me? he mused. He leaned forward as they lit the effigy of L, it looked nothing like the man he’d known. L a crude otaku? Absurd. He’d been more like a vicious spider spinning a web of lies and cunning, how unfortunate for him Light turned out to be an even larger spider merely posing as a fly.
He paused however as he realized how detailed the face was. It seemed strange that obviously an artist would take time to craft such a portrait. His brow furrowed and he glanced at Mikami and sat back. Had the lawyer noticed it as well? Light often tested him, he was always checking to see if the prosecutor was as mentally keen as ever. If Mikami was still worthy of being his proxy or if it was time to move on.
“Mikami-san,” he said addressing the other man. Mikami rarely spoke first to him and while this was not an unlikable trait it often meant Light had to prompt him to get his opinion. “What do you think of the rally at To-oh today?”

“!984? Interesting reference Mikami-san, especially given Orwell was a British author,” Light replied, taking a bite of his own meal. He hardly objected to the other man cooking for him despite his initial surprise. Light often did not eat if someone else was cooking for him given he rarely took a break from his work to take the time to do it himself. In these brief few days he was still often astounded at Mikami’s domesticity; it was often as if he wished to be the wife Misa would eventually become, though thankfully Mikami had more dignity than to longue about in lingerie.
“Arigatou, the meal is excellent,” a simple acknowledgement of Mikami’s care. It was hard to ignore the way the man looked at him, he be all the more moldable if Light kept pulling his strings. Words of praise now and then no doubt assure the man’s undying loyalty. The capture and possible execution of children would be something that take a great deal of moral fidelity.
“Yes indeed, it almost seems as if they were making the effigy into an exact person, an insurmountable feat given none of them could have any idea what L looked like,” Light narrowed his eyes. There was something not right about this. Why go into such detail on the face? When the crowd only wanted a figure to spit at? If anything given L had largely been just a letter on a screen a blank face allows the crowd to transform the disgusting specter of L into whomever they wished.
It will probably be wise to investigate this further with the contacts I have at To-oh, he decided. Namely who had organized this rally and who had procured the effigy.

"Yo, Teru, Light." The world's favorite shinigami phased through the wall of the impenetrable compound as if it weren't there, carrying with him an apple and a friendly wave. "How ya been? Guess you've been kinda busy with the world conquering and stuff." He snickered to himself, seeming to think that to be a funny joke. He rose the apple to his mouth, the red morsel being quickly cut in two as he took the first bite. Stepping through Light, (He'd entered via the wall Light had been facing.), Ryuk turned around, cocking a head as he viewed the rally.
"Heh heh, there're some weird names there, huh Teru?" Mikami happened to be the only human, at the moment, that shared Ryuk's brand of eyes, so, surely, he'd understand the bit of humor Ryuk was about to point out. Of course, the normally western characters immediately popped out at him.
Mordraug McCormick, haha, that's a really weird name. An alliteration, I think, Light's English teacher called it. Of course, he may or may not have been correct. Ryuk wasn't fantastic with lingo and jargon.
"So, just revelling in your victory, I guess? Better be careful, Near might not have been the last one." He laughed that raspy laugh he had, taking advantage of his mouth's open state to toss in the apple simultaneously; oddly efficient for the aloof death god.

Light shivered as the Shinigami passed through him. He hated when the Death God did that, it always gave him the unpleasant sensation of being dunked into a lake of icy syrup. He glowered at his constant companion for the last seven years, and as usual Ryuk had absolutely no insightful commentary. The fish faced specter might as well been a fly on the wall instead of a body blocking Light’s view of the screens.
He followed the super natural eyes to the brief flash of a foreigner, and Light shrugged. Tokyo was an international city given it was the largest metropolis in Japan. To-oh had always hosted a large number of genji students and staff, it was part of the reason Light had chosen To-oh for his university. Kira was for all people after all, if Light was one day to rule the world he must be aware of foreign customs and attitudes.
Hr smirked at Ryuk’s warning.
“Well stick around Ryuk for about another ten more minutes then you’ll get to see the real fun begin.” He promised the Shinigami with a cool expression and upraised hand to indicate the screens. “Near and Mello were far from the last, however I have already taken precautions against having another one of L’s left overs from ever challenging me again. Indeed, I have even saved some children from his evil and decayed clutches.”
And what better way to assure my ascendancy then having a crop of young genii supporting me? With their talent and training I’ll have a crop of brilliant minds to bring forth cures, vanquish evil, and protect my regime, he thought to himself as he glanced at his disciple.

