CSI: Brisbane until she landed the role as
Harry Connor's younger daughter,
Lucy Connor, on the long-running, australian soap opera
Forever Drama at age twelve.<p>
winthrop left the show in 2001 when she re-located to California with her father.
winthrop landed the popular role as
Stacey Danvers' character's daughter,
Olivia, in the cult horror film,
Silence which landed her recognition in the States.<p>
From there,
winthrop was casted as a recurring character,
Sienna Day, in the teen, paranormal drama,
Starlight. the show was about a young girl named starlight hayes who found out she comes from a legacy of powerful witches and how she has to help save her town from disaster.
winthrop's character was a quirky, cynical, young witch that comes to help starlight from time to time. it was rumored that her character was going to become a main character in season three of the show, but the show was cancelled due to low ratings.<p>
winthrop became an indie queen by starring in several independent drama films but her main success came from her role as Jennifer Porter in the independent, psychological thriller,
Don't Let Go which her portrayal of the complicated character was raved about and went on to being a top pick at the 2003 Sundance Festival and went on to being released in movie theaters that winter. She went on to being the
director's star actress and starred in two of his movies that followed
Don't Let Go which was the 2005 drama, coming-of-age film,
daylight where
winthrop played a seventeen year old, southern belle named daisy lou monroe who struggles as she tries to find herself, and the 2009 dramatic film
you and i where
winthrop played the young, college student named lana starkova meets
actor here's character, janie sawyer, while the two are in moscow, russia, and fall in love throughout their adventures in moscow society.
winthrop commented about the
director at the premiere of
you and i,
"i have never met someone who is as artistic and talented like him [director]. i feel like it was fate that i randomly walked into the casting call for don't let go six years ago. i feel so blessed for being able to work with him this closely after all of these years and i am glad to call him not only one of my inspirations but one of my very dear friends."<p>
after her film in 2009,
winthrop took two years off from acting in order to purse her other love, art. she went on to savannah college of art and design's in savannah, georgia, to study art.
"i grew up not acting but painting. painting, drawing, anything i could do to let my creative juices flow! but acting is an art form to me too. instead of using a paint brush to create my art, i can use my body and my soul to paint a character on to the scene."<p>

winthrop is filming
director's dramatic thriller,
barton hollow which is about winthrop's character, ava dawson, who is haunted by her past memories in the small, mining town barton hollow. she has to face her past though when her older brother, christopher, is found murdered outside one of the old mining shacks. ava under covers the corruption and dark secrets that lie hidden within the town, and someone doesn't want her to find out what really happened to her brother. the film is set to release in Winter 2013.<p>
her other independent drama of the same director,
Straw Dogs is set for limited release in Summer 2012.
winthrop plays amy sumner who is a tv actress and is married to her screenwriter husband, david sumner. after amy's father's recent death, she returns to blackwater, mississippi, to rebuild her childhood home. danger happens though when amy's ex-boyfriend, charlie venner, wants amy back and won't stop until he gets her back. the film is said to have a violent and disturbing scene where
winthrop's character is brutally raped twice.<p>
winthrop has also recently signed on to the newest
spiderman re-boot as
gwen stacy in the new
The Amazing Spiderman.

winthrop is very close with her Olympic silver medalist gymnast sister, Mia.<p>
winthrop spends a majority of her free time surfing near her home in Santa Barbara, California, and playing with her two-year old, golden retriever, Dolly, named after
winthrop's favorite singer, Dolly Parton.<p>
winthrop has expressed that she loves listening to country music and loves to go to country saloons. she likes to just sit in the backyard, with a cold beer, and daisy dukes on on her days off.<p>
winthrop is also an animal rights and gay rights activist. She supports PETA and Green Peace organizations and has been a vegetarian since she was eighteen.<p>
winthrop has expressed that she is neither straight nor gay saying that she doesn't choose to categorize what her sexual orientation is.
winthrop stated at the a gladd event in 2011,
"if i want to be someone i look at them based off as a person. i've had successful relationships with both men and women. if you want to stereotype then i go both ways, but it's more than that. love is love and it isn't defined by any boundaries: sex, race, or age."<p>
winthrop was with her long-term, screenwriter boyfriend,
scott, for seven years, who she was introduced to by a mutual friend at an event, until the two split in December 2011.
winthrop said,
"... Scott and I are still close friends but it was for the best," about the break-up. she ignores any further questions about him in interviews, expressing that she doesn't want to talk about it.</div><P>
