Ferdinand Lionel couldn’t hope to hide all of his trepidation as he glanced down the long oak table at the young Japanese man at the end of the table. The Mayor of Winchester adjusted his tie nervously as he glanced at the rest of the British delegation. A sampling of lawyers, diplomats, and advisers they consisted of about ten men and women. The Japanese group was just as large and consisted of similar people however unlike the British group they were headed by a media personality for former detective, even the Japanese diplomat to Britain kowtowed to him. Lionel glanced at the diplomat to Japan for the United Kingdom, the de facto leader of their collation. Was he insulted at all that he was expected to negotiate with a mere spokesman and not a viable agent of any government?
Lionel had to acknowledge this suggested Kira was a force of his own, capable of entering into arrangements with a government by his own initiative. What was the Parliament thinking allowing this to happen? It was allowing for the practice of negotiating with terrorists. He of course didn’t voice any of these opinions and instead let his expression stay a guarded neutral expression. He had to do his best to assure safety and peaceful return of the captured children. The Wammy’s House, he would have never even contemplated it wasn’t just a normal home for gifted children, but he almost rather had have them be working against Kira instead of now being in his palm. They were really such helpless victims, had any of them ever had any choice in who they would support in this new war?
“I think we can start our meeting,” Nagasaki, the British Diplomat to Japan said smoothly from his seat at the opposite end of the table, adjusting his small glasses on his nose as he glanced at the papers before him.
“Mr. Lionel wishes to propose the negotiated return of the children to British foster care; he believes that while Kira is just in his actions he is not a viable force to be deciding these children’s futures. Mr. Lionel is of the opinion that it would be best that the children be given normal lives,” Nagasaki glanced at the mayor indicating he was free to speak.
“Yes, while I believe it was wrong for the children to be used for terrorist activity, I think it be best if they recovered in the stewardship of the British government, really we must think of what is best for them,” Lionel said folding his hands atop his papers, and smiling. He was of course aware he could expect to drop dead at any second if these talk turned hostile, but he wasn’t going to stand aside and not at least try.

The young Japanese was smirking behind his folded hands, yet he kept that little fact concealed perfectly as he watched the old British man speak. He was just a useless pawn, powerless in the face of the New World. Soon even naysayers like this stubborn fool would be gone, and true peace would rein on Earth.
“Mr. Lionel brings up valid concerns regarding the children’s safety.” Light replied easily as he lowered his hands from his face and revealed only a cool and polite expression. He leaned forward to show his interest in what the opposing side had to say, as any admirable diplomat did. “Nevertheless they are used to such an environment, and it must be acknowledged these children are not average; they are exceptional.”
He sat back as he continued a gesture to alleviate the tension his next words would create.
“While perhaps Mr. Lionel does not approve of Kira, he must admit that Kira is now a force in the world. A force of good, and one that is already making an impact on the world stage, can you truly argue a life spent in foster care place these children as high in life as they would in Kira’s hands?” He smiled and made sure to make eye contact with each of the opposing party.
“Kira is offering these children a first class education and the merciful act of sparing those who should be judged for harboring such terrorists if they repent and agree that his actions are just.”
“Teru Mikami, one of my advisors once prosecuted the administrators of a children’s home in Tokyo for child abuse,” he glanced at the lawyer sitting next to him, “Mr. Mikami informed me one of the abuses the children faced was exposure to extreme ideologies due to the one of the caretakers suffering from paranoid schizophrenia. I believe one of the examples that stood out most in my mind was the requirement they memorize an extremist text regarding anarchy.”
“Would Mr. Mikami care to expand on the parallel I’m making here?” Light smiled indulgently at the other Japanese man, but the look in his eyes were clear; Don’t fail me Mikami.

Mikami stared at the wall. His thoughts weren't drawn coherently enough to pay full attention to the British man and to Light Yagami. His black eyes scanned the cold floor and he looked at his hands.
When he heard his name, he looked up, trying to get the taste of English again so he wouldn't sound like an idiot.
He cleared his throat and stood up,"Mr. Yagami is correct. The children at the Wammy's orphanage ordered no foul behavior to partake on them, and were victims in that vile institution--much like the children in the Tokyo orphanage he speaks of." Mikami averted his eyes, then looked at the space in front of both men. His hands balled into fists, but he wasn't sure what to feel. In actuality, he was himself igorant of what destruction the orphans in the Wammy's House endured. They were genii, trained in advanced studies, yes, but...
Mikami continued, disregarding his doubts. What an atrocity it was to be hesitant like this!
"Kira's influence on the world is inevitable and a truth that we must accept. There is righteousness in our intentions for the betterment of these children. Wouldn't it be so cruel to deny these obviously abused children a chance at optimism and acceptance into Kira's intentions for a better world? Clearly if one was to doubt the effectiveness of what Kira could do for these children, one must surely be forgetting Kira's dream for a better humanity. And that, in the law's eyes now, is criminal."
He sat down and tapped his fingertips on the arm of his chair. He hated being fallacious, and his argument was more pathos than ethos, but it was disguised well.
Mikami stayed quiet, and looked at the wall again.

"Hyuk hyuk, testing Mikami even here, Light? Gotta admit, you're pretty cocky. Relying on the Death Note as backup?"
"Well, wait, I guess you can't. If the British ambassador suddenly died, it'd pretty much out you right there, right?"
Ryuk cackled again, amused with his own perception of reality. It'd be pretty ironic if, after all Light went through, something as stupid as this old fart's stubborness ended up destroying Light's persona.
But, then, it would be kind of funny. If nothing else, it would provide a few 'Hyuk's to see Light squirm under all that media pressure.
... Man, I'm bored. He thought as Mikami stood up to give his speech. Only half listening, he leaned in close to Light, so as to not be overheard by Mikami. "Light, is anything interesting going to happen here? So far, I've only seen you lie through your teeth, and you do that every day to every one." His hot breath blew on Light's face as he snickered, the scent of a death god washing over him and assaulting his senses.
"So, I dunno, get the old guy to kill someone or something. I'm sure you can afford some entertainment now that you're a god."