Light paused, so far Mikami had not failed him and in every way had been loyal to him even beyond the considerable expectations the soon to be ruler of the world had. This did not mean however that Light absolutely trusted him. Mikami would never confess, but Light could never put it out of the realm of possibility the young prosecutor may one day betray him.
He laid his chop sticks down as he sat back. Still, he needed Mikami to believe he had the special position of especially beloved disciple. That he was chosen by a divine force to act on Earth, and that that divine force was not only righteous but kind and considerate. He could see no foreseeable harm in Mikami knowing about L, if anything perhaps it would help fuel his already considerable fervor.
“Yes I did meet the original L. He approached me to work with him on the Kira case as a young college student because he was investigating me at the time,” Light answered, he glanced at Ryuk. The Shinigami had been there for the entire struggle and Light hardly put blurting out the whole story past him. Light knew Mikami never go behind his back, but since when did you ever have to ask Ryuk for information, at least the sort of information that wouldn’t help Light.
“I don’t have time to go into a character study, however I can assure you Mikami-san he was utterly without tact, manipulative, a liar, and completely without a sense of justice.” He looked at his acolyte. Mikami had never had a personal grudge against L, nevertheless he needed to understand any enemy of Kami’s was an enemy of divine justice.

Mikami never had any reason to disbelieve Light. After all, the man was God incarnate, and it was his genius that caused the change in this world. Of course, if a Death Note was dropped in front of him, he would do the same thing. But Teru thought that if it were him, he probably would've made a mistake.
Well, that's what he tried to convince himself.
"I understand." He nodded and continued staring at the screen, unwilling to question the subject further.
I am justice, the huge calligraphic 'L' said on the huge Tokyo skyscraper VDTs, the day Kira was confirmed. Mikami heard about it. He wasn't there physically when it occurred years ago, but news stations tend to repeat the excitement.
He leaned forward and placed his chin on his interlaced fingers. L might as well have said, 'I am utter bullshit', he thought.
But he couldn't help but wonder.

"Hyuk hyuk hyuk, Light, I suppose even you're not-... Um... Er, nevermind. Say, you're out of apples, when're you gonna get some more? Misa usually handles the shopping, but with her movie and stuff, I've had to ration out apples to myself."
Truth be told, the shinigami had just prevented himself from saying something incredibly stupid. Were he allowed to have finished that sentence, he would have said:
"Light, I suppose even you're not above manipulating your closest follower."
Obviously, this would've been fine to say, usually, and perfectly in character; however, Teru was present, and Teru, being the only other individual to be conscious of Ryuk's existance, obviously couldn't know that Light was hyper-extending the truth.
Heh heh, well, for all I know, he could honestly think that of L. A seemingly random chuckle escaped Ryuk's lips as he stepped back, occupying himself with observing the rest of the room.

Light gave the death god an inquiring look; it was rare that Ryuk refrain from expressing himself. Why hesitate? He glanced at Mikami; the only time that Shinigami didn’t comment was when he either thought it be beneficial to Light or he thought it hinder the “fun”. He shook his head; he already knew it be pointless to ask Ryuk to finish his comment. Especially as there was a good chance whatever it had been would not be in his favor.
“I have been a little too busy to go shopping Ryuk. Indeed I plan on being preoccupied for the next coming days given what I am trying to accomplish,” he smiled at Mikami, a smile of trust and alliance. Mikami didn’t lie, so when he said “understood” Light knew this was far from lip service.
“I can’t guarantee you any apples, but I can guarantee a great deal of entertainment,” Light pulled his sleeve back to reveal the watch his father had given him upon his graduation from high school so many years ago. Unlike his father it continued to tick and be of use to him. “Starting now.”
As predicted the computer beeped urgently a second later and Light smirked as he rose to receive the message. For the past two weeks he’d been having that old fool send him information about Wammy’s House. His plan was coming to fruition at last.
Roger Ruvie, dies of cardiac failure on Febuary 3r, 2010 at 1010 after becoming a covert Kira supporter. As Yagami Light has apparently become Kira's spokesman, he untraceably sends all the information he knows that he believes would be of help to Yagami, such as info about the Wammy's orphans, that can be reasonably sent in five days without arousing suspicion.
The page in the Death Note read. Light had been looking for that name ever since he’d heard of Wammy’s House, and apparently unlike the children the care taker had not been so protected by the late Watari; an oversight that old man and L would pay dearly for. Given how candid he’d been to Aizawa and Mogi, Light may even be doing these Operatives a favor by disposing of him. Not before he gave all his information to his new lord and savior Kira however.
As one man collapsed and died in England, a self appointed god snickered in triumph.
“So Roger Ruvie is dead, now let’s see if this Ambrose Pierce is as capable as he claimed to be,” Light mused as he walked over to the screen and switched them on. Ambrose Pierce had been a fanatical supporter of Kira in England as early as 2003. A retired colonel and knight of the garter with lineage tracing back to the House of York, he be an excellent shoulder to mount Kira’s reign in England. Blessed with communication from God himself he had selected his crusaders and mounted his divine campaign.
It was the acquisition of the under-aged successors of L, and Kira’s future world leaders.
The five screens remained blank, a lapse time of about a minute, before several different angles of the house surveyed from buildings near the establishment came into view. There should be no blind spots of Pierce had acted according to plan. Indeed he had far more than his reputation at stake on this attack.
“Mikami-san, you know what to do. Do not fail me,” he turned to look at the older man with a cool expression belying the fire within. He couldn’t rejoice yet, he still had work to do. Though as he strode over to the computer to send forth Kira’s already prepared statement he let himself chuckle darkly.
If that program was to create a copy of L, it is a failure in every way, he thought as his long fingers danced over the keyboard, leaving his disciple to do his ordained work.

