Below is a list of frequently asked questions. If your question is not answered in here, either create a thread in the Help and Suggestions forum or contact a member of the staff.

Q: What is rollover and how does it work?

A: One day in the game is played out over two or three weeks in real life. Rollover on predetermined Sundays at 11:59 pm Eastern Time (USA) when we move on to the next game day. Before this happens, all current threads and storylines must be played out, as all threads will be locked and moved to the archive. The only posts that will be allowed to take place on the previous day are JPs, and they must be posted in the Backpost Thread Forum. Otherwise, just pretend it played out and include a small portion in your first post of the next day that describes how it went.

Q: Where did all the game threads disappear to?

A: Rollover has occurred and the threads have been moved to the archive. See the above question for more details.

Q: What is a JP and how do I do one?

A: JP stands for joint post. It is a post written between you and another player, usually through a chat client like AIM or YIM. JPs allow for immediate reaction to a situation and work best for most conversations between only two characters. To do a JP, you will first have to contact a player with whom you wish to do it with and see if they are up to the task.

Q: How is a character approved?

A: After a character is submitted, a poll is created within the staff-only portion of the site. This allows the staff as a whole to either approve or disapprove of the character. The only time a character will be denied is if the sample post is of insufficient quality in terms of writing skill or understanding of the character, or if it is clear from the submission that the player has not read or has chosen to ignore the rules. If this happens, you will receive sufficient warning before your profile is deleted. Generally, if a submission is acceptable aside from a few minor details, a list will be compiled of those areas that must be revised, and the player will be contacted and given opportunity to change them. There are very few characters that do not make it through the approval process.

Q: Why is my post count off?

A: Only in-character posts will add to your post count.

Q: What are the different user groups, and how do I join them?

A: The user groups describe a user's status here at the site. The user groups are as follows:
  • FLAT-SCANS - A guest to the site that does not have an account, or a member that is not logged into their account. Flat-scans can read anything not pertaining directly to the game, and are able to post in both General Discussion and Help and Suggestions.
  • MUTANTS - A member who has registered, but has not yet validated their account. Mutants can read anything not pertaining directly to the game, and are able to post in General Discussion and Help and Suggestions.
  • STUDENTS - A fully-fledged member of the site. Students are able to read the entirety of the site, as well as submit characters and participate in the game itself.
  • NEW MUTANTS - The moderating team. These are members of the site who have been selected to help with the basic operation of the site. For a list of the New Mutants, see the "Global Moderators" section of the staff list.
  • X-MEN - The administration team. These are the users that handle the bulk of the running and maintenance of the site. For a list of the X-Men, see the "Administrator" section of the staff list.
  • MORLOCKS - All users that have been banned from the site. They are allowed access only to the Rules and the Help and Suggestions portions of the site, but are unable to post. You do not want to find yourself in this group.
Q: Why is my signature not working?

A: Signatures would only serve to distract from and interfere with the RPG itself. This feature has been removed.

Q: Why am I not allowed to change my avatar?

A: Your avatar displays what characters you play. Therefore it cannot be changed, since it is necessary to let other players know who plays who.

Q: Why am I supposed to use my first name on my account?

A: For starters, using anything else can get rather confusing when dealing with an RPG, especially with those players that have multiple characters. Imagine a user named "Cyclops" who doesn't even play Cyclops. Not a pretty sight. Plus, using first names helps to build a sense of community here at the site.