Entertainment? Ryuk was certain that Light would make good on his promise. Cackling a death god's laugh, he peered eagerly at the screen, his demented eyes scanning over it for any sign of movement.
And the next.
And the next.
And the next.
"Uh, Light, nothing's happening yet..." He stated, almost on the point of pouting. Light had promised entertainment! And God knew that they were lacking in that lately. Ryuk scanned the room for something that could temporarily remove his anticipation, his eyes eventually landing on Light's plate. Well, maybe it wasn't an apple, but it looked moist enough. Shrugging and risking his tongue, Ryuk reached down and grabbed the chicken with his bare hand with the intention of bringing it to his mouth.
Instead, what he got was a loudly yelped "YOW!" and a flying chicken. Needless to say, according to Murphy, the chicken landed int he lap of someone. Someone extremely necessary to the operation.
Teru Mikami.
Whether or not the man liked scorching poultry in his lap wasn't Ryuk's call to make, but, nonetheless, common courtesy dictated an apology.
"Oh, er, sorry, Teru."
However, Ryuk wasn't certain if he would be heard in the following chaos.

Mikami stared obediently at the screen for any flicker of movement as he reached for Death Note. The world suddenly grew hazy with a red overtone that had the ability to see all once the prosecutor saw an assailant's face.
He tried not to listen to the incessant chatting of a second voice in his head, second-guessing his actions. Teru tapped his fingers nervously on the notebook and willed for a person to come up on camera already.
The sound of the shinigami's voice asking Light for some of his food was something he mentally blocked out, given that he was already used to the reaper's annoying habits to keep up his short attention span. But when he thought he saw movement on the corner of the television, Mikami's mind didn't have the capacity to process it, as he suddenly felt a surge of hot pain in the crotch of his pants.
"FFFFFUUUUUUUUU--
Mikami literally jumped and toppled onto the floor from tipping over his chair. He flung the hot piece of chicken off himself, but there was a scorching ounce of parmesian sauce that was now attempting to burn through the fabric in his trousers.
The man was now on the floor, absent in mind of the objective at hand. He scrambled to take off his buckle and in a few quick jerks, kicked off his pants so that he was on the floor in his dress shirt, tie, socks and pair of black boxers.
He sat panting, helplessly trying to rub the area burned by the brief contact with the chicken. But as Teru realized how this may have looked (especially being half naked on the floor in front of God, which was horrendously horrible enough), he flushed scarlet. Mikami dared not look at Light or Ryuk, terrified to move and that this humiliation would get only worse in the next few moments of awkwardness.
His lip trembled.

“Be patient,” Light had advised the Shinigami as he finished up Kira’s written statement to the people of the world. He absently nodded when Ryuk asked for some of his food as he kept his eyes trained on the screen. What harm could possibly come from letting the Death God have a bite of his dinner? Then a supernatural yell and a human shriek forced him to spin quickly around in his computer chair as he watched Mikami topple from his seat in desperation to remove his pants.
He looked at the screens, the assault was beginning and his eyes were on the floor undressing to prevent spilled sauce from burning him. He could hardly call Pierce and tell him to suspend the attack because his backup was incapacitated by Parmesian sauce! The look he gave Ryuk at his apology to Mikami was far from gracious, he longed to strangle the Shinigami until those bulbous eyes popped out. Unfortunately the death god had long since proved his ability to turn intangible.
No, no, he needed to keep his temper, his focus. Screaming at Ryuk and Mikami was not going to make things any better he decided as he closed his eyes and counted to ten. He sighed opened them and walked towards the obviously upset prosecutor. Not before hitting “send” on his computer however, he never lost his focus unlike these two fools.
“It’s all right Mikami-san,” he said as he leaned down to pick up the stained pants. “I’ll wash these, but you must get back to work watching for any interlopers to execute.”
He gently touched the man’s crimson right cheek, “I need you.”
He didn’t like taking the time to do this favor but he could hardly force the other man to sit there in his underwear and still have Mikami love and respect him. Sacrifices must always be made by a god. He looked at the pants, he occasionally did the laundry for himself when Misa was away on long trips, surely it wouldn’t be too hard to remove the stain.
“I’ll be right back, please keep to your duty Mikami-san, and Ryuk I am sure the screens are full of enough excitement for you,” he glanced over his shoulder from where he stood by the door. There was no sound but the flurry of bodies moving across the screen certainly be entertaining enough for the immortal being with the attention span of a five year old.
